The Official Green Lantern Rumors/Speculation Thread - Part 1

So with everything that is going on with race relations and policing, what are the odds a Green Lantern movie/series draws from that, and shows some of the dark underbelly of organized space policing, and efforts to clean it up from the inside? There's often, in modern comics, been sort of an undercurrent of The Guardians being a tad corrupt.
I’m all for it. It’s the elephant in the room and they should 100% address it. The Guardians can represent “the thin blue line” with Ganthet being an exception, and eventually defecting.

The current situation kind of necessitates John’s presence.

I’m embarrassed by how adamant i was that Hal be used. In my defense, I was open to a race change for Hal. I just preferred Hal from a story standpoint. He has all the iconic stories and character development. Not to mention, he has the most personal relationships with the major villains. It wasn’t ever a white vs black thing, Hal has historically just been a better developed character. This obviously could’ve been a symptom of our culture, which caused the white character to get more focus.

I’ve since rethought my position. John should’ve been the GL for the DCEU, with an incapacitated Hal playing a supporting/villainous role.

Who else saw Sonic? I wasn’t crazy about the movie but let’s be real... James Marsden is objectively probably the best option for Hal. He just checks all the boxes. I want Hal to be a supporting character in the next GL franchise, so guys like Tom Cruise are immediately ruled out.

Let’s get John David Washington or Trevante as John with Marsden in a supporting role.

Brainchild. My guy. I concede. I won’t say John is a better character than Hal... but I will say John makes more sense as a protagonist. Stick Hal in the veteran role a la Lethal Weapon and then do the Parallax storyline and you’ve got a solid ass movie series.

The main problem I have with John as the lead is the lack of chemistry with Sinestro. John just doesn’t have a personal conflict with the greatest GL villain, and that is EXTREMELY problematic. I suppose they could invent a conflict if they had a good enough writer but as it stands, Sinestro and John don’t have a personal beef. Not sure how they would deal with that.

I’d like to start with Hal, John and Jessica.

Will DC's Jade make an appearance on HBO's undeveloped Green Lantern series? I am a big fan of Jade, and I created a fanboy video on my YouTube channel called Sean's G-Crossovers so Jade could appear on CW's Stargirl. It would be interesting to see the story of the Star Heart and Jade unfold on top of the main continuity of Green Lantern on HBO.

I wonder how the Snyder Cut going forward just how it will affect the DCEU continuity when it comes to this particular film in general if it even does at all?

Especially now that the Multiverse might be introduced and then Keaton possibly coming back...I wonder how the Corps will be introduced into the DCEU going forward?

Since they are both released on the same platform on HBO max. It would be wise for Snyder and Greg Berlanti to work together. Snyder should cast the actors who would play Hal Jordan or John Stewart. The show was said to have a bigger production and an entirely different vibe from the CW soap opera genre they embody in the arrowverse shows.

I don't think there will be a new Green Lantern movie anytime soon, so this might be the best way to go about it.

Since Marvel has the MCU and MCU is now being streamed on to Disney Plus for some of their mini series...WB is more or less doing the same thing with HBO Max and you can have DCEU mini series streams on there too that directly connect to the DCEU and GL can be the series on HBO Max and then from there you can have other mini series on HBO Max

Just read through the whole thread. Man, why no love for Guy Gardner? :D

I'm currently reading John's run. It would be a missed opportunity if Kyle was introduced but not him. They both work so well together. I think a good way of introducing the human Lanterns should be by pairs because that is the mythos' strong suit. Hal/John, Kyle/Guy, Jessica/Simon. Hal/Stewart should definitely appear first. I also wouldn't be opposed to a redo of the origin. Adapting Johns' Secret Origin would be a good introduction to other colored rings. Sinestro is too meaty of a villain to ignore his fall. The greatest personal dynamic of the GL mythos is Hal/Sinestro bar none. The 2011 movie shouldn't scare WB.

Guy Gardner is better off in the HBO Max TV show, let Hal and John have the big screen.

Yeah. Hal/John on film, Guy/Kyle and Jessica/Simon on TV. All 6 should appear in either medium.

I think WB is testing waters, if this series is received well, then they will move ahead with GL movie plans on big screen.

I was underwhelmed with Washington in Tenet -- and he got upstaged by everyone else. He has presence and charisma but not at his dad's level.

Someone in Sterling K. Brown's range is better for John Stewart. He brings Mahershala Ali vibes to a role like that -- which you need.

I think if WB looks to revive GLC on the big screen, they'll probably spend more time casting Hal than John, ironically. Because there are so many underutilized Black talent that could knock John out of the park.

Eli Goree is still my top pick for John Stewart if they are going for someone slightly younger teaming with a veteran ring slinger Hal Jordan.

Not gonna lie, Snyder’s plans to cast Reynolds and Rhodes as Hal and John sounds pretty dope.

IMO you can’t really beat that. Perfect casting. Charisma, resemblance to the source material, talent, they’ve got it. I hope WB moves forward with those two. Perfect A+ casting.

The Rhodes rumor is total bs. Zack has been out there talking up a storm, he would have talked about it if it got that far.

Snyder's Hal was Mark Wahlberg. He might have briefly considered using Reynolds for The Snyder Cut, but the plan for sequels was Wahlberg as Hal.

I think the Reynolds thing was never more than an idea. But seemed like Stewart was definitely cast and filmed based on what Snyder has said.

I don’t think he is a very good fit for Guy Gardner :(

He's not what I imagined Guy to be, but he is pretty versatile acting-wise. As long as they give him that haircut and dye his hair red (and put on that Baltimore accent), he could be good.

Lol, i kept thinking "what is this guy on about, red hair?" until i realized that for some reason my brain had Kyle Rayners look as Guy Gardner. XD

Wittrock is a good actor, he visually doesnt have the look of Gardner...which i would describe as Bully look, but since we dont know the General look of this, im open for it.

Lets see how this whole thing shapes up first.
