Blade Official Blade General Discussion and Speculation Thread!

The first Blade film had a awesome opening sequence with the Vampire club bloodbath. It would be cool if Marvel's Blade opened with Blade taking down Yardie vampire crime lord Steppin Razor and his gang in a Predator 2 type slaughter.

There’s a leaked concept image I saw on another forum that has the D23 logo on it, but not sure if it’s legit or just fan art? Can’t seem to find it anywhere else, so I’m going to assume it isn’t real. But, it looks cool. He has 3 swords which is a bit odd, but whatever.

I'd be kind of surprised if they have this ready for an October 2022 release especially as we haven't gotten director news. But on the other hand I'd imagine that this will be relatively small scale project for the MCU so I imagine it'll have a shorter turnaround.

They're supposedly getting ready to start filming towards the end of the year. October 2022 isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

It will be interesting to see how Blade eventually connects to the MCU and whether or not his actions in his movie get the attention of an established MCU character. Some of the newer MCU characters have some sort of connection to established MCU characters, but some don't have that connection as of now. As we know, John Walker is in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Technically, Monica Rambeau isn't a new character as she was in Captain Marvel, but she was a kid then and now as an adult, she has connections to Wanda, Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis to go along with Carol Danvers and Nick Fury that she had as a kid. Kate Bishop will appear in Hawkeye, alongside Clint Barton, an established Avenger. I would assume Ms. Marvel will have a surprise appearance from Carol or Monica at the end of her series. Hulk and Abomination are going to appear in She Hulk. I would guess that Riri Williams will have some connection to Tony Stark somehow either through Rhodey (perhaps Rhodey is either her uncle or a friend of her father) or Pepper/Happy.

Blade, Moon Knight and Shang Chi are the three MCU characters I am most interested in seeing how they connect to the rest of the MCU. Blade hasn't started casting and Moon Knight has just started, so we'll see if there will be an established MCU character among those casts.

Doesn’t surprise me - they’re far more into production for Quantumania - so I guess the 11/03/23 is the planned release.

I would like Marvel to distinguish him from the Wesley Snipes version and not have him dress in exactly the same way. The best way to do this would be to go to the source material and have him dress more similar to this:

In a fitting twist, the director search is pitting DC against none other than Marvel. As Warners looks to fill its Superman vacancy, Marvel is on the hunt for a Blade helmer and is combing through the same list. But the question will come down to what kind of filmmaker Bad Robot and Warners want: an up-and-comer who can be backed by Abrams, who knows his way around tentpoles and franchises? Or an established filmmaker like a Barry Jenkins or a Ryan Coogler?

The former list can include Creed II’s Steven Caple Jr., J.D. Dillard, Regina King — who got raves for her drama One Night in Miami — and Shaka King, who is popular at Warners thanks to best picture Oscar nominee Judas and the Black Messiah. Some potential directors have met with both studios for both films, even as one agent said the process was “phenomenally early.” Meanwhile, Coogler may be a nonstarter for either assignment given that he will be occupied with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which releases July 8, 2022.

I think Barry Jenkins is a strong contender - he’s already under contract with Disney, for the Lion King sequel which makes it easier to negotiate. I will definitely check out his Underground Railroad

Regina King is also an actress, so the added benefit would be not only to have her direct Blade, but to give her a role in Blade that could recur in the MCU, like Jon Favreau. He chose not to direct in the MCU anymore after Iron Man 2, but has continued to appear in the MCU.

I think it'll be J.D. Dillard. He fits Marvels M.O.

I would love to see The Hughes Brothers come back to direct Blade.

I wouldn't mind that. It's probably better if people won't really be able to compare it to the previous Blade movies, because I doubt Ali can do fight scenes like Snipes. That's one of the many reasons why the tv show sucked. (no pun intended)

Mahersalah has never had much variations for his haircut - he has a slim face and that’s why he always has short hair

Correct me if I'm wrong but in the comics, Blade isn't a vampire right? He's just a guy who hunts them? The movie invented that he was half vampire?

The movies came up with it, and the comics have changed him to be half vampire.

But Blade already was half vampire in the 1994 Spider-Man cartoon that came out before the movies... his first appearance there was in 1996, and the movie was released in 1998. So I guess Blade being half vampire already was in the comics. Maybe that was a recent change at that time.

Had forgotten about that.

IIRC, he was *sort of* a half vampire prior to the movies. . . but the only real effect of this was a resistance to vampiric hypnosis and the ominous potential that some future event could cause him to transform into a monster. He wasn't meaningfully enhanced by his partial-infection, and his niche was "black british vampire hunting Batman". Which is to say, he didn't have superpowers, he just had obsessive training and skill in all the arts needed to fight vampires and supernatural horrors.

It was the movie that really made him "No, he's just basically a good aligned vampire". Which I find annoying in retrospect, since Marvel already *had* other characters in that niche.

I hope he’ll be a half-vampire like in the Wesley Snipe movies. MA with sharp teeth and red eyes would look badass
