Tyler Hoechlin is Clark Kent/Superman

Random, but it's been bugging me for the last week or so that Tyler's voice (especially when he's doing soft narration like the opening of the pilot) kinda reminds me of someone else, and it didn't click 'til tonight that the person I was thinking of was Matt Bomer. Which then cracked me up because he also voiced Superman. :hehe:

Oh damn yeah haha I thought he reminded me of someone too especially when he said “and boy there sure were lots of them” and you’re right it’s Bomer.

If Superman gets his powers and strength entirely from the sun, that would imply that he could potentially be very skinny or overweight and still have the same strength. So his muscularity doesn't come naturally but must be something he's worked at while living as a human on Earth. So what has prompted Clark to lift weights and do some bodybuilding? And when did he do this? In college? We should get scenes of him working out while on the farm. Presumably the more weights he's lifted as Clark, the stronger he would be proportionately when it comes to Superman feats (a bit like She-Hulk).

Rewatching the first encounter between Lois and Clark at the Daily Planet its definitely a unique take in which Tyler plays it straight with a bit of bumbling in his portrayal that is very remincent to Superman: The Movie. Yet he shows competence and fortitude.

Don't know if it's just me, but it isn't David Banner vibes I'm getting from those two manips. More like Hoechlin's better-known TV role: Derek Hale.

Superman's physique has been queried for years, as in, why does he need to be that muscular if his strength comes from the sun.

I always thought that the explanation was that that the sun doesn't directly make him powerful; it nourishes his cells, which are able to absorb the solar energy and transform it into something his body can use. Combined with the advanced physiology of a race which is thousands of years more advanced than us (and who likely would have had genetics/science eliminating things like sickness and obesity etc), that energy is intended to make him strong and durable - stronger muscles, better immune system, etc.

I like the idea that Kryptonians were much like humans once, but found a way to alter their genetic makeup so that their bodies could absorb solar energy - less reliance on food and farming, better for space travel, etc. But they had never travelled beyond the red sun of their own solar system. On Earth, with a yellow sun and 30yrs worth of absorption, Superman's body was basically supercharged hence all his powers.

His father Jor-El in this show isn't muscular. Neither was Marlon Brando nor Julian Sands. That means they're not naturally muscular whether they do any exercise or weights or not. So the fact that Clark is muscular must be to do with him having put in the work while living as a human, whether that was to do with lots of work on the farm or from weight training. But just doing farm work in itself isn't going to make you muscular and defined. So it must mean that he specifically did some weights.

So that still begs the question what prompted Clark to lift weights. Just for the sake of it like how every other human does that?

Because even if he never did that but were fat or skinny, he'd still have super strength.

My point was that if the solar power enhances muscle strength (and the immune system and many other things) then it Clark's case it's going to be totally exaggerated a millionfold by the yellow sun of Earth - hence increased muscle size etc. Jor-El would not have experienced this in the same way.

As building muscle requires hypertrophy and Clark has been pretty much super-strong and durable from a young age, I can't see how working on the farm would have helped him gain any mass - there's not much that would take much effort for him to even lift. Even in adulthood, it's hard to imagine what type of thing Superman could powerlift to actually sustain muscle damage.

That picture looks good, but I still think the high collar works better for Tyler's frame and build. Makes him look a bit bigger.

Dear God, it looks disgusting. I once thought the same about doughnut chicken sandwiches though, so it's probably amazing.

I've had it, it looks disgusting, but it was delicious, and ridiculously rich. That said, like pretty much my entire family, I can eat just about anything if chocolate is involved, so I might not be the best judge of flavor.
