The E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) thread

Oh, I'm sure they will. Just kind of odd they left out probably their biggest game of that time period. I mean, they just had a bit of a direct about Mario Golf a few weeks ago.

Didn't that game just come out? Also, the gag in that trailer wasn't exactly encouraging either.

No way BOTW2 makes 2022.

Why because they said targeting 2022 instead of saying like q1 2022 or something? Because they didnt show game play? I mean end of 2022 is still a long long way off. What if we see a lot of game play later this year towards the end of the year? If its not 2022 and is 2023 man 6 years or so for a game reusing assest from the first game looks really really bad and to think I thought this was going to be a late 2020/early 2021 game a while back lol.

Yeah, the first game has been out. This is essentially an announcement that they got the greenlight to start on the sequel. So, 3-5 years out.

The original yeah. This game won’t be out for years as Obsidian have a ton of projects on the go. They’re being straight up about it.

Then they shouldn't have announced it yet.

Not everyone views these things in the same way. For me when a game is announced it improves my life from that moment for years of fun speculation (the only reason I joined the Hype) until I get it. I find the usual Bethesda method of radio silence until release quite boring. Also that was a fun announcement. If you’re a fan of a particular series it’s great to get confirmation that another game is at least be in the pipeline. I wish I could have got that for Killer Instinct for eg, even if they said it was many years away.

My thing about that is that sometimes we could be going years of radio silence from an announcement, OR the game could just totally die on the vine during that time. It has happened.

Yeah, it's super-frustrating if after all that time and anticipation the game doesn't end up getting made. And you're right, I think most people would agree with you rather than me on this. Microsoft announced a bunch of titles last year that I'm very much interested in that we saw nothing of at this E3 (part of the backlash against CGI trailers). Obviously COVID didn't help. I was just highlighting that there are some of us out there who want announcements as early as possible so we can spend years speculating and discussing it with other fans, which might not be obvious. :cwink:

I can't believe Microsoft bought both the Fallout guys and the Fallout New Vegas guys. It's like buying out pepsi and coke at the same time. They can have Bethesda. I'm gonna miss Obsidian though (or buy a PC somewhen)

Ha, the original Fallout guys too (InXile).

I still don't see what purpose E3 actually served this year.

Well some publishers used it to announce games or debut new footage. Microsoft and Nintendo could have done it on their own through a livestream like they did last year, but I guess "E3" as a brand was/is valuable to them.

I thought the entire event was meh but I don't think any harm was done.

I think it’s nice to enjoy the anticipation, it’s a lot more exciting than someone just dropping a link on YouTube

I think there is a balance. Announcing that a game just got greenlit is going to cause a lot of impatience. Look at Metroid Prime 4, Skate 4, and likely Bayonetta 3. And good lord, they should never have mentioned Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The few times Nintendo announces a game a year+ in the future is the most annoying ones.

Nintendo would've been better off waiting to announce Breath of the Wild 2 this year.

Even last year would have been better.

I was watching some timeline stuff, and it seems the reason they revealed it when they did, is because they started hiring right after they announced it. I guess they wouldn't have been able to keep it a secret.

I think the idea was to have it out for the 35th anniversary. Then COVID struck. I don't blame them.

I mean, we constantly know when companies are making stuff. Even a good idea on it is. (RIP mystery Rare project before they had to save Metroid Prime)
