Lounge of Justice - Part 90

The Last Jedi and The Last Son of Krypton together. Both are great characters played by two great actors. Both are farm boys, both of them are immortal icons who are ultimately bigger than the actor who plays them. Both of them represent…a new hope.

People have wanted a darker Constantine show since he first showed up on Legends (actually since the NBC Show) and now it is some crime that they are actually going to make it with a different actor? Matt Ryan is fun in the part but he has played the part long enough considering his show got canceled.

I love Legends but Constantine serves no purpose anymore and the more they shoehorn him in the goofier it gets. He makes no sense...

Agreed on JJ though. But I'm biased I mostly hate everything he does ;)

Imma be honest. I feel bad for Matt Ryan, but I didn't care for the Constantine TV show, nor did I ever think they were actually gonna bring him back for this. Like I would've preferred they brought back Derek Mears as Swamp Thing but I've made my peace with that not happening either. I can see why from the new creatives' view there's really no point to connect the new stuff to a pair of shows that both got cancelled after a single season.

This is, ironically, reminding me a lot of the general Cavill and Affleck discourse the fandom's been in now for the past several years.

Also this is a good reminder that Multiverse is just code for "We're recasting Batman and Superman but are keeping Aquaman and Wonder Woman because people seem to like those versions of the character." Because this is essentially the same embargo stuff they've been doing since the days of old, lol.

What annoys me is that WB is removing the character from Legends because they're making an unrelated HBO Max show. Meanwhile we have mutitple Batmen, Supermen and Flashes.

More people care about those characters though. Not enough people care about Constantine no matter how many people at comic stores pretend they do. It's a niche character at best.

Plus, and this is really the key, WB controls HBO Max (well the parent company does) while they split control of CW. They need programming and a dark HBO Series will be bigger for them than a campy CW one. I mean Legends ratings are putrid...the Legends thread here is literally 5 people whining how much it sucks these days. It's days are numbered and Constantine doesn't fit.

Sadly I liked the NBC Show I would prefer HBO Max brought that back but it ain't my money. I assume it is connected to the other shows like Zatanna? (Isn't that being made) If so it makes sense to do it this way.

I don't think that Space Jam 2 died because of COVID its just because no one liked it. I mean it didn't exactly light the world on fire in week 1 BW just underperformed.

I don't think much of this is on the Pandemic I think the movies just aren't worth people wasting time on or if they do they go once and are done.

Taking it away from him? He doesn't own the character they do and again Constantine doesn't fit on the show anymore. They literally did the same thing with Vixen...and technically Zari.

Look I like him too, I don't even mind he doesn't fit on the show but WB is 100% making the right decision whether we like it or not. More people will watch and care about a show on HBO Max than will the CW. It will get more press, will add subs and likely will have a chance at creating way more buzz amongst the average viewer than Legends ever could. Not to mention they can have it be closer to what Hellblazer really is...not the goofy version the CW is forced to deal with because it is the CW. Hell even on NBC they couldn't go as deep as they wanted and now they can. HBO has a better reputation with this stuff and can use their clout to make this into something big.

There is no need to have two versions of the character, especially when Legends likely is done next year. And you aren't going to have him play it on both shows so his days were numbered anyways. This way he can stay on the show. As I said they do this all the time almost since the beginning.

I get it, for a certain segment of people WB is always wrong and every decision is stupid but this makes total sense. Just because it doesn't jibe with what we want doesn't mean otherwise. A show on HBO trumps CW and there is no need for multiple versions running around on TV. I highly doubt Matt Ryan is all upset about it he got more of a run out of the character than anyone thought possible especially after his show got cancelled. How many shows has he appeared on as Constantine? He is the Detective Munch of DCTV.

Meanwhile we're getting 2 unrelated black Superman projects..

Make it make sense

We also got two unrelated white Superman projects. Two unrelated white Joker projects. Two unrelated white Batman projects, though I guess one of them has two white Batmen. Two semi-related white Flash projects.

I think we will all survive the two Black Supermen being separate pieces.

Also the real simple explanation for why they're making multiple Batmen and Supermen but want to focus on one Constantine is that the former are much more popular characters than Constantine.

Speaking of, here's Ben's stunt double on the Flash set.

Yep. Plus barely anyone watches Legends and seems like the people that do watch it don't even like it lol. At least Ryan gets to keep working.

Would you all stop stealing my takes!! :argh::mad::funny::o:o:o:o:o:o:o

I like Legends...it is mindless stupidity and fun. People in the Legends thread hate it though.

If a dark universe starts on HBO Max no one will be whining about Matt Ryan a year from now. Even if doesn't hardly anyone will notice except the "WB Makes All The Wrong Choices Even When They Do What We Ask" crowd.

And who said we couldn't/wouldn't?

If they're okay with all these multiple versions, why not let Matt Ryan continue to play Constantine?
