Dune

So, from that statement... this film sounds like it ends right after Paul/Lady Jessica escape into the Fremen caves.

I wonder if they’ll end it with the ritual or start the second film with that.

Do you mean Paul catching a worm for the first time ? That is relatively far into the second part of the book.
If Zendaya says she was barely in the movie, I would say it ends when Paul and Jessica meet Stilgar’s troupe, at best we got Paul and Jamis fight if it’s even in the movie.

I think I was squishing a lot of the plot from early/mid “book 2” in my head.

To be fair, we don't know exactly what their cutoff point is, and it's possible they could incorporate some elements from Book 2.

When Peter Jackson adapted The Lord of the Rings, he moved Boromir's death to the end of The Fellowship of the Ring when it originally doesn't happen in the first book, because he thought (correctly, IMO) it gave the first movie a better climax point.

People who read the script revealed where the movie ends.

Further indication we will see a trailer this month.

Now that Chalamet has established that he responds to birthday wishes, he's about to get some really sick **** thrown his way.

Here's my guess on where the film ends:

Second act will likely end with the fall of House Atreides on Arrakis. Third act will primarily focus on Jessica and Paul surviving the desert and trying to find the Fremen. Third climax will be Paul facing Jamis and becoming an accepted member of the Fremen, accepting the name Paul Muad'dib and falling in love with Chani. He will put on his father's signet ring and mourn his father's loss and accept his role that he will eventually take the emperor's throne.

I think they‘ll throw out a trailer this month - August belongs to DC/Warner and they‘ll try to iutshine everything what Disney planed. This is why Disney won‘t touch August

interview with supervising art director, key points are giedi prime is indeed in the movie. Also he strongly implies no sandworms in the first movie. There is someone credited for creating the head of the creature, so I think we'll only see the sandworms maw rise out of the sand and that's it. Will remain under the sand or off in the distance if it's seen at all.

Terrible idea. If they are going to talk about the sandworms in this film, if the fremen are going to make a big deal out of them, then a sandworm needs to be shown in its full glory in this film. Don't cocktease the audience, Denis.

I'm actually cool with it, I mean we'll probably see the maw rise from the sand and then moving sand dunes (wormsign). Gives more anticipation to the second film. Considering this is only the first half of the book I don't think they need to dwell on the sandworms too long. Plus as I saw with movies like alien covenant...sometimes the less you show the monster the better.

I hope that you are right.

If this performs like BR 2049, which I think it probably will if Denis doesn't understand how niche a brand this currently is and account for that, WB could pull the plug on the second film. Denis should have approached this like a complete film with a full arc and an ending. Should have teased the worm, built its legend throughout the film, and then shown the worm in full in a big sequence. And then teased that Paul would one day ride one. That should have been the tease for the sequel. Not the worm itself.

Worms won't make or break the movie. Worms were aplenty in the 84 film, they looked epic and it still flopped.

I believe we will see quite a bit of the worm when it consumes the harvester. I think DV said it's a major set piece scene in the film and he's quite proud of it.

I really wish they were filming both films at once... Let alone, also have contracts for Messiah [film 3] on Dennis and cast.

Since DV has already said that they spent an entire year working on the worm design, I am confident will we see both worm sign and worm.

I'm just waiting for a trailer sign.

Probably won't hear much until the last days of the month. I haven't seen any evidence of a trailer being rated and approved though, which is somewhat concerning.
