New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

"We had early drafts that were supposed to be in the same timeline as Apocalypse, so it was originally going to be set in the ’80s. Originally, Professor X and Storm were in it, and Storm very much played the Alice Braga role. Over the course of months, a new studio head came in, they said they didn’t want any X-Men movies to take place in the past anymore, as if that was the reason that Apocalypse was bad."
Storm’s Original Role In New Mutants Revealed

So Storm was meant to be their main 'teacher' originally. I can see that.

So do Dani and Rahne have a lesbian relationship in this film?

has this become a Twitter update basically?

This movie could possibly come out in less than twenty days. I'm assuming, a limited theaterical release in the U.S and a wide release in countries like South Korea, Russia, Iceland, Thailand, New Zealand and other countries with low cases of COVID-19. Fingers croXed, it doesn't get delayed again.

I think Disney is just finally eager to release this thing. They can't banish it (demote it) to a straight to streaming service release, and new movies are actually still opening in America in the middle of the pandemic. While other countries like South Korea are already releasing new movies in theaters.

I'm just happy even if I won't see this thing in a theater, that we would finally know if the movie is bad or not later this month.

lol at the replies to the tweet saying, “but theaters aren’t open!” like they aren’t cinemas outside of the US that are open now. Many of the world‘s big markets like China. Japan, the UK, and Korea already have cinemas opened so New Mutants can indeed be released in theaters on August 28th internationally.

However, its virtually impossible for this movie to be released in the States by that time. They will have to delay the movie or make it a available through drive-in theaters because theaters aren’t likely to open this year(at least until near the end of the year).

If not for the deal Fox made with Time Warner before they were bought, they definitely would’ve dumped New Mutants on Disney Plus, or Hulu.

There are theaters open in America, it might be a handful but there are. There are also drive in cinemas like you said.

Domestic Box Office For Aug 10, 2020 - Box Office Mojo

Box office mojo is continuing to do daily tallies. However big studios don't seem to give them updated numbers and movies from other big studios have been outdated since March.

This film may have been delayed.....AGAIN

International New Mutants Promos Remove the August 28th Date - MCU Cosmic

I cant. She's too young. If it was set in the 80s, she'd have only been a few years older than them. I think going with someone older makes moer sense

Fox often failed with characters'ages
Im fed up with new cast! they are too young to play their characters

They was too young to play x-men in 90's (Dark Phoenix, especially Cyclops!), their cameos in Deadpool 2 present day was ridiculous, they should bring back old cast rather

Stop with this new cast, even if we dont know when sets New mutants, Im happy McAvoy and cie arent back

I'm just gonna wait VOD.
I don't think it'll come to Disney+ anytime soon though. Isn't there some rights issue where it goes to HBO Max first?

I really can’t wait to see what the numbers will be with this. Morbidly curious.
I mean... the number will be bad. It's not gonna be a surprise

Theaters not at full capacity, some places theaters aren't even open, there's a huge amount of apathy going the movie isn't marketed that well because they know it won't make much...there's no way this, or any movie released this year, will be any sort of theatrical success

All in all, this movie just isn't gonna worth the trouble and whining that has been surrounding this movie. It's gonna perform bad even if it's great and I don't even think it'll be that great. I am very interested in Deadline or Variety writing an article regarding the pushbacks and stuff

Problem with that is HBO/WB has first rights to the streaming. Disney won't have this for a while.

I just got my ticket for next week.

I just. Got my ticket. For New Mutants.

Provided I don't drop dead, I just got a ticket for New Mutants to see next week. No matter how many times I say it, it still sounds weird.

I didn't think it was going to do well before the lockdowns. Honestly it may do slightly better now since it is the 1st movie in theaters or whatever. Not sure how the whole box office money works, I don't see theaters charging the $13-20ishfor tickets like before so the amount it makes would be lower too.

I'll probably wait for Tenet since I just didn't have interest in New Mutants.
