The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I mean, he should have just been Superman 10-15 years ago. No, I don’t care about his height.

If Tom Cruise is Lex, he should totally play it straight, with this evil undertone.. a narcissist.. I don't want super suits, or tech... I just want his brain being his weapon v Superman.. setting clark up to fail, with mind games and double jeopardy. Getting other nations to fear Superman, getting the people to be afraid.. setting him up to fail.. Tom would nail this.

However... I don't care what people say, Billy Zane is my Lex Luthor, all day every day.. he would own it so well and be cheap.

For superman, it's tough... I kinda wanna go a totally different route, look wise... I want this big, buff farm dude... so when he is Clark, he really has to reel it in, put on an act... Superman for all seasons style. I know it's not the easiest to translate on screen, but like a young Patrick Warburton - here he is at 37 - prime Superman age.MV5BMTA5OTIyMzU3MDVeQTJeQWpwZ15BbWU2MDczNDI5Ng@@._V1_.jpg

So he would need to wear baggy clothes, keep a low profile... blend into the back ground.. Then his Superman, for me, his Superman needs to be proud, almost cheesy.. like too nice... think of Chris Reeve superman turning up at his son's birthday party, knowing if the kids weren't happy he loses custody lol, that kinda nice....

Lois works out pretty quick, but plays along for his sake... it's almost like it's an unwritten rule... that she dates Kal El, not clark in the office.. like, the acting has to be great, but there is something in Lois's eye at times, that lets Clark the office version know she isn't dumb, but is helping him, less is more.

I would have the classic suit.. bright.. colourful.. just make this character larger than life and he doesn't care at all... he just rises above anything and is just so cool and respected... like, he is down town and in an area say like the hood or whatever but he treats people so well and relates, that like, even a petty thug he stops, can't help but respect him..

Jeremy Strong would be an incredible Lex Luthor, imo

I'd want to see Clark Kent be much more along the lines of the George Reeves, Dean Cain, and Tyler Hoechlin's versions.

More of a normal low key guy who, at the most, can maybe be a bit nerdy as opposed to stumbling around like a fool.

I'd picture Clark Kent to be the guy who would socialize and go to a baseball game with Perry and Jimmy and would be the type to fanboy out if he met his favorite Basketball , Football or Baseball player.

The Superman side I see as being like Reeve's. A guy with charm , personality, yet that sense of authority. Someone who's happy, and actually likes helping people, and doesn't see it as a burden.
He's sees it as the right thing to do with no qualms or questions.

As for Lex, I want to see the charismatic, dynamic, 30 to 40 something CEO Lex. Not a spastic nut, not an old man, not a clown.

I want to see a Lex who could truly snow the public with his charm and charisma, but really be a menacing and threatening opponent to whoever presents an obstacle , including Superman.

You know who would be an awesome Lex Luthor? B.D. Wong.

No Cavill at the Fandome... that's weird...

I had just mentioned in another thread I'm hoping they're keeping his appearance a secret because he's a surprised guest at a panel like Shazam 2.

It does seem odd that Cavill, a fairly enthusiastic, geek of an actor, would not be willing to appear, like I am sure he would make it work.... regardless of schedules and further more, DC not promoting superman?

I feel they have something lined up, either to surprise us with at the Fandome, like you said... or they are laying the character low to reboot...

Alex Roe is another actor I could potentially see as Superman.

I keep coming back to David Giuntoli, he has a warmth to him which I think would work well for Clark Kent and also Superman.

David Giuntoli made it to two rounds of auditions for MOS and joked he was too short at 5'10.

And he's 40 now. He wouldn't make his debut 'til 43 at the earliest, if the movie were announced tomorrow. Even if you start with an established Supes, that's pushing it, imo.

I think right now, they need to do something special and big with superman, I mean I can't believe a company do not know what to do with Superman... I mean, he is the most iconic super hero there is... all he has had is one reboot and two bit parts... I mean, screw Snyder telling us he is this big legend, show us....

Superman really needs to be a family friendly movie that we can all watch and be awed by - so that kids go home and grab a towel... run around the dining room table - so the dad's think back to their youth and feel inspired and the mums see the goodness of their husband/father in the character and relate... we don't need foul language, we don't need anything over sexy/erotic.. we just need a good, pure, fun movie...

Either use Cavil and try it... if it works, give us more.. if it fails... least you tried but man it's embarrassing Ant Man has appeared more than Superman.

I have nothing against Cavill as a person, I just don't believe he is a good actor, and has zero charisma or energy on the big screen. He is at best a tv actor, and would be good on tv on either side of the Atlantic. I could even get behind him as Superman on a tv show, network or HBO whatever.

He should be given credit for his knowledge and love of the character, and his bulking up for the role. He is certainly not the worst actor to play the character(that for me is Welling, who is only a good enough actor to be in commercials or a small role on a US soap opera).

For me, Cavill inhibits the character, he does not inhabit the character.

Giving him another chance is too risky, as since Superman IV, we have truly only had 2 true Superman movies, and two with him as a side piece. There earliest a new movie could come out would probably be 2023, and if it fails, that would be a decade of Superman failure, lost decade of failure. A fourth failure would almost certainly doom the character for a decade again, a lost decade.

That is why I think a new production team, with a new youngish Superman, who is a better actor is the way to go, I am tired of lost decades with this character.

I must say I want practical effects as much as possible... I don't care if the real cape doesn't have this majestic flow... if a real person is there and that's how the cape acts... so be it, it's realism.. there were so many scenes in BvS and JL where I thought to myself, why couldn't they have just wired him up or stand on a ledge or a large box... I hate cgi as a lazy alternative.

The problem with some practical effects is that you run the risk of them looking even more hokey than well done cgi.

Chris McQuarrie would hang a man from cables outside an airplane for the flying scenes and we'd thank him for it. :oldrazz:
