Birds of Prey Birds of Prey General Discussion and Speculation

I’m watching it tonight, I’ve still only seen it the once. I liked it but didn’t love it when it come out so interested to see if it improves for me or not on rewatch.

I did watch the extras already though, best part was when they talked about the set design. They had so much fun building that fun house set.

No offense to Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but Jurnee deserved to be nominated in Best Supporting Actress category. Hope Margot wins but there's some tough competition, hopefully BoP will win at least in some category.

I’m still shocked BOP flopped so hard. Horrible, just horrible trailers, very very bad costumes, but the movie itself was very good.

Honestly Cathy Yan was this movie’s downfall. Her aesthetic choices were very hit or miss.

I thought the script was excellent. I’m excited to see Hodson’s work on Flash.

Re-watched it the other night, eh it didn't quite stand up to re-watch for me. Still entertaining in parts, and Canary is still awesome. I enjoyed Huntress more this time though.
I honestly agree. First time I saw it, I absolutely LOVED it. Second time, I fell asleep.

Have to agree, considering she was the Newbie of the cast, she was really impressive.

Congratulations to Cathy Yan and Ewan McGregor, well deserved wins. Also, to Marggot Robbie and Ben Affleck as they were runner-ups.

Cathy Yan and the costumes weren’t the downfall. It was the marketing and maybe one more pass on the script. The only iffy costumes were the final ones for Black Canary and Huntress.

It was a great film though and I would love to see a semi sequel to it, but just make it Harley and Ivy. I think trying to get all the birds of prey into one film and to introduce them all was a risky situation. It would have worked better as a Gotham City Sirens film, where people already know the characters and have Holly replace Cassandra (because she wasn’t as screen accurate).

I tried to watch this film and it was beyond horrific. I think I made it about 45 min in to the film before I just flat out turned it off. I mean the first issue is that none of the characters are even remotely like the comic book characters save for Harley. What they did with Cassandra Cain is a crime all in to it self. I can't even understand how the film was up for any awards.

The only utterly saving grace that kept me watching it for 45 min was Margot Robbie. I think she is a fantastic Harley Quinn. The fact that she is so good at playing Harley makes the film that much worse. Margot Robbie didn't need a supporting class in that way. It could have easily just been about her and not some team up movie. Once again WB shows they have no faith in their characters.

Sorry I hate the film. It was terrible and I don't understand how so many comic book fans like it. I mean each to there own.

I don't get it. The script was beyond terrible. Maybe if it wasn't just a team up of a bunch of other female characters from Batman and just about Harley I would agree. They took all these characters and basically turned them in to a joke. Especially Cassandra Cain. She one my favorite characters in Batman family. They turned her in to an utter joke.

I just don't get how any one like that film. Especially any comic book reader. It just was so utterly terrible.

I'm an avid comics reader, and I loved it. Though I don't have any attachment to Cassandra Cain, so maybe that helps. My only issue was that they called it Birds of Prey in the first place. It was a Harley Quinn movie, with guest appearances from members of the BoP. There's no proper BoP without Barbara Gordon, imo. An actual BoP movie should've been spun off of this. But I really enjoyed how the most of the lead characters were written (Huntress was my personal fave, but Canary was great too), thought Ewan was great as Black Mask, and I loved Cathy Yan's style.

So like you said, to each their own.

Like you said, horrible trailers and bad costumes. Aside from that though? This was coming off of Suicide Squad which nobody really enjoyed and felt like that same world. I can see why the general audience didn't go out of their way to see it. Hell, I almost would have skipped it if it weren't for the reviews and the fact that my friend wanted to see it. Margot is great, I love her, but she's not a draw either.

I wonder how the Snyder Cut going forward just how it will affect the DCEU continuity when it comes to this particular film in general if it even does at all?

Especially now that the Multiverse might be introduced and then Keaton possibly coming back...I wonder how BOP will factor in as far as HBO Max and the future goes?

Have really grown to appreciate MEW as Huntress more on re-watch.

And I know this is a girl power movie and all that which I am fine with, but for me McGregor steals the show.

Yeah, that's a no from me. Whilst the film had some good scenes, the film as a whole was the least enjoyable DC instalment for me to date.

Same. And I like Cassandra Cain. While I would love to see the real Cass on screen and think they should have just given her a different name, I liked her character so I didn’t mind. I always just think of these films as almost like an ‘Elseworlds” type story.

Misha Green should make Green Arrow & Black Canary series on HBO Max. :o

I have no connection with the comics so I enjoyed it for what it was. You could tell Margot really enjoyed this character which made her fun to watch. The first half was a little convoluted with the time jumps but once the diamond was stolen and the story got streamlined it was much better. Also thought the action here, and her fighting style, was much better than Suicide Squad.
