MCU vs thread....controversy and chaos

Okay, fine. There are at least 2 other people who liked TDW, maybe 3.

In all honesty I cannot understand the hate that movie gets. I remember watching it in the cinema and thinking:
- pretty good fight scenes ( especially, " holy crap, Kurse nearly killed Thor !")
- Hiddleston steals every scene, and Loki gets a good story arc,
- Hopkins and Russo do a lot with a little
-the Dark Elves whole look was cool and creepy
,including their tech and ships.
-Good pacing
- I liked the sorcery/science tech of the Asgardians.
- Hemsworth was more likeable than he was in Thor
- The Warrirors three get something useful to do.

On the negative I thought :

- Kat Dennings and the comedy sidekicks were a bit much

-Eccleston was disappointing as Malekith, and the use of Dark Elvish language diminished the impact of his lines ( sometimes it works, like in LOTR, sometimes it doesn't)

- the final confrontation was a mixed bag, there were bits of silliness mixed in with Eccleston's deadpan performance which didn't fit well together. If they were going to play it tongue in cheek, they should have stuck with that.

All in all not a bad film IMO. Where are all the Thor fans to back me up on this one ? Come on @Mjolnir Reborn , arise and summon the Asgardian horde ( all 2 of them).

Aye, I'm one of those that likes TDW, although part of my liking was things it brought that wasn't quite in the first Thor and since Rangarok did most of those things as well, only better, TDW has fallen a bit in the comparisons. I agree with most of what you say, but I didn't have an issue with Eccleston as Malekith (what was left to be desired for me was more due to the script, or what was cut) and I did enjoy the Dark Elf language.

I think they have stuck with the original planned ending for the final confrontation where Thor summons lightning from all the Nine Realms through the portals to defeat Malekith. I don't think there was anything gained from having the humans more involved, but we did lose a cool scene and display of power from Thor.

As for Malekith vs Vision it's hard because Malekith using the Aether is such an unknown factor. As far as I remember he never seems to take any damage apart from when he has limbs teleported away and when the huge ship crashes on him, so he seems to take a beating well, but he doesn't do all that much offensively. When he starts channeling the Aether through the portals and grows in size he seems to stop caring about fighting Thor. It kind of feels like they hadn't quite decided that the Aether was the Reality Stone when they made the film, or that they hadn't decided on quite how the stone was used the way they had when Infinity War came around.

The impact of Malekith's attack are harder than anything we've seen Vision do without Mjolnir, but Vision compensates for burning through things with ease with his Mind Stone beam. If those Aether bolts are all that Malekith can do I don't see him beating Vision, so then it comes down to whether Vision can harm Malekith. In any case Vision has shown more in terms of direct combat.

This is a battle that, if it took place in the MCU, would include several things we've never seen before.

Haha.

I enjoy the film too, but I have very high standards for what I want to see from a Thor film as opposed to something like James Bond where I would more easily let things go. I feel personally invested in that every 10% improvement in the film plays a big part in how this film is perceived around the world and that affects the demand for the future of Thor. I have the same negatives as your list but on my first watch they mattered much more than they would with a different film. Now I enjoy it for what it is but still wish they’d nailed it that much more.

Ragnarok with a few comedy lines deleted is them nailing what they were trying to do in that film though and I’m really glad Thor isn’t finished with the trilogy. High hopes for the next one!

I didn’t know about that other planned ending. It sounds amazing. :csad: I didn’t really want the band of humans involved except maybe Portman.

Yes, I was really disappointed when I heard about that. I've forgotten exactly where I heard it but it came out after the film was released. Not only would it have been an awesome display of power for Thor, it's also really the most creative use of the situation with the Convergence, using it against Malekith.

I wonder why it was taken out? Too expensive maybe? Thor’s running lightning slam in IW is still one of my favourite moves in the whole of MCU history. This sounds like it could have been another if they had done it and done it right.

It was changed just because they wanted the humans more involved. I don't know who it was that wanted it since they didn't say. One can suspect Perlmutter's creative committee, just given the other bad ideas they have had, but it's just a guess.

Tricky ! If we consider being able to kill Eddie a win for Loki, then I think Loki could take this.

But I don't think Loki could destroy the symbiote - Thor maybe, with lightning, but the symbiote can pretty reform after physical attacks.

I'll say Loki 6/10 - but I'm willing to be swayed on this one.

I'd go with Loki as well.

Loki is strong enough to just manhandle Cap so if Venom is stronger it's not by much, and Loki has his magic, probably some Asgardian weapon, and he is much more intelligent. Venom is definitely dangerous but I have to go with the odds.

I don't know.............Venom has shown that he is pretty strong in his movie and I dare say stronger than his comic counter part. I'd vote Loki because he has gone toe to toe with Thor and even when the Hulk pulverized him, he didn't have a mark on him and was ok minutes later. He and Thor are obviously very resilient.

Honestly this is how I would vote it as well. Venom has shown he absolutely can do damage in his solo movie. It's just Loki..............I'm sure he can fight and is super tough with magic and all but when has he ACTUALLY defeated someone? He's mostly into games and tricking people. I honestly can't think of one time he has beaten a single hero, though he was handling Cap and the SHIELD agents. But he seems to play chess and likes to play the long game so I'm not sure what he can actually do.

Agreed with this. I’ll go Loki 6/10 as well. I’d quite like to watch the times when Venom wins though haha. He’d be brutal. The film version really seemed strong.

SPIDER-MAN can win since this is Aldrich on his own, and he's been pretty careful in Infinity War.

Loki wins in a surprisingly landslide. You guys are tough! :argh: Next up:

Aldrich Killian

Tricky. Killians strength, regeneration and heat powers make him really dangerous.

He could tear through Iron Man suits - but was pretty easily dispatched by Pepper, who arguably has no fighting experience or skills.

If Killian gets a hand on Spidey he can fry him. However Killian isn't a very skilled fighter either and Spidey is incredibly quick.

I feel like Spidey could keep this one going until Killian self destructed, because the extremis powers are very unstable.

I'll say Spidey, only just. 6/10.
