World The official G1 purist thread.

Not trying to restart an old argument but.........

You got the order of this wrong.

The correct order is....
Toys > Comic > Show

I'd say if you wanted to break it down further

Toys > Simon Furman > Bob Budinski > Season 1 > Season 3 (the high points) > Season 2 (most of it)

But you placed Simon Furman before Bob Budinski, and thats backwards.

Simon Furman started his UK TF work wish issue 13.

Bob Budinski was involved far earlier then that.

I thought the list was going by order of what you liked.

I really like the storytelling and darker and more mature themes of season 3/4 Unfortunately the animation quality took a huge decline. More corners were cut and there are tons more animation errors.

For starters, in the Rebirth finale its sort of hard to follow who gets killed or incapacitated or captured. Some characters pop up and then disappear without a trace. I think Rebirth really needed another two episodes and a better budget to fill it out. The other problem I have with Rebirth is that Optimus Prime doesn't really do anything in it. The heroes are Spike, Cerebros, and Fortress Maximus who was barely even in it.

Also what happened to Metroplex after the Hate Plague episodes? Where are the Dinobots? Where is Springer? All of whom were regular and important characters throughout season 3. Grimlock should've said something about the golden age of Cybertron, it would've been funny.

Beast Wars was a good extension of G1 because it sort of had all the good parts of Transformers storytelling and lessened the flaws.

Theres a very logical reason for why Optimus did very little and for why the Spike and others were the focuse of "The Rebirth".

And thats because it was never intended to be the TF finale.

The real finale for the TF cartoon was "The Retuen on Optimus Prime".The show was canceled in many markets at that point.

"The Rebirth" was intended to be a pilot for a Headmasters spin off.

That doesn't really make any sense because Rebirth aired in November and the Return of Optimus Prime aired in February. Not to mention at the end of Rebirth you had Cybertron basically being restored to its former glory and the beginning of the golden age.

What doesnt make sense about it??

The Return of Optimus Prime first aired on Tuesday February 24, 1987

"The Rebirth" first aired on Monday November 9, 1987

Thats 9 months in between. And you must also remember that not every market aired TROOP

Not to mention that there was close to 3 months between "The Face of the Nijika" and TROOP.
Not to mention at the end of Rebirth you had Cybertron basically being restored to its former glory and the beginning of the golden age.
Which was supposed to signal the end of the war for Cybertron.

Thats why Fortress Maximus and the others were being moved to Nebulos, to start the war anew.

What doesn't make sense is how Rebirth was supposed to precede the Return of Optimus Prime. And they aired 9 months apart.

I think you may want to "RE-READ" what was posted.

Not once did I claim that the Rebirth was to precede TRoOP.

I said The Rebirth wasnt intended as a finale, it was intended as a pilot for a new series. It was also intended to be 5 parts, not 3, which nis why it seems so rushed.

Yeah I've never read that Rebirth was a pilot for a new cartoon for Headmasters. Headmasters became a cartoon in Japan, but they never showed the Rebirth episodes.

Actually they did get "the rebirth" but only recently.

Yeah because it takes about two seconds to find it on YouTube or just about any Transformers episode these days.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you there!!! Transformers G1 are always the BEST!!!!!!

As I grew up with the original Transformers cartoon, it will always be the definitive story..

So much so that when I see Grimlock was orignally from Cybertron in other mediums or cartoons I question it... The original cartoon's animation for the time was absolutley amazing even with the errors and I really have never been a fan of CG animation. So things like Beast Wars no matter how good the stroies were I just couldn't watch it.

It was also different to me att he time as Superman and Batman even He-man were singular characters but Transformers had an army of god and bad guys to love with each very different personalities and abilities. Some of the themes originated from Transformers (to my knowledge) were re-used in aother series.

Such as Starsscream always trying to overhtrow Megatron. This popped up with Cobra Commander in GI Joe and with Glove in Bionic Six to name a couple. Yes it was a toy parade but I loved it and at 32 years of age still do. The original design concepts have always been the best for me and the Masterpeice collection just show how much fans still love these characters.

August 8, 2011 is the 25 Anniversary of the release of Transformers the Movie.

I feel old!

ANY factual chance that they will rediscover the original 16mm masters of the G1 cartoon, making a proper and real HD transfer? That's my big Cybertronian dream, guys.

By the way, The G1 cartoon as well as the early issues of the Marvel comic book are pure gold, and the milestone of the entire franchise. So yes, label me as a G1 purist.

That'd be nice, but haven't heard about the masters and where they could be. I wonder if they are sitting in a filing cabinet or some such.
