MICHAEL KEATON RETURNS (or at least in discussion) AS BATMAN

Maybe Bale's BATMAN has to go back in action when Selina is killed by the Joaquin Phoenix JOKER.
Along the way he mixes it up with the Colin Farrell PENGUIN, Jim Carey RIDDLER, and finds romance again with the Lee Meriwether CATWOMAN.

:D ;) :p

Well, Lee Meriwether is still a damn fine looking woman! :yay:

Man, I'm seeing far too much noise about Bale coming back for The Flash. Scoopers and others playing the same type of game they did before Keaton was announced as ''in talks''. Even Jett (Batman-on-Film) posted some cryptic tweets. There's no smoke without fire and something definitely seems to be up.

I'm worried we'll see a Variety article dropping in the next two weeks; ''Keaton exits The Flash; Bale in talks to replace''. Although Bale has a pretty stacked year ahead of him, so filming would probably have to be pushed to next year if he does say yes.

If a 78 year old Harrison Ford can fly over to England for Indiana Jones 5 all Summer, then hopefully Keaton's COVID fears can be assauged by WB.

I doubt they would push filming back a year as they're too far in pre-production and almost ready to start shooting in the next couple of weeks. Also, it makes no sense to replace Keaton in order to keep things going, and still delay it for so long, if covid fears are his only issue. But I suspect it's not.

Although it's unlikely, if Christopher Nolan was attached to this, even as a producer then I think Bale would return.

Imagine a Nolan directed Flashpoint movie...

At least we've got Batman 89 coming - a true hypothetical 'third Burton/Keaton movie', albiet in comic book form

We're not being sent home empty-handed, he says with a sigh

I hope so. Although if that's intended to bridge the gap between Returns and the Flash movie, I hope they don't cancel it if Keaton bails.

They can't just replace Keaton with Bale so easily, considering all the prep (Bat-suit, Batmobile, Production Design) would have been tailored for the former.

Bale would need costume fittings and new sets would have to be built. The whole script would likely need a page one re-write. There's no way that would be ready in a few weeks.

Plus, Bale will be busy with Thor for the foreseeable and has locked The Pale Blue Eye to shoot this fall. The work and press over the next year and a half would be crazy even for him.

Why do we think it's a replacement? I'd guess it's just a cameo from Bale with Keaton as main support.

So our best bet is Clooney? or a Robin (O'Donnell or JGL)

Surely they can just reuse some props and sets?

Must be lying in storage somewhere. Re-writing the script for Bale would be much easier.

So when the filming begins ? And when we're going to know if Keaton is coming back or not ?

Apparently, the movie begins shooting on April 26th... just two weeks away.

Who knows when Keaton is due to be on the set. His current project (Hulu's Dopesick) is scheduled to film until sometime in May. I think, good news or bad, Keaton's involvement will need to be clarified for WB in the next couple of weeks.

Even though Bale is the Batman I grew up with and my favourite, Keaton feels like he would fit way stronger for the project imo. Would be fascinating to see how his Batman has changed since Returns.

Also side note: I don't want Pattinson crossing over with heroes BUT I have this sort of cheesy idea that I like of a tiny post-credits Flash scene where Flash appears to Pattinson's cave to drop off a letter (ala Flashpoint - with mentions of mistakes to avoid) from Affleck Bruce (I'm sure Batfleck gets told in the Flash about the multiverse). Could be a nice passing of the torch meta thing that also has a thematic purpose for Batfleck's character. You don't even have to reveal what the letter says and I'm talking like 1-2 minutes and Flash out. I don't want any shared universe shenanigans in the Reeves trilogy itself though. I just think it's an interesting opportunity to end Affleck's run in a heartwarming way while ushering in Pattinson for audiences and having fun with the multiverse idea visually. The BvS scene where Flash appears is a bit bizarre but I do like the visual of it happening. If The Batman is a hit a tiny cameo in a post-credits scene of Flash that doesn't impact anything could be fun for audiences.

Anyways, I'm excited to see Keaton and I'm sure Flash will at the very least witness some footage of TDK, The Batman, etc for a couple seconds when seeing different universes if that happens. Easy way for fan service with minimal effort.

This is all very true. I think if you consider all of that, it would seem to favor Bale's involvement being more of an additional role rather than a co-starring role. But still, the fact that we're now talking about his involvement as more of a likelihood is absolutely bonkers.

I kind of need a minute to process my feelings here, haha.

Also...as always when it comes to movie scoop news, there's a lot going on behind the scenes we don't know. For all we know, Keaton is getting cold feet and they're bringing Bale to the negotiation table maybe as a play to make Keaton want it again. "Oh you don't want to do it anymore? No probs, we'll just get our most successful Batman of all time, who is also one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation."

Could be a bit of a poker game going on here. But I have no idea of course, just one possibility. We'll just have to see how this pans out.

Or... do we think the multiple Batmen angle is giving Keaton cold feet? Sharing the spotlight with Affleck and Bale might not be all that interesting for him.

Honestly, I'm more apprehensive about Bale returning than Keaton. Bale's Batman had a clear beginning, middle and end, all guided under one director's singular vision.

Having him come back for another adventure without Nolan's involvement is risky.

Unless Flash goes back during that one year gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight?

But yeah, I get what you’re saying. If anything I think it would be cool to see Joseph Gordon Levitt reappear as Nightwing/Robin. Get a tease of what came after Dark Knight Rises

I agree. On one hand there is part me saying screw it, "let's get nuts."

But on the other hand, yeah, I don't know. There is also a large part of me that says if we're ever going to see Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman again, I'd want it to be under more fitting circumstances. When the nostalgia could hit as hard as it would for Keaton coming back now. And if there was a story worth telling that absolutely needed him.

As far as we know this movie was fully set to move forward without Bale. Something about him just being added on late in the game doesn't quite sit right.

The other question is what about the future? Keaton was rumoured to appear in more films in the DCEU and practically replace Affleck as its Batman. It was reported that he was to be a Nick Fury type of character for multiple entries, one of which is the Batgirl movie that's in development. What does it mean for those plans if he quits?
