Wonder Woman 1984 General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

WW84 was just a movie version of the Lynda Carter TV show. Patty was given the opportunity to helm a trilogy and do to WW what Nolan did for Batman.
I didn't hate WW84 (I gave it 6/10 - there were certainly things I didn't like), but I agree with both these points. However good the third movie is, it is a missed opportunity for what could - on the strength of the first - have been a truly epic trilogy.

If she makes an awesome third movie I think people will forgive her. Every trilogy has a dud ;)

I am Thrilled.
And, I refuse to pass judgment on this upcoming sequel before they even shot the film.

I am shocked they are keeping Jenkins around for a third movie, WW84 was a colossal flop and utterly terrible. She doesn't really understand the character at all and that was on full display in WW84 when she went unchecked. Really hoping they bring a person or two in to help with the script and produce this thing. Ugh, and the news that they want to continue with some sort of Asteria storyline.. no thank you. I love Carter as much as anyone, but let's progress this story and focus on Wonder Woman herself. Gadot was so badass in the first film and then they barbie dolled her in the sequel. Let's stop with that nonsense.

We are getting more Greek mythology aspects in Shazam 2, with Minotaurs and dragons, wish Wonder Woman movie had those.

Not really shocking. It's the same studio that kept Snyder around for 3 DCEU films. It's just easier for them to keep Patty around and let her finish her trilogy. Gal's WW doesn't really have much of a future moving forward in the DCEU so it doesn't even really matter at this point. That's why I would argue that they just reboot now and don't even bother with the 3rd one.

I dont Love Gadot in the role, I think she works better with other characters hopefully the rumors of Nubia are true though.

I find that rather surprising but happy for those involved and those that enjoyed the film.

Agreed. The film left much to be desired, but for the sake of the cast/crew/fans of the film I'm glad it's doing well. Still hoping they get back to the tone and level of quality of the first movie though.

Let's compare the physical media sales for both films after 3 months of release. US only.

WW (2017)
3,797,931 units sold
$76,204,647

WW84 (2020)
1,364,130 units sold
$33,127,914

Congrats to the cast & crew :whatever:

Let's compare the world in 2017 to 2020

No covid.

Covid.

People had jobs and spent money regularly in 2017.

People are w/out jobs, not spending as money in 2020.

Congrats.

Yeah, WW1984 was released during second wave of Covid-19 with dual release (theatrical and HBO Max), which means basically people had seen it multiple times on HBO Max already.

In addition, physical media (Bluray, DVD) sales even for popular movies is on decline every year.

Marvel did not release any MCU movie in 2020, so comparing WW84's sales to other popular movie like Tenet....(US sales data from numbers.com)

TENET
Total Est. Domestic Video Sales $27 million

Wonder Woman 1984
Total Est. Domestic Video Sales $33 million.

which is not bad ?

Just dropping in to say that despite being disappointed with the movie, Zimmer's score for this is EXCELLENT. Its been in my constant rotation throughout all last year. I would actually put this up there with his TDK and Man of Steel scores.

It’s my favorite superhero score in ages.
