Sony's Jim Ryan 'Upset' About PS5 Scalpers and Bot Situation

Well selling the ps5 not online only and not alerting everyone everytime there's a new stock would make a difference. Their way of selling these ps5s would only lead people to racing online unless they come up with a solution or release ps6 neXt.

I really can't take seriously this Jim Ryan when their company has yet to make any move to prevent scalpers from getting the ps5s. Scalpers must be cheering when they found out the supply is limited until neXt year...

Instead of For the Gamers it can be For the Scalpers!

Sony Hosting PS5 Showcase in Early July – Report

July 8.

The rest of the year has NO new Ps5 eXclusives, unless Sony finally gives an actual release date to Forbidden West (but I'm already eXpecting that to be delayed to 2022). So perhaps maybe some surprise third party games (that haven't been revealed yet) for the last four months of 2021? And then more Ps5 eXclusives for 2022/23? A PSVR2 hardware reveal?

This is pretty funny

Sadly how it goes, if you even get that far.
I still can't believe that I was lucky enough to get one when Target dropped some for in-store pickup only three months ago but I know the pain of waiting for the multiple Wal-Mart drops that ended in nothing. But there is hope. My best advice would be to follow as many PS5 Stock Alert accounts on Twitter as you can. It's how I did it. I have to assume that Sony will make the PS5 more available in stores soon enough since that was mainly a pandemic precaution.

that's good advice but I already have a ps5. I managed to buy one in October and had to wait a little over 7 months for it to be sent

I want to know about that ssd update we were supposed to get

What ssd update? Is it simply more memory space or can you essentially upgrade the performance? Not that current games need it, but later games on ps5 maybe

Btw, I started playing the new ps5 Ratchet & Clank and I was surprised that the console was totally silent. I was getting some noise with Miles Morales for an unknown reason. but with this one honestly nothing

The SSD expansion slot is meant to be used to increase storage space. There isn't anything out there (yet) that can beat the performance of the PS5 storage because it's not just about pure reading speed but also things like amount of priority channels, a dedicated decoding chip, etc. The advantages of designing a dedicated gaming console instead of just building a general computer. You need an SSD with clearly higher reading speed than the one in the PS5 to match it and that only came out after the PS5 was released.

Unfortunately it seems like they've run into other issues as it's taken quite a while to get it going in practice.

I would prefer them to acquire new studios, as that would meant they are acting more competitive to Microsoft and more eXclusives = more choices. I feel like Sony has the lead in this new gen (as eXpected). I just don't see XboX catching up to the ps5 when it comes to European and Asian markets in this generation. I'm also pretty confident that they have their eXclusives lined up for the neXt 5 to 6 years. But if they acquired a studio as big as Bethesda, that could be a big blow to Microsoft. I think Sony feels a bit too comfortable and I would hate to see them lose their lead eventually in the future. With plenty of rumours of Microsoft acquiring studios like IO, Rocksteady, Avalanche and Neatherrealm in the future. Its a bit concerning and I question myself, should I buy a XboX eventually. PlayStation should counteract this.

Also porting games like Days Gone, Horizon and Uncharted to PC, isn't eXactly a good move imo. They should be encouraging people who only own a pc and xboX to get a Playstation, not the other way around by giving them an option to play ps games without a playstation.

I agree that Sony shouldn't make a habit out of giving away too many of their exclusives but I also look at it from this angle:

Days Gone wasn't a big hit for them and they aren't moving forward with a sequel. Nobody ever bought a PS4/PS5 just to play Days Gone so they can afford to lose that as an exclusive.

Horizon is popular enough, but it's not quite on the level of Uncharted (at its peak) or God of War, at least not yet. As long as there's a 3-4 year console exclusivity window before it goes to PC like they did with Zero Dawn I think they'll be fine.

As for Uncharted, the franchise is more or less dormant. It's been five years since 4 came out so I don't see the big issue with porting it to the PC. It's the best selling PS4 game after GTA V so it made its money. Everyone who really wanted to play it has already done so, which is why I don't see the harm in porting it so PC gamers who otherwise wouldn't have touched it have a chance to check it out for themselves. If they do another spinoff featuring Chloe and Nadine/Sam or a prequel with Nathan, any new games would more than likely go to Playstation first before PC.

If they start porting the likes of Spider-Man and God of War to PC, then it'll be a bit more concerning.

I gave them a pass for Death Stranding because it wasn't eXactly a 1st party game... Kojima Productions isn't owned by Sony and I gave them a pass for Horizon because I thought it was to entice pc players to buy a ps5 when Forbidden West comes out. But Days Gone isn't getting a sequel so as Uncharted 4. To me, it is looking like a habit, a habit that they will continue from now on. They also opened a Steam page....now people might have this mindset of "Sony is now releasing their games to pc, I might as well wait for Forbidden West, Returnal, etc to come out in PC" someday rather than to buy a ps5. Long term it is just not good. Unless they churn out 200 ps5 eXclusives.

Ps4 has at least 70 eXclusives but I only have 16 to twenty of those and they are the big ps games, and 5 of those aren't eXclusive anymore. And if they churn more of the big eXclusives, I don't know how they could persuade the pc/xboX players more to go get a ps5. Its also weird for me seeing the cover of Death Stranding, Zero Dawn, Detroit, Days Gone and Uncharted 4 now with the "only on Playstation" label.

Ha, what a place to start. You might be the only person in the world who has only 1 platinum and it happens to be a Souls game lol.
Haha!! I'll wear that badge of honor with pride!! :)

I didn’t know this was a thing but Sony is sending out random Invites to buy a PS5. Make sure you guys have your accounts selected to receive promotional opportunities if you want a PS5 but haven’t had luck getting one. Looks like the next date is the 6/23. I actually got picked lol even though I already have one.

Hmm. I don't think its random. They must have looked at psn and selected accounts who spent a lot of money buying games that would likely buy a ps5 if given a reservation, unless you aren't in that group.

If that was true they would’ve skipped me as I don’t buy a lot of games.

Sony is inviting PS5 owners to buy another PS5 | GamesRadar+

As shared on Twitter by game-stuff buying expert Wario64, and with a number of Reddit commenters separately joining in, the PS5 purchase invitations seem to be rolling out without regard for whether you've already bought a system through the PlayStation Direct program.
