General PC Discussion

Oui, monsieur! Artisan keycaps... Yeah I don't think I'll be buying anymore considering the hefty prices (40 USD a piece :funny:).

Looks like the SA keycap profile. I've used nothing but the OEM profile.

What switches do you use?

Yes,the new keyset is SA profile, the standard set was OEM (I just learned about those things). I don't see much difference to be honest.
It's a brown switch Filco.
I'm contemplating buying O-Rings to make the key bottom out smoother and to decrease the keys sound, not sure yet.

40USD a piece is indeed pricey...for comparison, the Filco double shot ABS is 51€/47£.

So AMD revealed their Zen 3 CPUs last week. Prices do seem a bit high, and the CPUs won't be coming with stock coolers so AMD is essentially taking a page from Intel...

Ryzen 9 5950X (16c/32t) - $799
Ryzen 9 5900X (12c/24t) - $549
Ryzen 7 5800X (8c/16t) - $449
Ryzen 5 5600X (6c/12t) - $299

I've tried O-rings years ago for a few weeks and didn't not like them. Sure they reduce the "clack" noise from bottoming out the keys but they have this squishy feeling similar to typing on a membrane keyboard. Though I did get some generic O-rings so quality may not have been there.

I suggest you to install them on the letter keys and spacebar to test if you like them. Installing and removing about 104 O-rings can be annoying. :hehe:

And yes, an artisan keycap for the average price of a full keyset is insane but it's part of the hobby...

Yeah, I read that about some type of O-rings but it depends on the rings and material , blue, black or red I've read.
In my case, the choice will be black (silicone/reduce distance but not sound) or red (silicone/standard travel and sound reduction).
Then again, I don't mind the heavy sound and it's not that I am a cheapo but it will be long process before buying something that I am not certain to need and/or like (it will be a 20€ expense with delivery).
It took me like 2 or 3 years before buying the double shot keys.

Random comment about the no stock cooler on the last AMD CPU.
If I would spend that much on a CPU (449 USD to 799 USD ) I would buy a performant cooler without a thought to replace the stock one. Not even talking about the buyers of these pricey CPU who will surely try to over clock them.

AMD's stock cooler for their non-X CPUs is generally regarded as better than Intel's for their non-K CPUs so I can imagine how much better AMD's stock cooler for the X-suffix CPUs is. Sure an aftermarket cooler is better, but for those who aren't going to OC immediately or are constrained by budget, the included cooler is incredible value for the price.

I still haven't overclocked my 6600K after almost 4 years and I put an expensive Noctua cooler on it. :funny:

To each its own after all.
AFAIC, I will never cheap out again on the cooler, OC or not OC.
For 25€ you can get one with a big radiator, good silent fan and from a brand (I use a BeQuiet Slim Rock for my I5 6500).

The one PC component that should definitely not be cheap out on is the power supply unit.

Totally random: I never payed attention or realized if or if not my num lock led went off when my PC is shutdown. For the life of me, I can't remember and started wondering about keyboard leds life span and how to make the num lock led shut off when I turn off my PC.
Some silly stuff.

The console version looks kind of cute lol.

6800 - $579
6800 XT - $649
6900 XT - $999

The 6900 XT being close to the 3090 in 4K performance for 500 dollars cheaper? Damn...

Wow, and we all thought Nvidia went all out with 30xx series in terms of performance for price in order to drive AMD out. Well, I have the feeling that the 40xx series will be pretty crazy... In response.

Oh so this is why they cancelled it?

so my brother just bough the 3080 for much more than it goes for retail and he wouldn't tell me how much lol. But this means his 2080ti will officially be mine this month! Also paid off my PS5 yesterday at gamestop. bringing in the next gen on all fronts.

Congrats!! Feels like the next gen consoles have put some decent hardware out at the same time as pc has aimed for the sky. Great news for the future of gaming.

The 3080 being so hard to find/buy, I suspect he got it off from eBay (scalper)?
I never buy off scalpers.

I was just reading and weeping after seeing a comparison of how the 3090 absolutely crushes my 2080 TI. I might wait to see what they’ve got next year and hopefully it’s another strong improvement.

I can't wait for a few more years when the next gen consoles have settled in and we start getting games that start pushing boundaries with all this amped up hardware on both the console and pc front. There's no weak link now with Switch/Nintendo going in a separate direction.
