Cable Cord Cutters Thread: Sling, Hulu, YouTube TV, Netflix, and more!

Oh forgot to mention you get live television and Hulu's huge on demand library with Hulu Live. Also I hear there's a deal with Disney+.

Yeah, I don't know if you want a ton of live channels @kvz5 , but if not, Sling and Philo are actually really good skinny bundle services if you want to save more money. And if you live near a major city, you may have Locast available to you for the broadcast networks, which is awesome, and much more reliable than my indoor antenna. Philo + Locast would be my ideal combination if I weren't getting free YTTV from my dad. But if you don't have access to Locast, then Sling is better, just because it includes a couple locals in the package (which change depending on where you are). I would check out the channels that those services offer before taking the plunge into one of the bigger services. They could very well have all the channels you care about (unlike Hulu Live, Philo's got AMC and BBC America, as well as the Viacom networks), and you get free DVR w/ Philo as well (it's a $5 upgrade with Sling).

YTTV and Hulu Live are for people who basically want to replicate their cable.

I would have to research this hard. :hehe: It can get... overwhelming.
I spent weeks researching this stuff, but I actually really enjoyed it. The prospect of freedom from the demons at Cox Communications was...exhilarating. :funny: I did sooooo many free trials those first months.

I tried them all and almost did your Philo + Locast bundle, but I missed TBS and Adult Swim. Plus I wanted to watch the Dem Debates so I kinda wanted cable news again, so went with Sling.

Also want to try Vidgo, but I'm not sure it's worth it cause I heard it's still buggy.

Yeah, Sling's what I had when was paying for my own. It's a pretty well-rounded skinny service. I chose it over Philo mainly because of the broadcast networks, but that was before I discovered Locast.

Vidgo seemed promising, but it's yet another one that doesn't have my AMC/BBC America. What the hell are those channels charging for so many services not to have them?!

AMC pulled their services from some streaming sevices to push AMC Premiere like CBS does with CBS All Access.

If there's one thing we can agree with it's that AT&T TV Now is the worst.

Oh and USA cause of Modern Family. :funny:

They did? Never noticed that, but yeah. I think Preacher is on Hulu and a few shows on Netflix. But in terms of next day airing I don't think that's anywhere. I have to DVR through YouTube TV to watch BCS.

Rookie mistake

I started noticing they were putting certain content like The Walking Dead behind a pay wall for on demand services. I know Sling used to have most of the series before.

Speaking of Sling, they're promising an entire year of fixed pricing of their service for new customers in response to YTTV's price hike.

Okay so @kvz5. Do you NEED live television or you cool with strictly on demand? I did the math and with the Hulu/Disney+ bundle, you could have those including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max for about $49.99 before tax.

For those who want HBO Max on Roku or Fire TV, if you subscribe through Hulu, it will add HBO content through the Hulu app or you can use screen mirroring from your phone.

Thanks @Spider-Fan

So @flickchick85 corrected this by saying it only displays HBO content, not the Max library.

So according to their reddit, HBO Max not getting a Fire TV or Roku app may be because Amazon and Roku want a bigger piece of the pie since it looks like Peacock is launching without apps for those platforms as well.

Sling may be getting Nickelodeon, CBS, Pop, and more later this year.

Prepare for that price hike! (Unless you got locked in on that one-year price lock, but you can bet it’s going up as soon as that year ends)

It would be cool if they made the Viacom channels one of their add-on packages that people could choose to pay extra for, but I doubt that’s happening.

They could go back to their old pricing where Blue was the more expensive one. But then Blue will be the more appealing of the two with ViacomCBS, Fox, and NBCUniversal making Orange undesirable unless you like Disney/ESPN.

Also the chances of them adding CBS or ABC will be rare since it's broadcasting stations that are assisting in these prices being boosted. They used to have them as an add on at one point.

Now IF Sling gets too high for me, I'll switch to on demand only. The 5 major streaming services put together only cost $50, so I may do that. Philo and Locast are there if I want live TV later on.

Oh and if you're an Apple TV+ person you can swap out Amazon Prime Video for it. The only content I'm interested in on there is The Morning Show, Central Park, and See so it wasn't a must have service.

This may help people with pricing to make their personal TV bundle:

I can't imagine trading off Amazon Prime for Apple TV+. As someone who has both (a year of Apple free thanks to the iPad I bought a couple months ago), Amazon has SOOOO much more content.

Also, FYI, to anyone interested in NBC/Universal's new streaming service Peacock, they're currently offering a pre-order annual plan discount of $30 for the first year of their premium plan if you sign up before launch day (Wednesday).
