Wow, so Joker 2 is happening and Scorsese is producing it now.
Joaquin is coming back.
Remember those news last month that said he was only co-writing it. It doesn't say who is the other writer(s?), maybe Silver comes back. I also noticed it only says Writer and Producer, wonder if he will direct again or maybe someone else.Phillips as the sole writer though...
To be honest, Joker seemed to be a good movie about a mentally ill man who happened to be a clown. It didn’t really feel like Joker until maybe the very last scene. Even then, I just cannot see Arthur growing into the force of nature that we know from the comics.
I think that’s the thing. He wasn’t mentally ill prior to the acid bath in Killing Joke. That trauma unlocked a psychosis in that story. But in Joker, he was always ill. It wasn’t just “one bad day” for Arthur. It was an entire “bad life” that he had been dealt. How about the cowardly, insecure and pencil necked husband from the flashback scenes in The Killing Joke? Could you see him evolving into the guy who shoots Barbara Gordon, takes nudie pics of bloodied, battered body and then torments her father with them?

Made me wonder too, but Scorsese has always been respectful when talking about Joker, so maybe he just liked the pitch of the sequel or changed his mind? Idk, tbh. Source is Production Weekly. Hope is true, tho. Maybe he finally watched the movie and liked it.Is this something official ?
Because Scorsese's listing as a producer is quite interesting after his comments about nearly producing the first movie:
“I thought about it a lot over the past four years… and I decided that I didn’t have the time for it.”
[...]
“It was personal reasons why I didn’t get involved. But I know the script very well.”
[...]
“For me, ultimately, I don’t know if I make the next step, which is to this character developing into a comic book character.” [...] “He develops into an abstraction. That doesn’t mean it’s bad art. It could be, but it’s not for me.”

Martin Scorsese explains why he opted out of producing 'Joker,' addresses Marvel comments
I still think there is a good chance this could be tied to The Batman universe. Hopefully they’d handle the crossover better than Venom 2Yeah so think how unhinged he could get then. What little tether he had to reality and goodness was utterly destroyed and then he burned it to the ground and peed on the ashes. Hell the one person in the world who made him really happy he friggin shoots on live TV. This guy could become the stuff of nightmares.
The moment in the stairwell is Arthur's falling in the vat of acid.
Something seems off about all of this though. WB doesn't low key do stuff like this...they would be shouting it from the rooftops. Joker made a billion dollars and had a budget of almost nothing it is one of the greatest successes around and yet no pomp and circumstance and a huge media blitz? (yes I know rumors have been around but still...this is break the internet type stuff) Seems weird for them...
I wonder if they were hoping this wouldn't leak until Fandome...
You just highlighted exactly why the origin in Joker > the origin in TKJ. But I'm glad either tale leaves things open for interpretation.I think that’s the thing. Phoenix, who has been shooting Ari Aster’s “Disappointment Blvd” and was sporting a funny shaved up-top hairdo to play the part, wasn’t evasive open discussing the new film. But when asked point-blank whether the recent “Joker 2” rumors were true, just shrugged. “I dunno.”
Asked if there was any movement on the film to his knowledge or whether they’d ever make a sequel, Phoenix seemed to be very open to a sequel still — as he was at the time of the film’s original release—but appeared to be in the dark on any updates or whether the sequel will actually come to pass. “I mean, I dunno. From when we were shooting, we started to —you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy. There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know.”
I tried to suggest that Phoenix even being open to a Joke sequel — considering how reticent he was to take the role initially and did a song and dance with Todd Philips for almost a year before he finally agreed to the part— was rather huge and indicative of how much he enjoyed the original. “Really, what do you mean?” he asked.
That he was open to this kind of thing (you know, a supervillain movie, as that’s what a sequel would be: no more origin story). “About what?” Well, that you’ve been known to be somewhat reticent to appear in these kinds of things, I countered. “What kind of thing? Interesting character, interesting movie?” he asked with a smile. And with that, we parted ways, but as of right now, Phoenix seems to have no knowledge about what’s happening with any potential “Joker” sequel, unless his poker face is that good.
I could see them officially announcing it at the FanDome
