How would describe your experience here before the movie drops

If you're referring to me I never said it was 100% accurate just that it's based on UFF retains the core elements of that version.

All comic book movies make changes, even Sin City and Watchmen which are the most accurate have changes.

No, not you. My reply was to the comparisons made between the film and UFF.

As far as I can tell, this is based on the most basic things from UFF like age of characters, etc, but definitely not an adaptation of it.

In UFF, Ben and Reed grew up in NYC - in this film they appear to be in some sort of rural town.

In UFF, Reed was sent to the Baxter building at a young age - in this film he appears to go there when he is a young adult.

In Uff, Ben was a tall, muscular football player - in this film he is a skinny, short baseball player.

In Uff, Victor Van Damme was a wealthy descendant of Dracula - in this film he's Victor Domashev and he is poor and adopted by Franklin Storm.

In Uff, Johnny and Sue were brother and sister - in this film, Sue is adopted from Kosovo.

In Uff, Arthur Molekevic was a major character who became Moleman - in this film there is no Arthur Molevic and instead we get Harvey elder which was the name of a completely different 616 character who became Moleman.

In the UFF, they didn't travel to and explore the N-Zone. The device blew up when it was turned on - In this film, a primary plot point seems to be the travel to and exploration of the N-Zone

In UFF, they weren't held captive by the government and they weren't used as weapons by the government - That seems to be a major plot point of the film.

In UFF, they didn't struggle to deal with their powers and they didn't need "containment suits" - That seems to be a major element of the film.

In UFF, Van Damme grew organic armor with goat legs and breathed some sort of poison gas and other silly crap - In this film, he doesn't look even vaguely like the UFF version and his powers seem very different.

In UFF, Van Damme went to Denmark and became leader of some group of homeless people - In this film he seems to travel to (and possibly get trapped in) the N-Zone where he poses some non-specific threat the FF must fight.

In UFF, Ben looked like the Thing, with smooth, regular plates, 3 fingers and a thumb, etc. - In this film, he's a rough, lumpy rock creature that only looks superficially like the Thing.

In UFF, BEN wore PANTS - Nuff said

In UFF, The FF wore blue uniforms

. . . to name a few quick things off the top of my head that are clearly different from UFF from the little bit we've seen and heard so far. I'm sure there's much more drastic departures in the actual film that we just don't know much about yet.

Yeah but Trank said it was based off it it! You just don't like it isn't based on 616! :o

In UFF, Sue didn't have hyper-intelligence.

Yeah it's not a carbon copy. Like all CBMs

The plot is essentially the same

Ultimate Fantastic Four said:
Reed Richards is a child prodigy, protected by his burly friend Ben Grimm from bullies, and a genius who had invented a method of teleportation in his youth. He is discovered by government official Willie Lumpkin, and subsequently recruited into a child prodigy think tank/school located in the upper floors of the Baxter building. There he meets Professor Storm, who leads the project, and his children, bioengineer Susan Storm and her younger brother Johnny. Reed also becomes the rival of Victor Van Damme, a fellow student. When Reed becomes 21, he plans to teleport an apple into a parallel universe (the "N-Zone"), but Van Damme claims Reed's calculations are wrong and changes the setup at the last minute. The five students get teleported through the N-Zone, and when they rematerialize, they return heavily mutated. After the Fantastic Four return to the Baxter building, they must soon face their first opponent, Mole Man

In the Ultimate Marvel Universe, Mole Man was a Baxter Building scientist named Dr. Arthur Molekevic. Nicknamed Mole Man by the students,.

Aside from Dooms name, Mole Mans name and Franklin recruiting Reed instead of Willie it's the same story.

Wasn't this thread about your experiences here in the forum during the movie's development?

I didn't really expect yet another rehash of the similarities and differences between this movie and the 2 comic book versions.

I think this sums up my experience here. While entertaining and always drawing me back for the hopes there'll be new information -- every thread has devolved into the same rehashing of what's wrong and what's right with the production.

And to top it all off... those people who truly care about the original comics are the ones who see everything as negative, and those with only a passing interest in the Fantastic Four are completely positive -- with no real give and take.

I think it's time people really got over it. The movie will be out in a couple days, and then we'll know for sure.

For the record -- I lean towards this being a potentially good movie, but a truly unfaithful Fantastic Four movie.

The plot is essentially the same

Really? I didn't know that. I never read either comics so it doesn't matter to me if the film is based on those comics or not. I am just expecting an entertaining film.

And I totally understand 616 fans wanting for an adaptation of it. It is only natural. I love the feeling when a movie follows exactly what I remember reading in the comics.

Pretty much.

Repeating a lie doe not make it truth. The fact is this film is as far from UF4 as it is from 616, they're only trying to claim it's based on UF4 because of the tremendous backlash being unfaithful to any of the source material has caused.

Trank himself straight up told Mara during filming this wouldn't be based anything that has been published.

If people are truly going to nitpick UFF and Trank's FF that closely, then we can just agree that not a single comic book movie ever has been completely faithful, that goes to Marvel Studios as well.

Hey man I got Fantastic Four by Kirby and Byrne on my collection alongside other stories featuring the FF! ;(

I Mean this is another thing about this board. We're talking about the people here, not the movie, but soon! FRIDAY is only 3 days away from us and we can finally discuss the movie.

Must I redirect you to the list of major differences that was JUST posted on the previous page? Just because he said it was doesn't make it true. Shocking, I know.

He'd just ignore it, deny it or change the subject.

No offense but from my few times visting these boards I have to say these this has been one of the worse boards on the hype for some time. The sheer number of people that got infractions, temporary bans , and permanent bans is staggering. Some of the post from "fans" almost turned me away from Fantastic Four for good. But there have been some reasonable fans who were not like that. Anyway, I am interested to see how this turns out!

My first experience with the Hype was through this board but I've been on a lot of boards and the Hype is by far the most civil place to discuss this movie. The hate for this film is EVERYWHERE. You can't even believe the depths to which debates about this film have sunk on other sites. I've stopped visiting them because they've become so raunchy and disgusting and people say the most awful things about other people. I think the mods here have a really tough job in this instance and they try really hard to make sure people have a good time on this site and are respectful to one another. It's not the Hype. It's this film. It's THAT divisive.

My $.02 anyway.

Not really. The bulk of the first and third acts of this movie seem to involve traveling to Planet Zero. The origin in UFF didn't involve any traveling to Planet Zero. They never actually traveled anywhere, they just tried to teleport something to the N-Zone. Also, the Domashev stuff is all new. In UFF, they first fought the Mole Man who had kidnapped Sue, a damsel in distress.

So Doom was the second villain they fought, and he was different from Domashev. He never got stuck in the N-Zone. He ran a little shanty town in Europe and sent a bunch of robot insects to fight the Four in the Baxter Building. None of which will be included here.

[BLACKOUT]Instead, it seems they'll rescue him from Planet Zero, he'll become obsessed with it, and try to turn Earth into Planet Zero (or something). New stuff.[/BLACKOUT]

This movie might be inspired by the UFF, but it's Trank's story.

If people here have read spoilers and are posting spoilers and not assumptions, put them in a spoiler tag people!

This has been one of the most entertaining forums. Fox rushing this into production, josh trank making a found footage F4, mbj casting controversy, the news blackout and speculation, all the josh trank rumors, blogger doom, miles tellers punchable face, reshoots, cover ups, kate maras wig, naked ben, the hardcore fox fans, the haters, heated arguments and debates. Its been a great ride and i will sorely miss it.

Agreed, 100%.

I've lurked this site for many years, posting a comment here & there. I can't remember a movie stirring up so much controversy. I'm fully expecting this version of the FF4 to infiltrate highly active threads/dicsussions all over this site, much like Nolan & TDK seem to do....

Hehe this has been the most active I have ever been on a forum, I've gone 5 years without hitting double digits. Its been finding a topic that I'm really able to chat about :)
