Black Widow News and Speculation Thread

Nice to know SOMEBODY cared about that.

Honestly as a woman, I just wanted to be able to see the damn movie, period.

And it got a wide theatre release, so most people who cared that much about seeing it on the big screen had the opportunity.

Personally, the movie itself wasn't so great to warrant prestige treatment.

I Liked Black Widow.
But , in the end, it felt like like it was being done out of a sense of obligation more than anything else.

There was a huge opportunity for Marvel to get their Logan with this movie. But it ended up being the most disappointing MCU movie by far for me with how poor the third act was, and how they made Natasha one of the least interesting characters in her one and only movie.

It took 10 years and numerous delays to give us a C+ level movie.

This film could never have been a Logan for Natasha because she died in Endgame.

I meant similar to Logan in terms of mood, pacing and themes. You can expose the ugly side of a lonely character and give them a touching sendoff without needing to show their death.

And, what would the story for that movie have been?

I’d lean more heavily into the child-trafficking angle, for one. Like show that the Red Room is preying on Sokovian children now living in refugee camps.

I’d also lean harder into Yelena’s resentment of Natasha for never reconnecting after defecting to SHIELD, and casting doubt on whether Natasha deserves the hero moniker after all she’s done. The Red Room should have been made into a much more menacing place. And I would actually do something with the reveal of taskmaster’s true identity.

I don’t read comics so I’d be fine leaving the character as Dreykov’s daughter. However, I’d lengthen the fight scenes pre-reveal, and do the reveal sooner in the film so we actually get more development.
Have the character still be vengeful towards Natasha, who incapacitates her but allows her to escape to a new life with the other widows and children.
Natasha stays behind to allow Ross’ men to arrest her, effectively trading her freedom in exchange for the Russians avoiding unwanted attention from authorities.

How Disney and Scarlett Johansson Reached the Point of No Return

Since the lawsuit, brothers Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, directors of Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame,” the highest-grossing movie of all time, hit an impasse in negotiations to direct another Marvel movie. The Johansson dispute left them unsure how their next movie would be distributed and how they would be paid, according to people familiar with the matter. The Russos declined to comment.

The deal, as pitched, would pay Ms. Johansson a total of $100 million for the movie, including her $20 million salary. It was an eye-popping sum, but her team saw it as a starting point.

80 million as a starting point??! The more stuff come out of this, the worse each party is beginning to look like.

Do we even have context about how other A-listers normally negotiate blockbuster salaries?
not really, just what sometimes comes out after a film, but even then it's never 100% accurate

but if i had to guess, for something like this i assume scarjo's agents would be aware of what her co-stars have made on their solo films, as well as similar big tentpole franchises, bond, MI, f&f, etc

the big thing for disney & bob is that she was already big before avengers, they can't really argue that it "made" her, she's a hollywood vet that can ask for a higher fee/backend. digital release absolutely takes money out of her pocket. one could even argue she is the #1 female blockbuster movie name. her team is smart comparing her to WW84/hbo max situation as well.

I bought the DVD this afternoon.....my wife, daughter, and I just finished watching it. My daughter and I had seen it in the theater and loved it. My wife now loves it too. The standard DVD is bare bones.

Not even any special features? I picked up the 4K edition yesterday and it came with some really good special features.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think nowadays the DVD versions of films are just the films. I think to get some of the special features, they want customers to get at least the Blu-Ray.
