Fantastic Four General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

Yeah their origin was only 5 pages of the first issue. It was just to quickly explain how they got their powers, that's it.

The fact that two films focused on 5 pages in a comic is insane to me.

Marvel just released a new F4 figure line by Mezco. How do yall feel about the MCU uniforms looking like this? I find that Marvel tend to telegraph what direction they are leaning towards when it comes to upcoming projects via recent costume changes in comics or figurines. I am really digging the trenchcoat look for Ben

I think those costumes would look great. I'd want that colour scheme for their first costumes rather than black and white. We only saw a more spandex-like version of these in the Story films but the 4 was only a small badge on their breast pocket rather than right in the middle.

For the Thing, they just need to copy any of these action figures that get him right. The versions we've had of him on film always have looked incorrect.

For the teams powers I hope the way Marvel displays their powers are as anywhere near as creative as these right here!

I kind of think Reed enlarging his fists would be cool to see if handled right on film.

I've advocated this before many times, but how to do a good origin story for the FF? Don't put the origin in the first movie, make the *entire* movie their origin. Which is to say, they don' fly up in a prototype space craft, get powers, crash, and then next act of movie on Earth. They go up in prototype space craft *to go somewhere and do something*, get powers en route, and then. . . they arrive, and continue with their original plan, adapting along the way to having suddenly got powers. They only actually go back to Earth at either the end of Act 3 or the Epilogue, depending on how exactly you design the plot. The gaining of powers isn't a fundamental transformative event, in that they weren't "normal" people beforehand and don't want to be "normal" afterwards.

So, for a quick and dirty plot outline:

Prologue: A few quick flashback scenes giving some grounding for who the main heroes were and where they came from. In the present, a strange alien ship/structure is spotted just outside the solar system.

Act 1: Reed Richards, who is designing and testing a prototype human-built FTL space ship, finds out about the Mysterious Space Structure, and ends up lead on investigating it, since he is currently the foremost scientific mind available and also his space ship would be the perfect/only available way to actually check it out. Reed puts together a team to go with, consisting of the rest of the heroic cast. They go, and either the first full power usage of the engines or something about the MSS causes them to mutate, thus arriving with strange powers and a disabled ship.

Act 2: The team investigate the space structure, while learning and adjusting to the new powers they just gained, and also trying to repair the space ship so they can get home. This leads to them discovering the mystery of what this structure is, who built it and what it does, etc. Unfortunately, the forces within/behind the MSS pose a threat to Earth, and before they can finish repairing their ship, the heroes suffer a setback ( capture or destruction of their ship, say ).

Act 3: Faced with this set back, the heroes rally, taking advantage specifically of their new powers to overcome the setback. Now racing against the clock, they work together to save the world from the looming threat, via a combination of courage, knowledge, and diplomacy. They succeed, and in doing so arrive home having both learned new things on behalf of humanity and also publicly saved the day.

Epilogue: Some brief slice of life shots of the team and how they've adapted to being celebrity superheroes. Mostly its not a huge change, with an emphasis on how this is culturally kind of normal now. Also, insert stinger teaser of Dr Doom here.

There you go. Plenty of room to pick exactly what kind of main threat/big bad you want, plenty of space to fit your desired specific details about each character and their personal arc.

not bad. i visualized an MCU type of Lost In Space

LOKI spoilers

Turns out the Timekeepers were not the real villains. Might be setting up Kang instead...we will see 2 episodes remaining

The cgi trailers for Future Fight looks amazing... but then it cuts to the gameplay.

It may seem odd to say, but I prefer this to nothing.

At least Feige is talking about and acknowledging the FF.
It’s certainly better than the fallout of Fan4stic where there was no light in the tunnel. We should at least get writers and a release date confirmed this year. Also, Watts will do press for No Way Home this fall, and he’ll likely spill more details about his(and by extension Feige’s) vision for the F4 then. Also, assuming they just don’t call it ‘Fantastic Four’ again I think Feige could also potentially announce the film’s subtitle by the end of this year.

We likely won’t have a cast until early-to-mid 2022 at the earliest. That is, unless, Marvel wants to introduce the 4 in a show or movie before their own solo. Which, I don’t think will happen. I think Marvel will likely want the 4 to be introduced in their own movie as a team like Guardians were before they appear in crossover movies. But we shouldn’t at least get a hint or foreshadow of them prior to their first appearance in the MCU.

One thing Feige has consistently done is avoided letting things get ahead of themselves. Right now, he wants the focus to be on Black Widow. He doesn’t want people distracted by projects that are years away.

I get it.

We want information, and things are probably happening behind the scenes, and Fiege would probably love to say “Wait until you guys see this!”, but he’s disciplined and doesn’t want to say much more than: “Buy your Black Widow tickets now!”.

Marvel will be tight lipped going into the future. The Mandalorian changed all that. Feige noticed how not leaking anything or hinting at anything can be much more impactful on the fanbase. Baby Yoda and Luke Skywalker reveals practically broke the internet. I expect we will get all our reveals in post credits scenes moving forward and whatever they decide to show in their upcoming releases. I can see Marvel took this to heart with their Disney+ shows - zero casting news and then BOOM - Julia Louis Dreyfus as Madame Hydra. BOOM - Evan Peters as "Quicksilver". BOOM - Doctor Doom, Reed Richards, etc. not only mentioned but revealed on screen for the first time on the big screen - not leaked. Could break the internet too.

All good points, but part of this equation isn’t just keeping tight-lipped but also giving us Luke Skywalker, and I think, so far, Marvel has fallen short on giving us what we want.

There are 1000 things Marvel could have easily dropped into WandaVision or Falcon and Winter Soldier that would have gotten fans like us excited.

Evan Peters seemed like a big deal, but then… no, he’s not quicksilver, just a stoner. Luke Skywalker was Luke Skywalker, they didn’t reveal him to be something much more boring.

Now everybody is looking forward to a potential Kang reveal in Loki, but if things go like they have been, there’s a good chance that just won’t be happening.

Mandalorian under-promised and over-delivered, but Marvel has been doing the opposite.

I like what you’re saying, but so far Marvel hasn’t made an effort to give us what we want (at least in their Disney+ shows) but I hope they’ll recognize the value in dropping these things in and make an effort to give us more going forward.

…and the worst part is some of the actors and show-runners have been making a joke of it: “Can you believe the things these crazy fans thought might happen?”

They need to listen to their customers regarding what they want and start giving them those things rather than mocking their customers for wanting the wrong things.

So new rumor (unsurprisingly) says that they're doing an open casting call for the Fantastic Four, regardless of race. And of course, certain corners of the internet are... not taking it well. But I'm mostly disappointed if this is true because they also say they want a pretty young cast - 20's-early 30's, which rules out most of my favorite picks :(

I need William Jackson Harper in the MCU, goshdarnnit! :argh:

whatever happens i hope they at least let the Krasinskis do a screen test

I wouldn't mind some unknowns/ lesser knowns in the roles

It’s interesting that John seems to be lobbying for the part while Emily is turning her nose up at it.

For me, John is about a 7 out of 10 for Reed - good, not great.

Emily is a 4 out of 10 for Sue.

If I were Emily Blunt I'd probably turn my nose up at it too. Getting constantly asked about it entirely because nerds on the internet are deadset on one fancasting has gotta be tiresome.

Pleasantly surprised to see them including the Thing among the big MCU heavy hitters on general brand images.
