Game of Thrones - Book Readers' Thread - - - - - - - - Part 25

You’d think the end of the series and then quarantine would help.
The series ending meant nothing in terms of GRRM's workload. He only had a hand in the creative process through the first four seasons. He was soured on it after they didn't want to wait for him to finish the series.

I mean, he says he's finished three chapters over the last two weeks so...

*knocks on every piece of wood in the room*

When are the rest of the books coming out? Has there been any updates.

Good question. Martin says 2021. But knowing him, I wouldn't get your hopes up. At this point, you can't really wait for it. It'll come out when it comes out.

At this point, the closest thing to entertainment is reading the Wikipedia release section of The Winds of Winter. It's comedy.

And it's been 5 years since Logan Lucky was released.

It is SO ******* wild that this was a joke in a major studio release and now FIVE YEARS LATER we STILL don't even have Winds of Winter. I'm a late-comer to the fandom, I can't imagine waiting the past ten years with no evidence from Martin of an end in sight.

It's been 11 years since ADWD, right? And still no word on TWOW.

I mean, I honestly don't see him taking less than 10 years to write ADOS either. So 2032 and later.

It's wild.

Yeah, there's been plenty of updates. I meant no word on the actual release. The book has not been finished or released yet and we have no idea when it will be.

At some point, someone else is going to have to finish the books if they are to continue. It's undeniable at this point.

We all know, deep in our hearts, what the release date is....

He's 73 and morbidly obese. It will be a miracle if he lives to 80.

I've read Winds. Jon is resurrected and travels to Pompeii... where he meets a man named Corvus, and trains as a Sutherland Knight.

When you get past the 1200 page mark, at that point you should say to yourself "Maybe this should be two books."

If we do ever get this book it’s going to be interesting to see how different it is from the directions the show took.

I'm willing to bet the original drafts and outlines weren't as different as people believe. Now, it's a pretty safe bet that a lot of the beats that were heavily criticized in the show will be executed differently in the books.

I'm assuming that's one of the reasons why it's been delayed even further. I'm fairly certain that some of the conclusions in the show will be the same since GRRM did divulge some plot points to Benioff and Weiss. I'm guessing some of them include Daenerys going mad and Bran becoming king but I'm also certain that they'll probably be better received than in the show because you can fit a whole lot more story into 2500+ remaining pages in the books than 6 hour-long episodes.

Yeah, absolutely! I think a large part of the problem with GOT season 7/8 isn't the beats themselves, but how they were presented. Admittedly, I didn't think I'd be back caring this much about Westeros in 2022, but we do have HOTD to thank for that. :D
