Cable Cord Cutters Thread: Sling, Hulu, YouTube TV, Netflix, and more!

FWIW the good thing with me staying with Xfinity is that I still have the chance to watch the 34345445445343222786 recordings that I have. :funny:

LOL no. I know better! I heard it’s the woooooorst. o_O
They are. But I'm curious to see who will try it. :p

Most of the reputation comes from all the price gouging, especially if you compare it to when it started as DirectTVNow.

AT&T Now really is notoriously awful. :funny:
Have you tried it? :wow:

Before I did Sling, I almost signed up with them when it was DirectTVNow still. I almost signed up my mom before thinking Hulu Live was the better option.

I used to have AT&T Uverse 4 years or so ago and it wasn’t bad. I actually preferred it over Xfinity but I switched because Xfinity had a better price. I liked how their channel groupings made sense. Like news programs would be in consecutive channels, same with movies, sports and all that. When I first switched over to Xfinity, I got so confused because when I’m flipping channels, I’d get AMC and then HBO and then... NBC?!

Yeah that's one of my peeves. So you can imagine one of my favorite things about YTTV is the fact that you can arrange your channels however you want 'em.

You'd think this would be a basic feature on most services.

It almost makes Sling's interface look futuristic.

I don't know about Spectrum, but if you have access to HBO Go through them (as most people do through their cable providers), then you may already have access to HBO Max. I'd check on that first. Just download the app and see if you can log into Max with your HBO Go credentials.

HBO Max has all the HBO movies/shows, plus original shows that won't be on regular HBO including imports from DCU like Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn (both great, imo). Other HBO Max originals right now include Love Life with Anna Kendrick, the comedy Search Party with Alia Shawkat, Adventure Time: Distant Lands, an Elmo "Late Nite" show and new Looney Tunes cartoons for the kids, and upcoming shows include: a big-budget Green Lantern series, a Dune series from the same team that's making the movie, a sci-fi show from Ridley Scott called Raised by Wolves, a crime drama called Tokyo Vice, a post-apocalyptic show called Station Eleven, a DC superhero/sci-fi anthology show called Strange Adventures (as in Adam Strange), a Justice League Dark show from JJ Abrams, and a Gotham Central-esque series that's a spin-off of The Batman from Matt Reeves and Terrence Winter. There are several others too that I can't be bothered with, lol. Here's a list. Of course the dreaded Snyder Cut is in there too next year.

But the main appeal of HBO Max for me right now is their library. TCM and Criterion have a whole section of classics there that is just glorious. And of course there's a DC hub for various DC movies and TV shows. Cartoon Network/Adult Swim have their own section of shows, as does Studio Ghibli and Crunchroll for anime movies and shows, and of course they have a lot of popular old (mostly Warner Bros, BBC and Turner) TV shows that you can't get on regular HBO, like Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Pride & Prejudice (BBC mini-series), Emma (BBC mini-series), The OC, The Flintstones, South Park, The Office (UK), The Thick of It, Whitechapel, The Closer, Major Crimes, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Looney Tunes, Popeye, Johnny Quest, The Jetsons and a bunch of other Hanna-Barbera cartoons, and some of the newer CW shows that don't fall under their Netflix deal (so like Batwoman, Nancy Drew, Katy Keene, etc).
Man, when I ask you a question I get an answer in spades. LOL thanks for all of that. I use HBO go all the time because I’ve been staying at my moms a lot and she doesn’t have HBO. Showtime anytime also.

I'm just tired of Hulu right now. They're locking a lot of content behind Hulu Live now. You want Modern Family? Get Hulu Live. You want Friends? Get Hulu Live. Want the good early Simpsons? Get Hulu Live.

Man Batman and Harry Potter gone already?

That's because it's the content offered by the live networks showing them in syndication. So you'd get Friends episodes from TBS' on demand options, for example. They wouldn't have it otherwise at all, and they wouldn't have the whole show, because HBO Max has the exclusive streaming rights to that. The stuff you see as "Hulu Live only" is stuff regular Hulu wouldn't have had in the first place.

I see take their side. :o What's next I can't see BTAS because it's exclusive to DC Universe!

The Launch Of HBO Max Had Minimal Effect On Q2 Due To Marketing Missteps

Still waiting on a Roku app to fully enjoy it. I've been streaming on my Fire Tablet and phone before bed and it's not as enjoyable. Screen casting is a workaround, but not a great one as my phone and PC are the only things that can cast on my TV.

So in short, I may drop Max until a Roku app is ready or until I upgrade to a Shield.

Speaking of HBO, there’s this really weird show called room 104. It’s really hit or miss, but I just watched episode three of season four. Dave Bautista did a really nice job

I've been looking at the Mi Box. Walmart sells them and they seem to be good.

Yeah I'm thinking it's a yes.
