X-Men - Part 8

I'm not talking about your reception as thats not being picked up outside the forum. I'm clearly referring to the critics that sent in their reviews to RT and the Rt's audience score. Guess what they aren't good.
That's the difference. There are plenty of movies that were well received by critics that I dislike and the other way around. You yourself have voiced plenty of dislike for properties that were very well received. I'm also not saying that any of these movies were perfect either, they have plenty of faults, but the pure hate that is piled on is still largely unwarranted.

Anyway going back to the comiXs. I'm not reading Children of the Atom just like you already made up your mind it would still be good despite admitting the red flags.
Don't put words in my mouth. I already said that the teaser was pretty worrying and I acknowledged those red flags. Doesn't mean I will disregard the whole thing before it actually releases. That makes absolutely no sense.

Again I was referring to critics not your reception about those critically panned X-Men movies. Enjoy reading Children of the Atom neXt year, the most delayed X-Men comic book title.

The X of Swords

1. Magik
2. The Wolverine
3. Storm
4. Cypher
5. Cable

Judging from the check list and covers, I'm assuming Captain Betsy Britain is the siXth Sword.

Okay so I've been waiting for years for Marvel to make an official list for the official X-Men recruits from the last decade and they finally released it in Age of X Handbook. Plus notes and an updated list of sub teams.

-Eva and FantomeX are not official X-Men members as they didnt accept a full membership. The London team in Astonishing X-Men was just a sub unit.
-X-Men Blue is similar to All New X-Men featuring the time displaced o5. So Daken, Bloodstorm, Poison and Gazing Nightshade weren't official members.
-Lucid is listed as a new recruit but in the next page was listed the only former honorary member. She's the kid who died in Extraordinary X-Men due to M-PoX.

Well the checklist says
Braddock twins. Betsy and Brian. That leaves Gorgon and Apocalypse for the X-Men chapter, which makes sense since they both appeared there.

I loved the overview of all Krakoan locations. Though I would've liked the updated map along with it as well.

I am enjoying these Sword of X centric issues though I just skimmed New Mutants and Cable as I don't read those.

What about Polaris, Havok and M? I thought they were the first three choices for the battle.

Polaris got to do her thing in X-Factor. Havok and M were just among Apocalypse's volunteers for the initial mission.

Mister Sinister as a sassy one liner machine is surprisingly entertaining.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Wolverine issues, but Marauders, Hellions, New Mutants, and Cable have absolutely hit it out of the park.

Marauders gave us high-stakes diplomacy and dramatic betrayals.

I didn't know how Hellions would fit into the event, but it totally clicked.

This was the best Brisson issue and it's his last.

Cable giving us Summers family dynamics!

Hellions is excellent. I have to say I loved what Hickman brought to the table in the Dawn series but since then I haven't really felt the urge to follow the rest of the mutant books. Which books are the best to follow?

By the way @psylockolussus what are your thoughts on Psylocke being Kwannon's persona now instead of Betsy? Are you now more of a Captain Britain fan or Kwannon?

I'm not a fan of their current persona.

Kwannon as Psylocke, confuses me sometimes Xpecially I'm reading Hellions and eXcalibur. While I don't like Betsy as Captain Britain and her current costume looks hideous imo. I wish just they gave Kwannon her own look to differentiate from the classic Psylocke. I wish they used her original codename Revanche. She just looks like a carbon copy of Betsy and I dislike carbon copies/legacy characters and I'm not giving her a pass.

While Psylocke should have kept her costume pre eXcalibur. Also the current eXcalibur imo is the worst out of the siX titles I'm reading as of the moment.

I was hoping for M and Polaris to destroy those ancient Horsemen oh well. Polaris needs to avenge Rockslide.

So far out of the 5 tributes, the Wolverine and Cable are the least interesting. So I hope they lose and never get resurrected due to the conditions in that place.

Wolverine #1 is estimated to be the highest-selling comic of 2020. Six issues of X-Men, 2 from X/FF, X-Force #5, Hellions #1, and yes Cable #1 also make the top 50 so far. Purely from a business perspective, I don't see them 'losing' any of these characters.

I don't care if they sell like pancakes or not. I'm not a fan of those characters. They might as well include Magneto, the Professor, Marvel Girl as tributes if its all about popularity and who sells then. I want the other characters to shine.

Personally, Hellions and X-Factor are the best of the books. I don't read it, but Marauders gets a lot of praise. And the main X-men series pretty much rounds out the key books.

Getting caught up, and I am enjoying these little personal stories about gathering the swords. I do wonder how long the tournament is actually going to last. I doubt the last half of the event is just going to be a tournament arc. I am also just loving this deep Apocalypse lore. I do still wonder about the "first of the second generation of mutants", or if it was just way to streamline Selene and Apocalypse. And on the plus side, I now know what happened to Genesis. I hope she and a lot of the Arrakko characters stick around.

And dear god, I love this version of Sinister. I was kind of surprised how much Exodus was used in the batch of issues I got today.

I don't like that Captain Avalon and ---[A]--- are tributes. I wanted them to choose ten X-Men and those two aren't at all. Is Gorgon a tribute as well? That wasn't very clear and there were two Scarabs. So that leaves 1 to 2 spots left before the Sword games begin.

It is a curious thing. 10 swords are pretty much accounted for. Unless Gorgon gives up one of his swords, there is still one spot open.

Both of Gorgon's swords were mentioned as well as one person fighting two fights. He'll probably claim both spots.

Yikes so much for having ten spots in the circle if one person (who's not even a X-Man) can take two spots.

I liked Statis, but I'll admit that the story of this event is stretched a bit thin overall. The stuff with the Swordbearers of Arrako probably should've been worked into the previous books, like Solem in Wolverine. That said, I'm happy that the back half of the event only lasts four weeks, and I'm hoping to see some good pay-off here.

I can't wait for the actual matches to start but this is really looking like a story arc for ---[A]----, rather than the X-Men team (well there isn't a X-Men team atm), so I'm meh on that. While Gorgon is too undershown to be holding 2 swords. Before I was complaining how things Magneto, Xavier, the Wolverine, the time displaced o5 got so much attention/importance but now its the turn of ----[A]----. Eh.

The new characters look interesting though eXcept for the ex of ----[A]---- im not into that love quarrel at all.

I mean, this is an Apocalypse centered event. Expect him to be a bit less promiment post X of Swords.

I don't mind the spotlight on Apocalypse because Hickman writes him really well. It's more the pacing of the whole thing.

I haven't read X-Men in a while but for me the X-Men and Punisher always seemed like they should've had their own separate world apart from the MU. Similar to the Punisher Max series.
