Ridin’ with Biden

Time for me to make a problematic comment and admit I'm a bit "meh" on spaghetti.

It's not that I don't enjoy it, I think my mom just liked making it on a semi-regular basis and I got overexposed to it (and we're not even remotely Italian).

I know what you mean. I'm the same way with gumbo. Too much growing up and I'm not even from the South.

How about lasagna?

I'm making beef jerky today. I have my recipe for it somewhere in the Kitchen thread. It's the best you'll ever eat.

Too bad you don't live in LA. :cwink:

STRAWMAN ALERT!!!

Of course he's not powerless; there are just limits to what he can accomplish.
And many of these "limits" are just excuses. He's so far not wielding his power to its full potential. I know we disagree on that, but it seems to apparent to me. This is the self professed guy who "knows how to get things done in government" and just hasn't for our most pressing issues.

You might be right. I, frankly, am not privy to the details of everything he's done. If the 1.9T package doesn't get approved, I'll agree he didn't get things done. I consider this our most pressing issue with the infrastructure bill close on its heels. Minimum wage is a big deal. Some of his executive orders were pressing needs. The idea that he can miraculously turn everything around in 40 days is, IMO, unrealistic.

Wait, wait, wait. So in the same time frame that Biden used executive powers to bomb a third country in a sovereign state without congressional approval to break international law, his administration admitted MBS killed Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist we invited to live in our country, and their response is to put some sanctions on some low level people in their government and act like it didn't happen and to blame China for it?

But they had to bomb and kill 22 people. Yeah,, sure.

Its bull****. But sadly not too surprising that proffessional diplomats are ready to nuke are relationship with Saudi Arabia. Remember, Kissinger has bipartisan respect. Disappointing, yes. But not surprising.

Sorry, I am catching up. I am reading about the actual response, which also talks about our strategic placement in the Middle East. The place Biden said he wanted to get out of.

Since a president can bomb a place without congressional or judicial approval it shouldn't be surprising that he did that quicker than other things.

Who did we kill?

The American military doesn't get out of places entirely unless its run out of a country by the locals. Something will remain so our strategic placement in the Middle East will always be important.

He can write off student loan debt as well without congressional approval. What's he waiting for?

We killed human beings. When Trump bombed people without congressional approval, he got **** from the Dems.

The current authorized use of military force is bull****. It doesn't help that Congress has ceded all responsiblilty granted by the war powers act.

Trump got **** for unilaterally bombing the second most powerful person in Iran. Its not the same as bombing a terrorist or some low level Syrian fighters that were in random buildings.

We kill a lot of human beings in war. The who what and why of it will determine how I respond to this.

From what I've been able to gather it was members of a third-party (i.e. terrorist) cell supported by Iran in their attempt to continue helping Syria suppress the free action of its citizens. The bombing was in response to Iranian backed forces assaulting a U.S. position in Iraq and killing several Iraqi citizens and at least one U.S. contractor. Obviously not all the info is available on either incident, nor will it be for some time (justifiably).

I.M.O. the response from the POTUS was actually reasonably even handed...by U.S. standards, and seems to play into his stated desire to get Iran back to the table to have a dialogue about the future relationship between our two nations.

Yeah, had this happened under the Trump administration, he would have started a war with Iran already.

I'm relatively pleased with Biden's response to the Amazon organizing campaign. I would have loved it if I had gotten that response from Clinton, Bush, or Obama during the organizing campaigns I worked on. We got nothing. I know I'm jaded by my union background, but I really believe that organized labor provides the strongest bulwark we will get against fascism and the president's words of support were welcome. Having the overt support of the president of the United States means something.

As for Amazon.....the same old BS I've heard from literally every, single employer I've ever run an organizing campaign against.....the old "you won't be able to negotiate directly with your employer anymore". Yeah, dumb ass......that's the point; we'll negotiate collectively. Bunch of bullS***....with a LARGE, BOLD "S".
