Black Widow News and Speculation Thread

Any delay to sooner than May 2021 isn’t worth the ink it’s printed on.

And all these delays will be for absolutely nothing if theatres close permanently from having no movies to show for 8 months.

Dual digital and theatre release could buy theatres more time, but that would require Disney to feel charitable.

It would take more than Disney to make that work for theaters.

I'd rather they keep Eternals in February and push this unnecessary prequel to VOD. It should have been a Disney+ show to start with.

They might as well push it back a year from the original date. The MCU and Disney got a bit lucky that Black Widow is the 1st full MCU movie since Endgame and starts a new phase or what not. Even if it does not start a new phase the Eternals is the 1st movie. I couldn't imagine if the pandemic happen right before Endgame or Infinity Wars especially with Boseman sadly passing.

I stay with: Disney+ or publishing now.
If we have a better situation, even audience will not got from one to the other day to the cinema again. And imagine how many movies are in the pipeline right now to wait for the release. Competition will be hard as never.
And I really doubt that the situation will much change in may so it doenst matter.

Fauci says theatres won't be back to normal capacity till 2022, and that's just domestic.

This film isn't going to perform well theatrically unfortunately. Might even be a loss, like Tenet.

I actually think Black Widow would do better than Tenet theatrically domestically simply because Marvel is obviously a way bigger brand name than Nolan at this point, however I don’t see Marvel doing much better than Tenet without key markets like Los Angeles and New York available.

BW would certainly would do better in China than Tenet given how big the Marvel brand is over there, but at the end of the day studios get a bigger percentage of the profits domestically than they do internationally. If BW did big business in China, BW would only get like 25% of box office there.

I am very glad you are not in charge of MCU scheduling changes.

The release for Eternals is the biggest disappointment here...
I wonder how many trailer for BW they will release until then...

Even as someone who's wanted a BW movie for ages, the question of "what's the point?" for a character that died two years earlier is very prevalent now.

Literally everything I was looking forward to this year has been cancelled.

I mean this push back makes way more sense than just dropping it on Disney Plus which was always a long shot IMO anyways, especially when it seems like Mulan didn't do all that well on there in the first place. I'm still looking forward to eventually seeing the movie, but watching almost a whole year worth of new trailers again is just going to be irritating and a part of me is even more pissed off in the fact that now we have to wait even longer for The Eternals.

Figured it was coming and while I'm slightly disappointed, it is what it is. Hopefully this means we'll still get a press tour and premieres next year

I guess this means we won’t get Falcon and Winter Soldier until next summer at the earliest? I was hoping they would release it after WandaVision

I'm not convinced they're waiting to release the TV shows. Production just got delayed because of COVID.

This is sad but what can we do with a pandemic. Everyone stay safe.

Falcon and Winter Soldier is only in question because Black Widow is rumored to have direct ties to it, but who knows if that's true.

They had to stop filming. That's as good an explanation as any for the delay. Could it be Black Widow related? Sure. But there's nothing that requires it.
