X-Men - Part 8

Rushed? I feel the opposite as that arc dragged. We've been dealing with it for like 5 issues and its STILL not resolved. I dont think this was rushed at all and COVID didnt have an impact on it as the story
You have the Morrigan's initial attack on the team, where almost all of them are killed off screen in just a couple pages. And then once they finally figure out what's going on, they cram invading the Morrigan's mind, rescuing Shatterstar AND the showdown between Shatterstar and the Morrigan all into one issue.

I definitely experienced the arc way differently from you, I guess. But either way, I just hope that Eye-Boy, the Twins, Daken and Prodigy find good homes after this whole trial thing. I really loved this line-up.

Got this and last weeks books.

New Mutants was oddly delayed at my store. But it was good. Feels a bit like it is exploring similar issues as Way of X, so could be a good companion series to it. I did like James's talk with Gabi.

Hellions was perfect. Probably going to be the best of the Hellfire Gala issues. I was laughing so much. Between Nanny following Sinister around to tell everyone about Sinister, then her getting drunk and attempting to shank him, and the Cuckoo gossip, this was a great issue. The little bit between Alex, Magneto, and Lorna was fun. At times I forget that Lorna and Alex were together for a long time. Would have liked Wild Child and Daken to actually throw down. Such a great issue, without the weird cameos the artists seem to be throwing in my other gala issues. A crime the other issues don't have Cuckoo gossip data pages.

Excalibur at least progressed some Excalibur plot. Not a huge fan of how Howard seems to be throwing her brexit issues into the book. It just feels weird. I do look forward to seeing how Wisdom reacts to resurrection. His reaction to first coming to Krakoa was great, looking forward to him coming out of an egg. Nice appearances from Rachel and Kurt, kind of wish they had gotten Kitty in as well to finish off OG Excalibur appearances. I hope Way of X explains how Kurt knows about Meggan's pregnancy.

I just don't know what X-men was. Just letting the artists have fun? The Namor conversation was good, but the rest seemed to drag the X-men reveal, though the Laura panel was great. I guess it hinted at Planet Sized, but they were awfully vague in the issue. More Sinister Secrets is fun.

Gerry Dugan makes a good 'first' impression taking over the flagship with Planet-Sized. His Cable issues were alright, and Marauders had a bit of a dip, but is overall pretty good as well. Curious to see what he'll do with his X-Men run. Not gonna lie, I really like what Hickman has done with the franchise, but it was about time we'd get a different writer focusing on an actual X-Mean team. Hickman doing Inferno is the best of both worlds honestly.

As for planet-sized
The colonizing Mars as a planet to put all the Arakki on played out pretty much as I expected, but it was still fun to see.

I will say, Duggan nailed Hickman's voice. I genuinely thought Hickman wrote the issue, with all its wonderful science fiction babble.

Absolutely. I've even seen people congratulate Hickman on the Planet-Sized issue, not even realizing that he didn't write it. Duggan's involvement in DoX and RoX so far will likely make this transition very smooth.

No Magneto, Sinister, Mystique, ---A---- and recycled villains taking away development from the actual X-Men, yes please! :o.
Apocalypse isnt in the books anymore and Mystique has barely been used this generation. Magneto is an actual bonafide X-man and has been for nearly 13 years straight. Sinister has played a big part in giving Kwannon some much needed development

Well, Mystique is about to be used big time in the fall.

Planet-Sized might be the biggest issue of the event, but S.W.O.R.D. #6 is definitely my favorite. So many good moments in there!

Eh. Apocalypse had a meaty role in his limited time in this era. Which is more I can say to the X-Men like Rogue, Iceman, Marvel Girl and Jubilee. I read at least first 17 issues of Marauders, eXcalibur, X-Force before I stopped reading them in May or April. X of Swords was basically an Apocalypse centric event. Will Iceman get a centric event like that?

Magneto will always be first and foremost as a X-villain. When people think of X-Men #1 enemy, they think of Magneto. Its just a matter of time, when another writer reverts his role back to a villain. And if not, he's just going to appear like the head honcho neXt to the Professor.

The development that they are giving to Sinister could have been given to underused X-Man or X-Woman. The big 3 villains of the X-Men basically got a more substantial role than Bishop, Kwannon, Psylocke, Iceman, and I would say even Cyclops. Those villains are appearing as the leads/more superior while the non villainous mutants are getting supporting roles.

And Mystique... she's going to be a villain in the fall? I don't know why would they couldn't give that role to someone else who haven't been part of anything for years or couldn't they introduce someone new.

This era IMO has been more productive for the villains (former or not) compare to the non villanious mutants.

As for Kwannon, I've said this before. I don't like she's using the codename Psylocke rather than her original codename in the 90s. Its also confusing even to a comic reader like me. She's basically a Psylocke 2.0 now and you know how I feel about legacy characters.

Also speaking of non villainous mutants. Moira has been mostly unpresent since Power/House of X ended. Its like Hickman forgot her.

Way of X was a weird one for me. Kind of disappointed it wasn't all following Nightcrawler getting drunk. I do appreciate the slide show of his other appearances at the Gala we have seen. Addressing the first law, among the other issues facing Krakoa, makes sense once I think about it, but it did kind of catch me off guard. Especially with the apparent callous abandonment we see with Stacy X's orphanage. Interesting hint at Lost's background with the Acolytes. Looking forward to seeing more of that. With the solicits out, I do find it interesting that #6 becomes The Onslaught Revelation. I do hope Spurrier gets to continue the book in some form, as I really enjoyed it. Though, I suspect it will have to wait to see how Inferno plays out.

Sword was amazing. At least three great scenes in it that I loved. The start with Cap and Doom was good. It was good to see what the plan for the Mysterium was. Had to find something they could bribe the galactic civilizations with. Doom interrupting the meeting was great. Perfect Doom. Of course, Storm's reply was perfect. And I love this new status quo for her. The best scene was the end, though. Much more quieter than Storm and Doom. It looks like they are finally moving on past that stupid retcon. Much more excited for Trial of Magneto now. Mad props to Schiti for their artwork. Especially with Frenzy, yowza....

I googled X-Men for news, and just found out that Stacy X has appeared in Way of X.

Damn, the 2000s had so many new X-Men that came and went. I always wonder if they gave those characters more time and development in the comiXs. Some of them could have been a bonafide X-Man or X-Woman.

I'm a bit behind the rest of you, but 2 weeks ago I finally read Hox/Pox, and today I read the first 2 Dawn of X books.
Hox/Pox was nothing short of a great read, and most of the issues were absolutely beautiful. Since I'm only 2 issues into the new books I can't really say much about them but so far they have been interesting and entertaining, the only one I'm unsure about at this moment is Excalibur though.

I have to say though, the fact that every mutant that has died in the past or will die in the future, will be brought back from the dead is kinda creepy and doesn't feel right to me.

They do start really tackling that issue and the effect on Krakoan society in Reign of X, mainly in Way of X and New Mutants.

X-men was good. Very happy they seem to be keeping Polaris' X-factor costume, unlike the previous book when she would be inexplicably in a more traditional costume. It was a fun adventure. Teasing some new villains, and one returning villain. Very much looking forward to High Evolutionary returning, and with Trial of Magneto, I do believe a forced retcon is being reretconned. Did love Cyclop's bit of snark about the Trial of Magneto situation.

Hellions was fun. The Hellions giving Empath **** for being a good teammate was great.

Just finished Dawn of X vol 4.So far so good. X-Force, Marauders and New Mutants are the highlights so far, and Excalibur is growing on me. I can see why most people weren't a fan of Fallen Angels. It's not that it's bad, but it's not very good either.

Fallen Angels was a key part of me becoming a fan of Kwannon. She shows up for a bit in Excalibur, and it is great.

I enjoyed Excalibur this week. I really enjoy it when the book is about Otherworld. It hit its stride with the Otherworld stuff. And a fun deep dive retcon at the end. Really looking forward to seeing where that goes.

Way of X is good. I enjoy it using Cortez after he was essentially booted from Sword. Liked the conversation with Legion and Xavier. Laughed how it ended.

I mightve missed it, but have they explained in any of the books why Jean is still wearing that dated af marvel girl costume??

I just finished Dawn of X vol 6 and honestly, I feel pretty indifferent to her after Fallen Angels, the whole series wasn't much to write home about.
New Mutants on the other hand, I did not see that ending coming, and I really enjoyed it.
The X-men title seems like every issue is stand-alone, does it continue like this for long?

Artist preference. In Giant Size Emma, she was wearing her Red costume in 90's colors, but it seems artists seem to want to gravitate towards the Marvel Girl costume for whatever reason.

Yeah, Hickman's run is mainly table setting with the smaller stories.

I am aware I am in the minority in liking Fallen Angels. I've become a big fan of the Betsy/Kwannon split.

I didn't have a lot of expectations for The Last Annihilation the way some people seemed to have, but I actually really, really enjoyed it. Both Cable and Wolverine were also really solid. Some damn good X-books this week!

I loved Sword. Just let Ewing continue to write Storm, please. I loved her scene with Doom, especially with the call back to the first fight between the X-men and Doom. I do wonder when Brand's plotting is going to back fire on her.

Last weeks New Mutants was disturbing. No-girl just possessing Gabby's corpse was uncomfortable. Really good points about how she, at least, should be allowed into the Crucible. I wonder if it has to do with their age?

Yeah, I really liked Ewing's Storm as well. Hickmen and Duggan gave her some decent moments in the current era, but just the one pannel last issue, followed by her appearances this week blows all of that out of the water.

I do wonder when Brand's plotting is going to back fire on her.
When she starts working together with Beast presumably.

The art has been less good during the last two issues, but I still really really like Vita's take on New Mutants.
