Superman & Lois General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!)

I have seen people saying this has HBO Max budget backing it, is that true or just nonsense? Because obviously it does look 100x better than anything currently on CW. I know it's suppose to end up on HBO Max after the season is over, which is great. Add more to the DC Hub. I've been watching Static Shock on there. I don't think I watched it as a kid, but I'm enjoying it now.

I wish they actually showed Superman lifting the green car over his head as in the comic cover. On that cover he looks like he's about to either throw it or has caught it. In the show he looks like he's just lifting it up at the end but not above his head.

I have yet to see a legit source on that, and the recent Deadline article about the upcoming partnership between CW and HBO Max on some summer shows actually seems to contradict it, because they suggested that the two hadn’t co-produced anything prior. HBO Max co-producing this would be a big deal and it was never in the trades or anything. I think that rumor came from the fact that they are using a more expensive VFX house that a lot of high end streaming shows use, so an assumption was made, and people ran with it. But right now I suspect that’s just because The CW is spending more on it, because it’s Superman. They probably gave it the same seasonal budget they give shows like The Flash, just applied to a shorter season, yielding higher per-episode budgets. That’s my guess anyway. If anyone wants to prove me wrong and provide some actual evidence of HBO Max co-financing, I’d love to see it, because that would be cool.

I was wondering if they always planned for a shorter series or if Covid interrupted it and they just cut it short. If it was always planned for 13 episodes, but gave it the budget of a season of say,The Flash, that's great.

Because of delays due to COVID, the S&L team were able (I think ) to write all 13 episodes before production began. So in theory, this would make for a tight and cohesive season arc. (Apparently, this is atypical for a network series. Most operate with a make-it-up-as-we-go approach.)

However, just recently the CW ordered 2 additional episodes of S&L — which might mean some filler instead of tight and cohesive. :ninja:

Apparently they had already written all 15 episodes before they were officially commissioned and were completed before majority of filming. Nadira mentioned that they were already thinking 3/4 seasons ahead in terms of storylines.

I just hope that they were given a proper increase in their production's budget to compensate for the two additional episodes.

Those last two episodes will be just standard CW quality. :o

Aw, this is neat:

Wow. That’s pretty cool.

Why wasn't she there for
Martha's funeral?
That would've been the right time to show up.
Melissa arrived in Vancouver just after the new year and had to do the two week quarantine. She wasn’t on set until mid January.

The suit also looks great there, btw. It’s like I said before, in some shots, I can see why they went with the padding they did, and in others, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I’m sure they’ve noticed this too as they’ve actually had to shoot with it, so I’m guessing just like with other CW shows, the suit will be tweaked and upgraded as we go along.

Kent/Danvers Thanksgiving or I riot....

Normally Kara invites everyone over for Thanksgiving. Would that mean that Clark and Lois would also open their home to Chyler, Jimmy's sister, J'onn, Lena, Dreamer (whose real name I've forgotten now), Brainy etc?

It really does look great here. What an amazing shot!

Im sure they'd just be like normal people and have multiple thanksgivings. No reason for them to invite Karas friends.

Yeah, he left The Flash in S5 and you can tell he was ready to leave a couple seasons before that, lol. I hope he stays too, BUT only so long as he acknowledges and works to correct the representation issues Nadria Tucker brought up. A show about Superman should represent his values from the top down, imo, and that means inclusivity. The show just started, so there's still time to course correct on that front, and I hope they do.
I don't think it needs to course correct. I think everyone whose, i guess, supposed to be white, makes sense to be white in the show, and I think everyone else, like that, active personally in the main structure of the Pilot isn't direct white.
