Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Jesus when was the last time you enjoyed something purely for the entertainment value
AGAIN - "woke-ness" has NOTHING to do with enjoying a movie or what its entertainment value is. It - ideally - shouldn't even need to be considered by viewers if it was taken care of in the production process. If Indiana Jones doesn't give an un-questioned glorification of grave-robbing, then we won't need to have a discussion. If James Bond doesn't sexually assault women, then we won't need to have a discussion. etc... etc... etc...

Lol, seriously. And it would just be a repeat of Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls. Speaking of, wonder if Mutt or Marion will make an appearance. Shia’s potential involvement is up in the air considering all the personal issues he’s got going on

Anyway, I can see Phoebe playing a relative to Marcus Brody. Granddaughter perhaps?
Yeah, that makes sense. I’d be fine with that.

Man, this thread has gone downhill

Why can’t people just enjoy movies? Or if you don’t like the movie, then don’t watch it again! Why go on Twitter and start going on a rant why X movie is problematic?

Must....score.....kudos....

Don’t have an issue with Phoebe whatsoever and I don’t subscribe to the idea that if Spielberg and Lucas aren’t involved then the movie will suck because clearly that didn’t stop Temple of Doom or Kingdom of Crystal Skull.

Indiana Jones does not need to be a woke movie. It shouldn’t reinforce negative stereotypes but there shouldn’t be forced social commentary just to be “relevant”. I want escapism and watching Nazis getting punched.

Which begs the question of who the bad guys are going to be in this film. Using the Soviets in Crystal Skull was a good idea in theory but did not pan out in execution. I almost hope they don't go for an obvious global power like Nazis or the USSR but do something more niche and left-field like in Temple of Doom.

Ahem.

Indiana Jones and the Rise of Woodstock

“Hippies! I hate these guys.”

Literally no one did that. You know what did happen? Complaining about another actress being cast in an existing franchise by a bunch of men and then complaints about the "woke mob" attacking a movie franchise that never actually happened.

It is absolutely amazing to ask the question, "why can't people just enjoy movies". I enjoy movies all the time. I enjoy Baby Driver with the well known serial sexual assaulter Kevin Spacey. I enjoy From Russia With Love with Sean Connery, a known proponent for physical abuse against women. I enjoy the entire Harry Potter franchise given to the world by the horrible transphobic human being known as JK Rowling. I can somehow enjoy all those things while not freaking out anytime anyone ever acknowledges them.

If you can't enjoy something because people bring up theoretically problematic issues with the material or people involved, the issues isn't with those that bring it up. Human beings can multitask. They can care about issues and enjoy fictional material all the time, even at the same time. Those that get upset at the conversation they seemingly don't want to acknowledge about something they may enjoy. That's immaturity.

And considering this is 2021, we just lived through Trump and are still living through a pandemic in an extremely bigoted country, it is amazing to me how anyone could get crap for caring. And remember, just because you don't care about something, doesn't mean others don't.

Lol, ok there guy

Sheesh, this thread......

Not gunna lie, I rolled my eyes at the casting, assuming the cliche plot/characters it may fall into.

Then I actually saw her work, she has a real neck at writing and conveying real women... not woke, not sjw, not Karen's, just women we all encounter at some point.

She has wit and humour not too dissimilar from Indy/Harrison.. my gut feeling, she has personal links to Indy and will be rescuing him, helping him out on/of a sticky situation.

Indy is old, Harrison is even older... let's be realistic.

Sir Patrick Stewart in Logan was younger than what Harrison is now and he was easily portrayed as old and was used as such. We are not going to see from Harrison what we saw before. Heck, you watch his interviews now, he can just about answer questions - not for any other reason than he is rusty.

Indie being the treasured relic to find is a fitting end, I would say.

Indiana Jones isn't Professor X. He's the protagonist/hero of the movies and should be treated as the protagonist/hero of this movie as well.

Good luck with that.... show me an actor, late 70's that is the protagonist/hero in a major studio movie.

Let's compare something for a minute.
Clint 78 yrs at time - Gran Torino - $270 mil on a $33 mil budget
Harrison 65 yrs at time - KOTCS - $790 mil on a $150 budget

So now, Harrison 78, let's see how they move forward with it.

Just about answer questions?

For one, Ford has always hated interviews, for two just because he’s old doesn’t mean he’s senile.

I find it quite amusing you saying this considering that photo from a few days back where Harrison was shown to be in incredibly good shape.

Ford will not be a problem. He showed up for Indy last time, it was the material that failed him. But I do hope they play into his age here. One of the defining characteristics of the character was that he was still human despite all the death-defying acts. He could get beaten up, bleed, and at times lose. That was a major problem with Crystal Skulls; even though he was elderly he seemed even more indestructible than he did before, exemplified by the infamous fridge scene. I don't think Mangold will make that same mistake.

I wonder how Ford is after that plane crash from a few years ago. I recall an article that he hurt his leg or something.

Yeah, Harrison has always been pretty awkward with interviews

I’ve always liked his interviews with Conan though. He seems way more relaxed & comfortable around him
