The Child...

Ahh dammit
I was working on a drawing, but that's way better than what I'll be able to accomplish
(although mine leans more into the cuteness factor, that one's a bit intimidating lol)

I sort of hope the child never wears Mandalorian armor. I think it would just be the jumping the shark moment for this show. Either THAT or an ending or epilogue moment.

I don't think it would be that bad but would prefer it being for protection than joining Din in an action scene going crazy with the force or him quickly being trained as a Mandalorian after all

Favreau and Filoni did a great job with this character. Had they over-played this character it would've been Scrappy Doo and fans would end up hating it. They did a very subtle job with this baby so people fell in love with it instead of wanting it to die. It is very much like Lone Wolf and Cub.

I'll be that guy...

I'm getting there if not already there.

This puppet and the comedy "bits" that eat up this show's very limited episode runtime are quite apparently the most crutchiest of crutches to me at this point.

Just as an observation... This thread hasn't gotten any love since Jan.

And it's only 3 pages long.

Is the fact that this isn't a character but a marketing ploy and indeed, series crutch to get over on the audience's sympathy and weakness for "cute" while contributing only "laughs" and ultimately I suppose being the series macguffin possibly the reason?

I can definitely see how the hysteria of the child can get on someone's nerves.

I also definitely think they went overboard with people's patience for the child in episode 2. Look at the backlash over him eating the eggs. People found it horrifying.

But for me, episode 2 was the only instance where I felt it was all too much.

There's a lot of YMMV.

And the extreme on the other side is also a bit insipid.

I mean... No, this character is presented as a baby and thus, as tin eared as the egg shirt was (and again... If they just pushed the story forward in some way we'd ALL not give the egg too much thought... Se la vie.) it's not somehow this grand moral breaking point or the baby is as bad as a Sith or what have you.

At the same time... It's also pretty clear that they have been calculating with this character from the start and, as stated... YMMV as to one's tolerance for barely disguised naked appeals to soft hearts.

Oh the Child is a Sith lord. Of that I have no doubt :)

The question is how "functional" is the child. He was at the Jedi temple on Coruscant.

He's been trained somewhat by several Jedi Masters. Granted he's been in hiding but he's still over 50 years old, and was able to communicate with Ahsoka. Based on size and relative cuteness we've all been viewing his level of function as that of a toddler. However it seems like it should be more like that of an 8-10 year old. Also there's the question of communicating with Din. Wonder if he'll stop trying to hide and we'll see more of what Grogu is capable of in the next few episodes.

Next question is where does the show go if Grogu gets taken in by the Jedi? Or do we think he's on the path to become a Child of the Watch or other Mandalorian sect like Din?

I don't know, I think you might be underestimating how capable a 3-5 year old can be. . . or not be, if they are precocious but traumatized.

Anyway, I'd be shocked if the ultimate outcome is not some variation on "Grogu becomes a Mandalorian modeled after his 'father'". Which doesn't mean he necessarily abandons his connection to the Force, just that. . . he's not trying to be a space samurai, he's trying to be a space knight. Which has an amusing effect: It would mean that Din's particular take on the Mandalorian Way, as taught to Grogu, could potentially be taught onward to future generations of foundling recruits, directly by one who knew Din personally and intimately, for *centuries*. That's the material for an entire new *society* being born.

From someone at the Rebel toy forum:
amazingly enough Favro and Filoni name the Child/Baby Yoda taking consideration of George Lucas name.

"Grogu" is a reference to GeORGe LUcas
Outrageous Fan conjecture? (wouldn't that be Gorglu?:funny:
Or possibly True?
What say you?

I wonder what the long term goal is with the child. Where will he get to by series end?

If Grogu is so powerful and has so much potential, I don't see Kylo Ren dispatching him so easily when he burns the temple down.

That’s like, what, twenty years after where we are now? We don’t know where Grogu is at that point.

That kinda adds to the point I am trying to make. People are going crazy thinking Kylo killed Grogu, but Grogu will have had lots more training by then, so wouldn't be dispatched so easily, and may not even be at the temple by that point.
