The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I'd classify him and Routh as both unknowns, because they were both in the running together for the projects that eventually became Superman Returns, back in 2004.

But yes, Cavill does have the unique position of being the main lead star of a big hollywood motion picture (Immortals 2011) before Man of Steel.

Corenswet? He certainly has an interesting neck for the suit

david-corenswet-r352.jpg
he probably had neck stubble, so they smoothed it out in editing taking away the shape and texture..

let's just reboot with miles teller and let's all move on.....

I like the idea of getting an actor in for his audition as clark... if he pulls off the two aspects of clark, office clark and farm clark, then superman is a side issue as you use superman for the spectacle and not for the dialogue and character building....

That's a really old pic. He was practically still a teen there (I'd wager about 21-22). More recent:

A long neck and lanky build ain't a bad thing when you're 6'4" as he is. Jackman and Hemsworth both had lanky builds before they packed on muscle. It just makes the end result more physically imposing on screen, imo, as you don't get that short, squatty look Cavill has a lot of the time with all his muscle. Affleck dwarfed Cavill whenever they stood next to each other. Corenswet would even more so.

build is everything... Cavill ironically is too big in my mind... movie magic and angles can do wonders - Chris Evans has a great superman figure... Cavill looks stiff and puffy....

Acting is everything. Build is adjustable with movie magic.

While I'm not impressed with Cavill's wooden performance in his three Supes appearances, and the divisive/mixed response he got from mainstream audiences....

A good director could probably turn out a workable performance from him. Stranger things have happened... Patty Jenkins was actually able to make Gal Gadot work, defying all the odds. If that can happen, anythings possible.

Oh yeah, Cavill is definitely salvageable...I would say he has potential even.... I could not watch Witcher, it was typical Cavill wooden acting... I felt his brooding BvS performance just didn't do him any favours.... like, actors can portray brooding but still be so expressive and emotive... Cavill didn't... even in MI, he had his moments... but yeah...

The perfect movie for Cavill and I mean this genuinely... Terminator reboot.

For Fun, Superman using The cast of Stranger Things

Cavill plays cynical passive-aggressive characters with minimal dialogue quite decently. Mainstream audiences and Critics seemed fine with his performances in MI:Fallout, Witcher and you'll see this again in Enola Holmes.

And haha, I think Terminator is unfortunately deader than dead at this point.

No Harrington?

Rude. :o

On Corenswet, he was pretty bad in Hollywood. I don't see him doing Clark any justice. He is just not good enough an actor, not yet anyway.

We need someone for Clark, who is able to bring out the nuances of the character and nail that vibe of hope and optimism that is associated with the character.

I'll rather go Darren Criss than Conreswent (Hollywood comparison). Has so much more screen presence, charisma and not to mention the acting chops.

Australian actor Jacob Elordi certainly has the physical presence, as he is also tall and muscular, although from reading interviews I don't think it is the kind of role he would take. Nothing concrete, but just a view.

I want an actor hired to play Clark Kent... and I want a Dean Cain style.. where Clark in the office is the real guy, then Superman is more mysterious... too quick to see who he is, so many witness accounts, but they get discredited as superman has never been truly 'dissected' by the public.. just these amazing news reports. Obviously grainy pictures and cell phones capture him, but let's be honest.... no one is going to put two and two together, esp as no one in the planet has physically seen superman.

This bloke couldn't possibly be this bloke....

Lol. I was kinda leaning towards Harrington being Jimmy Olsen, but he's too old for that.

Finn Wolfhard isn't on the list either so there are some notable absents. lol.

Jacob Elordi certainly looks like a superhero he stepped out of a comic book.

I've never seen him act before, but look wise, he certainly looks like he could be Clark Kent/Superman.

I'd accept either David Corenswet or Jacob Elordi as the next Clark Kent.

I saw this and he definitely looks like Clark Kent straight off the farm and ready for the big smoke...

I like Elordi's look.

He kinda reminds me of a young Bill Campbell, who played The Rocketeer. He has that kinda old Hollywood look about him, like an actor out of the 30s and 40s.

Corenswet also has that old Hollywood kind of look and reminds me of Cary Grant.

Superman: David Corenswet
Lois Lane: Dakota Johnson
Lex Luthor: Matthew Rhys
Perry White: Ray Liotta
Jimmy Olsen: Jared Gilman
Pa Kent: John Hawkes
Ma Kent: Margo Martindale
Bibbo Bibbowski: Clancy Brown
Professor Hamilton: Jared Harris

British actor Leo Suter could be a dark horse candidate. He is 6,2, has a great deep voice, seems to be in every BBC show being made, can bulk up, has an Oxford degree, seems genuine, smart, talented and an unknown. He is my second choice after Corenswet, and if we have to do British, unlike Cavill, he can at least act, and has a screen presence.

I don’t see it with Elordi. He’s tall and handsome, and pretty damn good on Euphoria, but I don’t see him being that good a Superman.

Elordi is a realistic possibility if they ever reboot Superman down the line,

I can definitely see studios trying to market him, the same way they were doing with Nick Centineo. Same demographics.

Unfortunately, I doubt we'll see anything Superman films for another 5 years or so.

The next Superman actor could sadly be born in the late 90s... or *gasp* in the 2000s. WB really Failed Superman.

Even though Elordi has a resume, he really is a question mark on if he could do the role( and if he wants the role). He could surprise. But what do I know, I didn't see how good Hoechlin could be, and thought Cavill would be an inspired choice, but he was clearly not.

The actor chosen could be a surprise, like Pattinson, and he may surprise, but outside of Corenswet and Elordi, I don't know of any younger actors who could surprise, but that is what casting directors are for. Reeve and Routh came from soap operas which are dying in the US, so maybe streaming services are the way to find the next Superman, since they seem to be everywhere.

I know I only speak for myself, but I would not mind a mixed raced, or POC as Superman, I would find it interesting. Dean Cain was half Japanese, and few seem to care, and Henry Golding has been mentioned in the past. I just prefer an actor with talent, charm, presence, and the correct height.
