Fantastic Four General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

The first Eternals trailer left me a little cold but I’m feeling a lot better after this one.

I’m liking the expansive universe the FF will be able to play in.

Now imagine that was Galactus.

I imagine Galactus being so threatening that even the Celestials fear him. If Galactus was an animal, he would be the Apex predator and the Celestials would be akin to goldfish. That will require the entire MCU to team up to defeat him lol.

Now that NWH is confirmed to be a multiverse film it’s only a matter of time before MCU Fantastic Four crosses over with Fan4stic, and they fight both Julian MacMahon’s and Tobey Kebbell’s Doom. :o

Doom can send out Kebbell first as his crash test dummy before going out himself.

The casting of Reed Richards is going to be the most essential casting Marvel has to get right since they cast RDJ in ‘07. Mr. Fantastic is so essential to the Marvel comics universe, and he has to be essential for the MCU going forward with him being traditionally the smartest character in the Marvel world so he’s not just a Marvel scientist he’s the Marvel scientist. This is a guy who makes Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Bruce Banner look like amateurs. To me, he’s my most anticipated comic book movie casting and I can’t wait to see who Marvel ultimately decides to cast for their version of the character.

To me, MCU needs to have the charismatic intelligence of a Neil Degrasse Tyson and ingenuity of a Nikola Tesla. He could be dubbed in the MCU a modern day Edison. I hope Marvel casts the role right.

Feige confirms we’ll be getting films that explore outer space after GOTG 3.

Do you think that Marvel will be going to more non-earth planets after Guardians of the Galaxy 3?

FEIGE: Yes.

Anything you want to tease more than that?

FEIGE: No, but I think it was always something that we were very anxious to do, to be able to tell stories throughout the entire... It is called the universe after all, and I think audiences now are very comfortable going to strange planets with us. So we certainly will continue to do that before Guardians 3 and after Guardians 3.

F4 seems slated to be coming out after GOTG 3 in 2023. I think these comments bodes very well for the new F4 film to be set largely in space. Which I think will be a nice change of pace from the Fox films that always seemed to be stuck mostly on Earth due to budgetary reasons.

were the F4 known for interplanetary travel though? The comics I own show them on earth fighting intergalatic threats that would come to them, not the other way around. I am thinking Feige's comments relate more to Nova and Adam Warlock as well as the Inhumans and Silver Surfer

Great to hear those comments. I’m up for this for F4 too.

You are right, the F4 are generally more earth-based, but they’ve been known to explore different dimensions and worlds before, so it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for them to go galactic. They actually even battled Ego in the comics believe it or not. I think those comments are at least a encouraging sign they won’t be afraid taking the team in more grander and larger than life directions than what we’ve seen before.

They've always been a mix of both. They're like the bridge between crazy space stuff and Earth.
Also, space isn't the only thing they do, they time travel, explore ancient Earth civilizations, different dimensions, they do it all. I hope the MCU FF get to do it all and not just earth or space.

i am all for this. Ancient civilizations time travel sort of Indiana Jones meets Star Trek meets GOTG meets The Avengers meets the Incredibles

Yay or nay?

I like Levi a lot and he and the kid that played Freddy carried the SHAZAM film.

I also think that he could play a Reed very in line with the way MCU protagonists are usually portrayed.

I would also like to give him a chance to play a less MCU-ized Reed in the MCU if possible.

By that I mean... Levi has comedy chops. You know they'll front load Reed with a lot of humor. My druthers would be... Make him witty, sure, but don't follow the mold of going out of character Dude Bro, cliche'd and tired "nerd" tropes or attempting to just create a new Stark type.

If anything Reed should be a bit of an anti-Stark. He should be able to cross swords with the best verbal players in the MCU sure, but it shouldn't be in the wheelhouse of RDJ as Stark or Cumberbatch as Strange.

I think Levi could thread that needle if given the freedom. A good guy with genius intelligence and drive that isn't just an oblivious academic type or a "nerd" with a truly religous view of what scientific exploration can teach us about ourselves and the universe.

Zach L wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’d let him read for it and see how he did.

As for other worlds, I want see the FF exploring, but they need to keep earth involved.

Their heroes and what makes heroes heroes is them risking themselves to save others.

If they’re off on some expedition being threatened by some alien with no risk to the Earth, it’s not a superhero story.

And for the same reason, they need to avoid the mistake Man of Steel and Fant4stic made and n of t be the cause of the alien threat.

Shang-Chi kind of makes me want MCU Sue to incorporate some martial arts in her fighting style. Sue Storm was trained by Iron Fist in the comics, and seeing they’ve made the MCU Shang-Chi essentially Iron Fist with the mystical fantasy Kung fu thing, I wouldn’t mind seeing Shang train Sue and give her a few pointers in martial arts so she can then integrate those lessons into her fighting style when she fights with her powers.

What Upcoming MCU Movies Fit Marvel's New Release Dates? - Den of Geek

Can we really be less than two years from release?

With almost no news, it seems kind of hard to believe, but something is coming out in July 2023. And if not FF, it has to be something with even less news. Plus July would make sense for a tent-pole film like FF.

While Feige used to talk about films five or more years out, he seems to have shifted that strategy and is now much more tight-lipped.

And with Spider-man due in December, they must be down to finishing touches - which shouldn’t require Watt’s full-time attention - leaving him free to perform some FF tasks.

So I’m think the script is probably done. Key roles have been cast and Watts is reviewing production design and getting people started on sets, costumes etc.

… if not, they’re going to have a big problem hitting a 2023 release date. And again, if the FF isn’t coming out in 2023, what the heck is?

I guess we won't get any news until mid 2022 at best...

I got news...there is soon to be upcoming news. Feige will hype up the next movies including the FF. We will hear more about this at D23 at the end of the year.

We should at least get news of writers this year, and don’t forget we’ll likely learn a little more about the film when Jon Watts does press tour for NWH. Assuming the NDA isn’t so tight, I think Watts will be willing to spill some beans for his vision for the film that make headlines. Interest in this movie is obviously very high so every little nugget of information we get from someone like Feige and Watts will be dissected and analyzed to death. We aren’t getting casting announcements this year, but writers and a official release date announcements are likely this year. We might have another Disney’s Investor’s Day this year and Feige is definitely itching to make more MCU announcements. So will definitely get something before this year is over.

I’ve got a dollar that says Spider-man introduces at least one substantial Fantastic Four element.

perhaps a cameo of Johnny Storm in NWH post credit or something

I’m not going to speculate on what it will be because I don’t know what direction they're going to go with FF.

But Watts does, and he already teased them in Far From Home.

I’m sure he’s excited and would like to introduce something and since he knows the FF story he knows what sort of something would fit both films.

And I can’t imagine Fiege holding him back. The primary reason Fiege might say: “No, we can’t do that.” Is he wouldn’t want to do something that might clash with their FF plan.

But Watts doesn’t only know the plan but is responsible for implementing the plan, so he’ll only do something that flows perfectly into his FF film.
