The Joker Thread - Part 1

Although I’m not the first to have a theory where Joker is a young punk who leads his own gang of nutjobs...My theory is that the Joker will be closer to Alex from A Clockwork Orange. Almost a replica. Even down to his split with his droogs, but instead of Joker going to prison to be reformed...he is sent to Arkham Asylum and convinces everyone that he’s “better” which leads to his release. No breakout.

Before Arkham, Alex/Joker and his droogies (red hood gang) drift through each night committing horrifying crimes just for fun. It’s not an intellectual thing at all. No rhyme or reason to it. It’s f’d up to say the least. Breaking and entering, rape, experimental drugs (remember the Milk Bar aka drug hangout. I would create something similar but related to DROPS). Alex was quite young too.

I love all of the Clockwork Orange stuff. Could definitely see that as inspiration

I dig the hair, but not the outfit. Looks almost like Ralph Fiennes who, if you think about it, looks like Conrad Veidt.

I thought it looked like Christopher Eccleston, but then again Christopher Eccleston is like Discount Ralph Fiennes.

The Ace Chemicals nod tells me it will be a logical extension of Joker. But we’ve seen the fall into a bath of chemicals (we saw it with Nicholson and we saw Leto jump in when Harley took her first fall). I don’t see it happening again on screen unless it’s Red Hood but you have to change it up further. Not just some random joint he stumbles into. Is Joker a chemist in Reeves’ movie?

Imagine a 20 something Jesse Pinkman working at Fring’s lab, but what if he was a psychotic wild card instead? No heart, no redeemable qualities. And THAT dude secretly creates his own drug just to **** with ppl. If he has to be employed, this works for me in Reeves’ world more than a clown dayjob (which was perfect for Joaquin).

Alex was quite young too. This is me coming back around to my Barry Keoghan theory. He fits this version sooo well. I just rewatched Killing of a Sacred Deer and this guy is BRILLIANT. Deeply unsettling and can change the pitch of his voice and accent no problem. As good as Pattinson. If he’s Mad Hatter or a cop, I’ll be disappointed OR scared of who’s getting cast as Joker cuz how do you OUT CREEP this guy?

Yeah, for me at least, the bar for casting the Joker in Reeves' films will have been risen even higher than it already was following the success and acclaim of Heath and Joaquin's takes by Barry Keoghan's casting in the film and heavy rumors that he's a secret villain.

He hasn't won an Oscar yet, but that guy can act. And he's got the chops to do something genuinely horrific with the character, just like Heath and Joaquin did in the past. That's honestly a big part of why I'm hoping it's him.

He was announced to be a cop, and someone that looked kinda like him was confirmed to be on set. We never really got total proof he was there.

I'm not personally entirely expecting Barry to be Joker, but I'm sure as hell hoping he is.

I'm kinda hoping he's Mad Hatter. Yeah, he's got those shifty reptilian eyes that would be great for Mr. J, but other than that he just physically looks a bit closer to Mad Hatter to me.

I think Dafoe should be a permawhite Joker because anything else feels like a waste of his natural resemblance. Oddly enough the makeup still looks interesting despite being heavily influenced by Phoenix with the red eyebrows and blue triangles.

DaFoe just needs a bit of makeup applied and off he goes. Keoghan, you can do the same or you can just not screw with his crazy eyes and go to work on mutating the lower half of his face.

I think it would be cool if his eyeliner had little "spikes" or "cracks" around the edges, like Ledger's runny mascara, but intentional to give him a more glam look. This Skarsgard manip I found on Twitter is just a placeholder; not advocating for that choice but it gave me the idea.

They ain't goin to my head because it's already empty bro.

But it's just an idea that I wouldn't be opposed to. And it doesn't have to be black eye makeup necessarily, it could be purple, red, or pink for all I care. He IS a mastermind, but given the way he usually carries himself as a showman or celebrity, I could see him taking some influence from musicians, moreso of the theatrical variety.

I mean, Pattinson's batsuit looks very TDK-influenced. Not saying Joker has to follow suit at all but it wouldn't be THAT surprising. Maybe a little disappointing but not completely left field

Yeah, he's a criminal mastermind, but he does it with style. Some more wardrobe ideas; IMHO they'd play into that kitschy aesthetic that he usually seems to go for in the comics. Just the jackets themselves would get the point across:

The trenchcoat and fedora would obviously draw classic 70s Joker comparisons, but I also feel like it could make him look like Nosferatu, especially with the thin, lanky build.
