A Fractured Mind # 1 - 4 (Red 5 mini-series, 2017)
This is a tale of a girl who is the sole survivor/escaper of a serial killer. It starts out as a police procedural, heads towards the supernatural, before rounding out as a psychological thriller. The ending has drawn some controversy;
the central character commits suicide in order to escape her demons. We then get a final view of her in the afterlife, showing that it was the right thing for her to do, and that she's happier.
I don't agree with the comments of some of those who have condemned it. I really don't think the writer intended to convey the message that
suicide is good.
But the series does feel a bit rushed, and another couple of issues would have allowed him to flesh a few things out, expand the ending slightly, and perhaps pre-emptively answer at least some of the criticisms that have been levelled. Overall though, I enjoyed it.

Essential Wolverine 1

It includes the first 23 issues of the original regular series. Nine of the first ten are written by Chris Claremont with issue 10 featuring a now famous Wolverine vs Sabretooth battle. It might have been one of the first stories to hint at how old Wolverine truly is as it includes a flashback to frontier life with Silver Fox.

Issues 11-16 are 6 part story written by Peter David about The Gehenna stone and 17-23 is a 7 part story written by Archie Goodwin. These last two storylines go on too long and are unremarkable.

All the stories take place back when Wolverine went by the name "Patch" and operated out of Mandripoor.

Vampblade # 1 - 12 (Action Lab limited series, 2015/2016)

Zombie Tramp vs Vampblade # 1 - 3 (Action Lab crossover mini-series, 2015)

Vampblade '98 (Action Lab one-shot, 2017)

Vampblade: Season 2 # 1 - 12 (Action Lab limited series, 2017)

Vampblade: Season 3 # 1 - 12 (Action Lab limited series, 2018)

Vampblade is a modern-day parody of the 'bad girl' comics of the 90s (most obviously, Vampirella and Witchblade). The first season, the Zombie Tramp vs Vampblade mini-series (Zombie Tramp - 'the street-walking dead' :funny:), and (especially) the Vampblade '98 one-shot are fantastic. After that it runs out of steam a little, as though creator/writer Jason Martin was just making it up as he went along (he probably had no idea it would catch on and run for as long as it has - Season 4 is still ongoing). It's still entertaining though, with some very funny moments.

Essential Spider-Man Vol 1.

It includes Amazing Fantasy 15, the first 20 issues of the series plus the first annual. It's pretty amazing-pun intended---with what Lee and Ditko did in these earlier issues. They had the character down right from his first appearance and introduced most of his rogues gallery in the first year of his existence. You get the first appearances of Doc Ock, Vulture, Lizard, Sandman, Electro, Mysterio, Green Goblin, Kraven and Scorpio. You get the first appearance of the Sinister Six too.

The tone is set right from the beginning with plenty of Peter Parker, Aunt May and his supporting cast at school. You're reminded that his first crush is actually Betty and not Gwen and the basic dilemma of a young man balancing everyday life with the responsibility of superpowers. The heart of Spider-Man is all there.

Haunted City # 0 - 2 (Aspen MLT, 2011/2012)

Black and white reprints of Amazing Spider-Man 21-43 and the annuals.

Some key moments include Peter graduating high school and going to college where he meets Harry and Gwen for the first time. The introduction of Mary-Jane and Green Goblin's identity revealed.

Ditko gives way to John Romita in issue 39.
