Atlus has launched a new teaser website at P5S.jp, teasing “1 More Information” for release on April 25.

The source code of the website features the following hidden calling card:

Calling Card

April 25, 2019.

We will show you a new Phantom Thieves that will turn the world’s cognition on its head.

We are energized by voices that seek satisfaction.

Once again, we will take your heart at the Ryougoku Kokugikan.

—From the Phantom Thieves.

April 25 is the second day of the “Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019: Welcome to No. Q Theater!” concert at the Ryougoku Kokugikan in Tokyo.

After an initial tease in December 2018, Atlus officially announced Persona 5: The Royal for PlayStation 4 in March via a 30-second commercial. More information on that will be announced on April 24—the first day of the concert.

sigh, another teaser...…...

S probably stands for the much rumored Switch version, but who really knows.

it is getting tiresome with all these teaser of teasers of teasers...…….

wish they would just come out and announce whatever these multiple Persona projects are, what platforms they are on, etc.

if anything, I'd like to know how these new projects relate to the base game, cuz I've been holding off playing the base game, not sure what these new projects will be.

So true . they should put out for both the switch & steam and not prolong these thing's . it does help.

Best Buy internal system lists The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Persona 5 for Switch
Published 5 hours ago. 147 comments.
New Switch announcements due soon?

Switch-Best-Buy_04-02-19.jpg

Best Buy’s internal CoreBlue system has listed The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Persona 5 for Switch.

News first broke when Twitter user MysticDistance posted an Imgur link of screenshots taken from a “Persona 5 – Nintendo Switch” listing in Best Buy’s CoreBlue system.

Twitter user Wario64, who regularly tweets video game-related deals, was able to confirm the listing is in the CoreBlue system.

Wario64 soon followed up with updates revealing that both Metroid Prime Trilogyand The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past are listed.

The SKUs for all three titles are within close range of each other, only being a few numbers off, meaning that they were likely all added to the system one after the other. One of the in-between SKUs is Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S – Definitive Edition.

Here is a break down of each product listing:

  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was originally released for Super Nintendo in 1991 and was ported to Game Boy Advance in 2002. A Virtual Console version was released for Wii U in January 2014 and New 3DS in April 2016. That said, this listing is probably the strangest of the batch, being that Nintendo recently announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch.
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy has been rumored for Switch in the past, with Game Informer’s Imran Khan saying in January that development on the collection is “long done” and that it was originally “supposed to be announced [in December 2018].”

Gematsu has reached out to Best Buy for comment and is awaiting a response.

Atlus brand manager discusses Joker in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, potential of Persona 3 and 4 remasters, more
Published 11 hours ago. 110 comments.
"Our biggest challenge now is to release a game which goes beyond the height of Persona 5."

Atlus-Naoto-Hiraoka-GNN_04-04-19.jpg

At Taipei Game Show 2019 in January, Atlus brand owner Naoto Hiraoka spoke to Taiwanese website GNN Gamer regarding the company’s current and future games lineup. The interview was published today.

Here are a few key tidbits, translated by Persona Central:

  • There are currently no plans for Atlus to work more closely with Sega’s properties in the future, but the groups are in close communication with each other which has allowed for things like Yakuza and Sonic costumes in Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight and such.

  • Persona 5 sales have topped 2.4 million copies worldwide.

  • In the future, Atlus is targeting simultaneous releases for Japan and the Asian market.

  • Regarding Joker in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: “Joker will participate in Super Smash Bros. mainly because of the invitation from Sora Ltd.’s Masahiro Sakurai. That is what led to this collaboration. Because Mr. Sakurai likes Persona 5 very much, and I personally like Super Smash Bros. a lot, my first thought when I received the invitation was ‘Great!’ I was very happy to establish a relationship for this collaboration.”

  • Regarding if Joker in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate means Persona 5 will be released for Switch: “We don’t have a specific answer to give for that question, but I personally think that the Nintendo Switch is a very attractive platform.”

  • Regarding the potential of Catherine becoming a series: “We need to observe players’ reactions before thinking about the next step.”

  • Shin Megami Tensei V is still under development. However, because this is Atlus’ first time tackling Nintendo Switch game development, there are many things to consider. How to present the game is our future challenge, so please wait patiently for follow-up news.”

  • Studio Zero’s Project Re Fantasy is “going smoothly.”

  • Regarding Atlus’ future challenges: “Because Persona 5 is a game which has achieved greatly, our biggest challenge now is to release a game which goes beyond the height of Persona 5, including the just mentioned Project Re Fantasy, as well as some new projects which have not yet been announced. I hope that we can strive for excellence and to achieve results beyond Persona 5.”

  • Regarding the potential of remastering Persona 3 and Persona 4: “Although we can’t specifically tell you anything at the moment, we have always received a lot of suggestions from the players. We have received and understood the voices of the players, and if there is an opportunity, we will actively discuss it.”

hopefully tomorrow and Thursday, we finally get actual concrete info about these new Persona 5 projects ( P5R and P5S ). and not just a quick teaser trailer with more info coming at a later date.

it's time for Atlus to confirm just what these games are, what platforms they are on, how they tie into the base game, and a rough estimate on release date.

stuff has been teased since December. the time for teasing is done.......lol.

Atlus is expected to announce the latest information on Persona 5 RPG Persona 5: The Royale on April 24, as well as a separate Persona 5 game currently only known as Persona 5 S on April 25.

I will link to the Japanese trailer later. but they confirmed Persona 5 :The Royal will launch in Japan on October 31, 2019.

It will launch in the West and Asia in 2020. And seems to just be called Persona 5 Royal outside of Japan.

From the information I've been reading, P5R is for the PS4 and will be Pro enhanced. It also seems like it is a "remake" of the base game with tons of new content. Including the new Redheaded girl ( Kasumi? ) and a male school counselor confidant.

Plus more hangout locations and activities, mechanics/systems, and a "3rd Semester" to play through.

so it sounds like an updated and expanded version of the main game. Which means I will hold off on playing through the base game and just wait for this next year. It's fortunate I had to restart my P5 playthrough and didn't get that far into it again.......lol.

It does suck we have to wait until next year for it to come West. hopefully it will be early 2020.

But this is definitely Day One buy for me. and the fact that it is PS4 exclusive, and that PS5 will be BC with PS4, pretty much ensures that I will be sticking with Team Playstation for this gen and next.

Can't wait to learn more about PS5S tomorrow. wonder if it will be the rumored Switch version or something else entirely.

Well, Persona 5 IS coming to Switch.........sort of.

P5S is Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Stikers. A Musou/Dynasty Warriors type game for PS4 AND Switch.

so.......there's the Persona 5 on Switch. not sure many were expecting that.....haha.

This wasn't exactly what I was expecting either. I was hoping for a fighting game.

Musou games aren't exactly my thing, but since this has P5 characters in it, I might check it out.

Is "Action RPG" how other musou games like Dynasty Warriors or Fire Emblem Warriors are described? from what I've seen of other musou games, the plot/story usually seems rather thin, taking a back seat to the hack n slash gameplay.

maybe with P5 Scramble, there will be greater emphasis on story and characters? If so, that would get me more interested.

Also, I wonder if the roster will only be the P5 cast, or will characters from prior Persona games be included?

musou games tend to have large rosters, yes? With only the PS5 cast, it would seem rather small.

they are adding some new character's from persona 5 R like a new teacher advisor to the phantom thieves. so they could show in persona 5 scramble too. as for the RPG being how they describe musou that's not how i remember things. they are separate genre's. how ever ever since one piece did it with both Dragon quest heroes & Hyrule warrior's entered the scene with fire emblem fallowing them thing's changed slightly but only for those game.

thanks for posting that, zenith. some of those images I hadn't seen yet.

and I wouldn't be surprised if the new girl, Kasumi, gets added to P5S. And if P5S puts more focus on story, character, and RPG elements, that would definitely get me more interested in the game and the genre.

Who knows? maybe P5S will be the game that gets me into musous.

After all, when I was young ( back during the NES and SNES games ), I had little interest in the RPG genre. The turn based combat, HP/MP, stats, experience, etc. all just seemed so weird to me......lol.

it wasn't until Super Mario RPG got me interested in the genre. and that was due in part to the Mario characters. And after that, I played Breath of Fire games and FF VII on PS1. From then on, RPGs became one of my fav genres.

Musous are a tough genre to get into the only reason the one peice dragon quest heroes & hyrul warrior did well both lore of their universe's and the fact that the Enemy MPc's weren't standing there waiting for you to attack. which turned most players / gamer's off the genre. so if this game does what those three did it should be fine. if not....

any way I 'd also look inthe the persona Q games too. almost all the person's from 3-4 meat up with the persona 5 characters. well in 2. i don't know when 12 will ever show up. there so many spin off genre that the can do where they all can inter act. & that fact that they are all from years prior to each other. Alot can be done there. BTW the new index season III english dub is fully up and soon railgun will be too with the new acceleratior Spin off hot on it's heel's . just letting ya know.

yeah, I've been starting to look at that Persona Q2 game. I wonder if there's a chance it will come to the Switch. I'd hate to have to buy a 2DS/3DS just for that game......lol.

but I really do like Persona 5. and I hope the prior Persona games get rereleased and remastered on the current systems.

and thanks for the update about Index and Railgun anime. in truth, I've been kind of out of the anime scene for some time - just haven't had much time or as much interest lately. I had been watching Goblin Slayer and Gran Blue Fantasy, so I need to finish those up. And then I'll check out Index and Railgun.

Persona 5 Royal has new director and producer

Persona-5-Royal-New-Staff_05-07-19.jpg

Persona 5 Royal is directed by Daiki Itoh and produced by Kazuhisa Wada, a preview for a feature in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

Daiki Itoh was the lead confidant planner on Persona 5, as well as the project director of Persona 4 Golden.

Kazuhisa Wada, on the other hand, had no involvement in the original Persona 5, but was a chief designer on Persona 4 Golden and director on Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night.

Katsura Hashino, the director and producer of the original Persona 5, is currently working as director and producer on the upcoming Project Re Fantasy from Atlus development team Studio Zero.

Persona 5 Royal is due out for PlayStation 4 on October 31 in Japan, and in 2020 in the west. Read more about the game here.

Persona 5 Royal third semester volume ‘beyond expectations of Persona 4 Golden players’
P5R-Fami_05-08-19.jpg

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has the first magazine preview of Persona 5 Royal, including an interview with director Daiki Itoh and producer Kazuhisa Wada.

Get the tidbits below.

  • The reason the subtitle is “Royal” is because we wanted to express our enthusiasm to make a gorgeous title.
  • We’re not simply adding new elements. We’re making it easier to earn experience points so you can play at a better tempo.
  • The play assist feature further implements everyone’s voices into the game. It considers your character parameters and confidants, then suggests a destination, which you can move to with the push of a button.
  • We’re making the volume of the newly implemented third semester to go beyond the expectations of those who have experienced the volume of Persona 4 Golden.
  • New character Kasumi increases the perspective and flavor of the story, and is someone who will expose existing characters in a new light. Naturally, she is being tweaked to blend into the story. As you play through the game, you will see a different side of her from the teaser trailer. Kasumi also has a confidant you can level up.
  • New confidant Maruki is an extremely nice adult character.
  • If we had to say “Yes” or “No” to there being new confidants other than Kasumi and Maruki, we would have to say “Yes.” Look forward to more information in the future.
  • If you have save data for Persona 5, you will get some sort of bonus. You will not be able to use the same save data for Persona 5 Royal however.
  • There are 20 new background music tracks.
  • There is a scene where the mysterious new handsome guy character sleeps in the same bed as the protagonist.
Persona 5 Royal is due out for PlayStation 4 on October 31 in Japan, and in 2020 in the west. Read more about the game here.

Thanks, Famitsu and Ryokutya2089.

well, at least that confirms that P5 saves will not transfer to Royal.

which means I can shelve the base game and just wait for the enhanced version with Royal. In a way, I'm glad I messed up on my 1st playthrough and had to start all over.......lol.

but still, I can see how some people will be bummed by that news. especially those who've already sunk a massive amount of time into the 1st game. And I did too. Think I had close to 40 hours on my 1st playthrough. But I don't mind waiting for Royal to start over and experience the game anew.

I am curious by what they mean by "earn experience faster." Is that just for experience in battle? Or does that apply to leveling up your Social Stats and Confidant Levels.

It was those latter areas that messed me up on my 1st playthrough. It takes so painfully long to level up your Social Stats ( which are required to progress certain Confidant stories ).

Usually, the game would let you choose only 1 Social activity at a time, which usually just gives you one point in a Social Stat. Sometimes you can get more, but it's still slow to level up.

And if you choose to do a solo Social activity, then you usually can't do a Confidant activity. And if you choose a Confidant activity, then you usually can only do 1 Confidant per day ( with maybe 1 more at night ). And if you choose to do any kind of Social or Confidant activity, then that usually means you give up the chance to do a Palace/Mementos.

so, it's a very "binary" either this or that system. And that made it kind of a slog to go through.

If you just focus on the main story, as I did on my 1st playthrough, then you may neglect to build up your Social/Confidant levels. But after a certain point, you may have screwed yourself up to pursue the latter part of some Confidant stories because you don't have the right Social Stats.

However, if you focus on maxing out your Social and Confidant levels, then you almost need to turn to one of the many guides online which map out and detail every day for you. Which is fine during the early parts of the game, when there isn't much choice to be had. But once it opens up, following a strict guide feels too micromanaged and then it doesn't feel very fun anymore. You can't really play the story the way you as the player would play. but instead as dictated by some guide.

So, that's one aspect I hope they address in Royal. From the trailer, it seems you can now do group activities. So, hopefully that means you can level up multiple confidants at once. Hopefully it also means you can do multiple activities during a day and also level up your Social stats faster.

and speaking of Persona, I am currently watching the Persona 4 Animation series. and wow!! I'm really enjoying it. I like this cast of characters as much as the PS5 crew.

now, I really hope they do remakes/remasters of Persona 4 and 3 for the PS4. And it makes me more eager for a Persona 5 fighting game, where presumably the characters from P3, 4, and 5 will all come together and meet/clash.

at least now when I play Blazblue Cross Tag, I will understand and care more about the P4 characters in it.

but I really want a new Persona fighting game.

We’ve seen plenty on Persona 5 Royal’s new character Kasumi Yoshizawa, new Confidant Takuto Maruki, and other new features, but Atlus shared a little more with a Q&A to answer common questions from fans.

Q: Are there any carry-over data elements from Persona 5?

A: Persona 5 Royal uses Persona 5’s game system as a base, and has numerous additional elements from the game’s beginning, to new characters and events. Since the original Persona 5’s play experience is different, it will not support carryover save data for things such as parameters, Persona Compendium, and so on.

However, if you do have a save data of Persona 5, then you can receive a bonus that will help out during your play in the early parts of the game.

Q: Will it release on any platforms other than PlayStation 4?

A: There are currently no plans for it.

Q: Will there be a digital version?

A: Yes. Pre-orders are currently available on the PS Store.

Q: Are there any retailer-exclusive bonuses?

A: Currently under preparation. When we’re ready, we plan to reveal all the retailer bonuses on the shopping guide page.

Q: What happens to the DLC purchased for Persona 5?

A: Due to commercial law they’ll require a repurchase of “10 yen a piece” in order to carryover.

*The DLC can be repurchased in this way regardless of whether it was for the PS4 or PS3 version.

With that said, those with Japanese PSN accounts will be able to repurchase the same DLC they got for Persona 5 for 10 yen each, which is about 9 cents in USD. However, keep in mind that this Q&A was made for Japan, where Atlus did the same for bringing Persona 4: Dancing All Night DLC from PS Vita to the PS4 version, so it’ll likely be different for the other regions.

Persona 5 Royal releases in Japan on October 31, 2019 for PlayStation 4. The game releases in the West in 2020. Check our previous report for details on the Straight Flush Edition for Japan.

I never got through the original Persona 5 and I even bought the collector's edition for it. It's free on the psplus collection but I just bought Persona 5 Royal the steelbook edition. I preordered Persona 5 Strikers, but does anyone know if there will be a collector's edition in the west as well?

I still need to finish Royal and a few other games. But I am definitely hyped to played Strikers in the not too distant future. It looks like a lot of fun. Wish it was a sequel to Royal and not just base 5 though.

Same here. I want to play through Royal first before tackling Striker.

And yeah, I wish it included the Royal elements and characters (like Kasumi). Maybe as DLC?

Also wish they had included some way to carry over your saves or romance choices from the 1st game into Striker.
