The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread

I know it would piss a few people off but I want to see Superman’s powers toned way down the next time we see him on film.

Basically I don’t want to see anything like this :funny:

My biggest issue with this scene is its shot so boringly.

Is it fair to assume that nothing is going on with a new Superman movie at WB since ever other picture at the studio seems to be moving to a later date than forecasted? The entire film slate seems to be pushed back, for understandable reasons, so any talk of a new Superman movie is mute at this point.

Accept of course for Cavill being second or third banana in the movies starring others.

Could you guys list ten writers/directors/producers that did the best work on Superman? I'm running an experiment. No artists. I want to see how many people born after 1964 show up.

I'd add Joaquim Dos Santos--he was a frequent director on Justice League: Unlimited, including the Cadmus Arc which was very Superman-heavy, as well as the finale "Destroyer" with the great speech Superman gives to Darkseid.

Geoff Johns too for his work with the character in Secret Origins, Infinite Crisis, and his many comic runs across DC.

And Dan Jurgens & Louise Simonson!

but to limit to just 10,

comics.

So nobody is putting much stock in the new Matt Reeves or JJ Abrams rumors at "We got this covered" or "Cosmic book news" ?

No. Those crap sites arent worth the time. They could tell me 2+2=4 and I would doubt it.

Not only am I not putting any stock into whatever they’re saying, I would also gleefully cut off my left hand if it meant no one else would either.

No. Censoring the address for WGTC on this website was my proudest achievement as an admin, and I hope it’s what I’m remembered for when I’m gone.

Hahaha.

Sorry, I enjoy shots at the site.

Really, there is no trusted scoop site.

For better or worse you have to trust trades, which are in bed with studios.

There is no equivalent to pro wrestling dirt sheets where some have been around almost 40 years and have a long track record.

We're supposed to trust Grace Randolph? For what reason?

The days of Latino Review are over. There's no one to believe in unfortunately.

If you want an official word or announcement, you go to the trades like Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline. Those aren't the only ones, but those are the ones fans tend to hear about the most in relation to these projects.

If you want rumors, gossip, and scuttlebutt, you go to scoopers. At that point , it becomes an issue of which scoopers have been on the mark the most or have the most credibility.

I don't dismiss all scoopers or people who've claimed to have heard things, out of hand, because there have been times they are right in terms of casting , behind the scenes drama, etc.

As an example, Drew McWeeny reported on Hitflix show that WB was worried about BvS, and how audiences would respond to it a month before critics and audiences saw the film , and that report was pretty spot on, even though alot of fandom didn't want to believe it.

That didn't come from Variety or the Hollywood reporter.

So , I never presume its bs just because the trades don't report it.

However, sites like We've got this Covered and Cosmic Book News, are like the Enquirer and The Star Magazines for fanboys.

Yeah, they may every once in a while report a story with a grain of truth, but most of the time, its bs like Elvis has married an Alien.

I dont ever trust scoopers. Just because they end up being right doesnt mean they actually knew anything. They often throw out 10 pieces of bad information for every one bit of good and most people seem to only focus on the one piece of good.

I will read them, but much like with most things it is one data point and it means nothing. And since most of them play the clickbait game anyways half the time they dont deserve any sort of real respect. And since they almost never admit they got anything wrong it means they arent really worth anything anyways. That is why even though it seems Grace has some sources close to Zack Snyder I still remember how wrong and awful she was about Wonder Woman and she never owned up to most of it. It is why Eh, Maybe has almost no value anymore. It is why Campion is a joke. If you are going to play the game, own up when you lose.

I think it depends on what you mean by" bad information".

These scoopers tend to report what their sources are telling them , so the scoopers are not getting it wrong or right, they're reporting what their source is telling them.

Their source doesn't have the right or up to date information. The scoopers don't know anything in that sense. That's why they're going to sources.

Alot of the stuff scoopers tend to report on are what their sources claim things are which the studio would like to do, or what the studio is thinking about, or what they are considering doing.

Other information may be plot points of a film or behind the scenes goings on.

If that information doesn't come to pass i.e. they want to cast a certain actor in a role but end up going with another actor , is that bad information?

If there's conflict behind the scenes but the other trades and the production don't comment on it, is that bad information?

It also depends on what you mean by "they".

Do you mean sites like Cosmic Book news and We've got this covered , a person with a youtube channel who claims to know things, or do you mean a scooper who may have once worked for a trade but still has sources inside the studio system?

I discern between different scoopers and different sources based on credibility. I don't consider them all on the same level.

There's alot of bunk, and sometimes the studios leak false info to find out who in their ranks is leaking stuff.

It's not an issue of trust for me. If you're looking for 100% confirmation, yeah, you go to the trades for that, cause you're not gonna get that confirmation a scooper.

But for someone like me, who's been following the development of these type of films since the 90s, and who may be interested in what's going on behind the scenes for a given project that a studio may not want to discuss, I'll read or hear out what scooper is saying.

Doesn't mean I'll believe them. There were a few alleged scoops recently that I don't buy for a second based on the plausibility and the source.

For me it's an issue of which scoops and which scoopers have the most credibility , and that in turn, I determine how much weight I give to their report or info.

They dont vet their sources, and they often report info that anyone with a logical brain would question. And then, when said info is wrong they never actually say "you know what my source was incorrect and I am sorry that I misinformed you" they just ignore it and move on to the next piece of info. And they never then ignore said source or become skeptical of the source they often double down on the source.

That is what I mean by trust. We all make mistakes and trust people/sources we shouldnt. But we then stop trusting that person (or at least we should) and we certainly dont hold their information in high esteem after they have been proven false. (especially more than once) We also mea culpa when we screw something up. Grace, Eh Maybe, McWeeny, Campion...all those "Look at me I got a podcast or a youtube channel" scoopers never do any of that. Anyone who puts any stock in anything they say after the multitude of times they have been fooled, lied to or just outright spread misinformation is just begging to be fleeced imho. Just because they pretend they arent clickbait doesnt mean they arent in fact clickbait.

(I wont even get into crap like cosmic or wegotthis they just make stuff up on their own)

Look I get that people want to be in on the inside...want to feel like they know more than they are supposed to know. It is fun as hell and it adds to the hype. (its part of why I am here :) ) But how anyone can trust any of these clowns after they were all fooled by the fake BvS script and spread lies based on it for weeks/months I will never know. The script couldnt even get Lois Lane's name right (Louis) and it blatantly took theories from boards like this and expanded on them to ridiculous degrees and yet all the scoopers bought it hook line and sinker. (Eh Maybe did even after it was proven fake) As soon as it got out and us non scoopers read it we had it figured out within an hour or so. Only the sycophants of the scoopers bought it in any way. Yet all those same clowns with all their same sources still get the benefit of the doubt from the thirsty.

I am not saying dont read them, I am not saying dont buy what they say sometimes. What I am saying is you should read every word they write on any subject and be skeptical of it to high degrees. Like when someone gives you a tip on which horse to bet on...keep it in mind but dont bank your mortgage on it ;)

Campea isn't even a true scooper anyway. He just busts out the occasional one to draw more eyes. I wish he would stop doing it.

I know what he's doing sometimes with the Pattinson thing or the Filioni thing. It's a work. (A put on.)

I know what Harloff and him were doing with the Darth Plagueis "scoop".

They don't normally do that type of thing. They just cover the news and discuss it It's a nice thing to have around so you know most of what is going on and don't have to read so many damn articles to keep up with everything. Then to hear anyone talk about anything entertainment related at all. I have to be on the internet anyway. Such a damn snooze fest where I'm located. Can't talk entertainment or politics or pretty much anything beyond small talk. So it's forums, groups on Facebook, or watching talking heads.

Don't know about anyone else

I think JJ been involved in the next Superman is a dead cert but that’s also why I don’t put much stock in the rumours cause it’s one of those obvious things.

People are going to be pissy about how things turned out on Rise of Skywalker (with fairly good reason) but JJ is a good guy to get this off the ground.

The past decade of Superman on the big screen has been dictated by Snyder’s deconstructionist tendencies. But based on the CBMs Marvel churns out on the regular and the general state of the world right now, I think we’re ready for a Superman who isn’t a miserable piece of ****. And the guy who gave us Star Trek ‘09 and The Force Awakens is a damn good choice for that.

But yeah, based on Into Darkness and Rise of Skywalker, he’s gotta turn over the reigns after that first film. Assuming this is even true, of course.

Yeah, the man doesn't like to do, and definitely shouldn't do sequels. It seems obvious to me that a big reason he was on autopilot on TROS is because he never wanted to come back and do it in the first place. JJ has always had a short creative attention span, even going back to his TV days. But for rebooting and reigniting interest in a flailing IP like Supes, there's no one I'd trust more. He's the guy who knows how to kick things off in a way audiences will embrace and get excited about. Just as long as he then passes the reins off to someone else once it's off the ground. Which I think he would.

From a casting standpoint, I’d be especially amped for it.

Chris Pine, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were quite the discoveries. I’d hope for the same in their Clark Kent.
