The Official Green Lantern Rumors/Speculation Thread - Part 1

Are you or anyone else enjoying the return of Starman on season two of CW's Stargirl? Or, would you rather see the person who appears to be Sylvester (aka: Starman) as DC comic's Starman Four Will Payton, the dude with the shape-shifting powers? Lastly, should Jenny from CW's Stargirl connect back to the Green Lantern HBO project?

My hope is that the Green Lantern HBO Max series is at a level of quality where it could be connected to the film side.

I’d rather this tv show be connected to the movies and serve as a foundation for a GLC movie with Hal and John

With no news from Fandome, I think it’s safe to say this movie is never happening.

That doesn't mean anything. The series has every major GL outside of the main two. The point is to connect it to a film with Stewart and Hal.

It doesn't quite have every titular GL: Kyle and Jo don't have any current live-action homes. I hope that changes for both.
As far as the movie, it's likely in limbo at this point. The Fandome live-action projects that were features were also much further along in production than either the GL show or possible movie. GL fans are going to have to be patient (I know that seems like all we ever hear) because the pandemic further complicated an already murky future for GL projects.

I posted this in the other thread.
I am curious why everyone loves John Stewart so much, is it because he was the GL in the the animated show? I only read the reboot of Green Lantern that Geoff Johns did back in 2004. Then the relaunch of the Green Lantern Corps all the way up until brightest day. John Stewart had really nothing to do during this run I think he was with the Justice League during all these events. He showed up briefly but the main Earth characters in the Corps were Kyle and Guy. I liked the Sinestro Corps War the best, that would be cool to see on screen. Anyway my point is John was really not part of the Corps stories at that time, don't know if that has changed. Usually a story comes out and showcases a character then everyone loves that person, I haven't seen one with John Stewart, but my GL knowledge is limited to that era I mentioned above.

Ok so it’s true detective in space. Hope it’s good and they get some decent cgi this time

What does that mean exactly? (haven’t seen True Detective :O )

It's a very dark and philosophical detective show.

Thanks for that. How do you think that could apply to Lanterns? Investigating sinister galactic cases?

Yeah like a crime series basically.

hope they find a good director for this too

I have no reason to believe that WB won’t screw this up, like they continue to screw up the property. This story in particular requires more imagination than their Execs are really capable of. I’m hopeful… I’ve wanted a series like this for over a decade.

But truly, there’s nothing saying that WB has it in them to make this story. More likely, it’ll get a poor budget, with actors that don’t well represent the canon, and an enemy that has been totally redesigned. They’ll hint at this incredible Sinestro villain, only to reserve him for the second season…. Which they cancel before it goes to production. Based on history… that’s the most likely outcome… if it gets made at all.

My money is on the Manhunters being the villains. Gunn’s a big fan of Ostranders Suicide Squad and early on in that run there was a mysterious storyline that involved the Manhunters.

I kind of like the theory that Chapter one is a take on Justice League Frontier and the ancient evils the Lanterns are investigating investigating is the Centre (or whatever they replace the Centre with).

That does sound good actually. I started watching true detective a bit the other day and I think I can see what they mean by getting inspiration from it

Yeah, the duo leads investigating a cryptic, almost otherworldly threat that spans decades and cultures and ideologies. I am dying to see who they get in the writing room

I’m wondering how they can make the lanterns light look good this time? Because that weird blurry flubber look they had last time was part of what made the last film flop

Fillion as Gardner baby! Hell yeah! This is ****ing amazing! I hated the casting of Finn Wittrock as Guy, that was ****ing awful! This is great news thank you James Gunn!

So, for Jordan they cast Ryan Reynolds who acts more like d'ckhead Guy Gardner.
And for Guy Gardner they cast Nathan Fillion who looks and acts like Hal Jordan (even played him animated).
Do they know these characters?
Why can't he just play Hal Jordan?
Exactly!

I'm guessing the character will essentially be Jordan, they are just calling him Guy to disassociate from the previous film.

I think he has the right amount of cheesy. I’m keen

I was hoping with Nathan being friends with Gunn he would show up The Green Lantern. I was really hoping for Hal Jordan though. They could do a parallax thing and have Hal be older. I really wanted to see Nathan as Hal, he was perfect for him. At least we still have the animated versions of Nathan as Hal.
