    The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

Same, for me. I'm only 29 but at first I thought "maybe it's just my age and my friends' age". But I've got friends from Gen Z through Boomer, and they all are the same way. Especially my Gen Z friends don't get hyped for anything coming out. Barbenheimer was a pretty big exception and that was...

    The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

I will also add that the seedlings for what became modern film discourse online started around the time The Dark Knight Rises dropped, too. The over-analytical, nit-picky, YouTuber-dominated angry nerd type methods of discussing things really hit hard that year. "pLoT HoLEs!!!!" The Dark...

    The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

Dang, man. This is so, so relatable - and it's a bit cathartic to read someone else say it! The rise of rage-bait and franchise weaponizing (as you put it) has really made all of online film discourse (and gaming, too) nearly insufferable and I can detach from that toxicity with some things...

    The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

I was active, but I think a key difference here is that those that were on the Burton side of that debate back then were pretty against anything new being able to top Burton's films - and were not in favor of the films even being made, at all. Whereas I don't recall ever seeing Nolan fans being...

    The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

I'd be way more interested in a comic series that bridges the gap between Knight and Rises. I think that gap is ripe with amazing story potential. A series that shows Batman and Gordon doing what they can to take on crime while Batman dodges police sight for a couple years after. And the last...

    The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

Okay, I am so glad for this post (and the others quoted below) because I've wanted to say it for so long - but was afraid of the backlash from The Batman fans and maybe some Mods for bringing the topic up. And keep in mind - I'm a fan of The Batman! I'm 100% embracing the new. I just got my...

    The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

It irks me that the takeaway narrative that I keep reading is "See! We could've had Riddler and the film would've sucked less!!!!!$@$!@$!" Still annoys me to no end that this film is dragged like it's The Phantom Menace and called 'panned'.

Twister Reboot ‘Twisters’ | Universal Pictures

130 min? A film like this should be a brisk 110 min, tops.

    Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice returns!

Maybe I'm crazy - but I wouldn't be surprised if the choir children are singing a different song. Their mouths...look weird in the trailer. Look CGI'd to by in sync with "Day-O".

I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I would fully approve of Boyd Holbrook as Dent. Absolutely loved him in Logan and Indiana Jones. He plays such a good villain, and he has that dark, seditious side to him that would serve Dent very well. The role has a lot of meat on the bone for a great actor to enjoy. I think he could...

    Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

I mean. Great films can come from IPs. Dune itself is a pretty established sci-fi IP in literature and with multiple adaptations - not like it's some 'fresh' thing, itself.

    Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Sorry, while I understand your feelings - Afterlife, to me, differs a heck of a lot more because it felt sincere, genuine, and heartfelt in its creation. I think that the Reitmans' love and genuine care at the helm really elevated what would otherwise be rather hollow nostalgia-bait.

    Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Really? Because all I hear is that legacy sequels are 'disrespecting' the originals and ruining them.

    Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

I've said before - but maybe not here. I thought the approach to Afterlife was brilliant. I've heard people complain that the film takes the originals too seriously or mythologizes them - and I agree - but I think that it was smart to do so. What Afterlife did is a fascinating and bold - it met...
