The Mandalorian Chapter Sixteen Spoiler Discussion

Luke was awesome, but it would've been better if he AND a (slightly showing) pregnant Leia showed up and wrecked shop together. Nerd overload!!

Loved that reveal. I just watched the episode and I had heard there was a big guest star that would show up. I should have figured it was Luke but I guess that Thrawn name drop a few episodes earlier made me think it would be him. But I guess they are saving him for the Ahsoka series.

All in all, I think this season surpassed season 1 in pretty much every way. Better writing, better character development for Mando and his supporting cast, etc. Moff Gideon was a great villain and while my inner voice was saying “Just KILL him!” at the end, I’m glad he survived. But can someone tell me what rank is “Moff”? Is that a real thing or is it just something Star Wars made up?

The one weak spot I would say was Boba. It kind of confirmed for me what I’ve been saying for the past 30 years; that Boba isn’t a compelling character at all and the only reason people love him so much is because he looks cool. He’s basically the Venom of the SW universe. Even here, they didn’t seem to know what to do with him. He shows up and then mostly just hangs out in the ship while Fennic does most of the real work. Hopefully they’ll manage to make him interesting in his own show but I’d honestly rather the show center on Fennic Shand because she’s a hell of a lot cooler IMO.

i was against luke showing up but boi was I wrong. i loved the entire episode. what did it for me though was when Din removed his helmet for Grogu. it was a touching moment.

Yeah that almost made me cry, which is something I never thought this show would do. I know the fan base is probably split on this but I hope this means that Din will take his helmet off more from now on. It seems like it’s heading in that direction, especially now that his allies have seen his face and because he’s now met other Mandos who don’t adhere to the masks-all-the-time rule.

i cried. still cry of it cause i can't get it out of my mind. it was so damn good and emotional. it'll be interesting what road Din takes in season 3.

Has there been any talk about Timothy Olyphant’s character becoming a series regular in season 3? I know he seems pretty well situated on Tatooine but I’d love to see him return and join Mando’s crew. More Olyphant is always a good thing.

I can see him showing up on Book of Boba Fett considering it will likely primarily take place in Tatooine

If Timothy Olyphant really does come back for The Book of Boba Fett I see it feeling even more like a gritty Western/Gangster type of a show considering his roles on both Deadwood and Justified. Now, that would be awesome to see and worthy of his talent IMO.

Olyphant is a series lead kind of TV actor. He might return for more guest spots (and I hope he does), but he'll never sign on to be a regular in a supporting role, imo.

Maybe, but he pretty much played a supprting role in the newest season of Fargo, so I wouldn't bet against it either. I just want to see more of him as the Cobb Vanth though.

Fargo's a one-shot deal, though. Basically the same thing as a mini-series. Which just backs up my "he's special guest-star material" argument. If he's gonna be a regular in an ongoing series again, he'll be the lead, imo.

Based on his interviews on Conan, he pretty much does what he wants. And if it's Star Wars, he'd be happy to just be aboard.

Ohhhh I didn’t realize that he was in the new season of Fargo. I kind of dropped off on that show during season 3 but I guess I’ll have to give it another try.

I am the opposite. I would like to see him decide, of his own volition, to hold to the helmet rule, save only when motivated by something as strong as in season 2. Not because there is no other way, but because he chooses that way, as part of his own identity and self-discipline. Make it not a restriction, but a source of strength and a way to transcend his own human nature, and be something greater.

Basically, he wears the mask because, ultimately, he is not Din Djarin, individual foundling and bounty hunter. He is The Mandalorian, an icon of all the best that his people aspire to be.

I like Olyphant and Cobb Vanth and all, but I don't see it happening.

Agreed. He's probably the only one who's opinion on Star Wars outside of George Lucas that actually matters.

Hell, he's the only one who can make me appreciate The Phantom Menace a hell of a lot more.

That man is a treasure.

I'd love to get him back. With the number of shows announced and likely being planned I'm sure there will be a good opportunity somewhere if he fancies it.
