Marvel Films MCU X-Men - Part 4

To be honest, I go back and forth with getting Hugh Jackman back in the fold.

A reality-displaced older version of the character sounds bonkers but works for Wolverine surprisingly enough. It just adds his ongoing ronin saga. And Jackman doesn’t look his age certainly, and can still play the character IMO.

So in the MCU, Wolverine can be Hugh Jackman (Old Man Logan, in a sense) who fights the Hulk and fights alongside Fury & Avengers, etc. And still have room to introduce Laura as X-23, a Wolverine successor.

Do we really need a brand new Wolverine to retread Weapon X, coming the mansion, love triangle with Jean & Scott, etc.? I think many of us are just excited to see Wolverine interact with a wider Marvel universe, so why not Jackman?

Jackman easily has another few movie appearances and/or Disney+ series in him; I think he could be reinvigorated into returning to the character if presented the right story & confidence in filmmakers. And as we know, Feige’s a friend, etc.

But, like I said, a new actor would be fine too.

He's not old lol he looks younger than most guys in their 40s. Jackman today finally looks like Wolvie in EVERY Wolverine comic. He was actually too young looking in the 2000s. He looks just right now. He doesn't have to be "Old Man Logan" in the MCU. He looks like Wolverine straight from the comic.

He absolutely has 10 years and 5-6 movies left in him. Watch Reminiscence. The guy doesn't look old at all. Jackman's like Tom Brady. Old on paper but the best on the field. Nobody can top him right now and won't for a long time.

Hugh Jackman absolutely looks his age.

I can tell you haven't seen Reminiscence.

Pretty good movie from the Westworld crew.

I’m 100% on board with Jackman returning. There’s a ton they can do with the character still. Considering
Kingpin has returned and he apparently is brought to life using some CGI
. Give Jackman the suit, some CGI or camera tricks to make him look shorter, and introduce him in a story with Hulk and that would be enough to set him apart from the Foxverse.

Didn't Hugh said he is done in the role? I'm sure his mind would change about returning. But he isn't immortal and would he want to keep coming back for like a dozen of mcu appearances?. If you want the X-Men and the mCu to last until the 2040s, they would probably need actors who haven't played someone since 2000. Some actors move on and I don't know why you would want someone back for the reboot, who literally said he is done with the role.

It's called coming out of retirement. Ever heard of a guy called Tobey Maguire? Or a guy called Michael Keaton?

I don't think Jackman wants to do it if he can't get back into Wolverine shape. Which, at his age, is getting to be a bigger and bigger issue.

Let the man have his carbs.

I think the suit would be enough. No need to make him shorter.

Just imagine Hulk being hunted by this guy for 2 hours....

Movie would make more money than Black Widow Shang Chi & Eternals combined.

Maquire and Keaton didn't spend almost 20 years playing their iconic characters (often working out like crazy to capture a specific physical look). Nor did they get to have the perfect send-off for those characters. Maybe Jackman would be interested, maybe he wouldn't. Personally, while I can see how it would be fun to see his Wolverine interact with the MCU, I'd still prefer that "Logan" was the last we saw of Jackman in that role.

Those two actors never had a swan song for their reXpective superhero role.

Hugh Jackman's final film as the Wolverine was confirmed before Logan even hit the theaters. You couldn't say the same thing to Tobey and Keaton. There would have been a Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey, if Sam Raimi didn't bail out.

Keaton bailed when he saw where the Batman franchise was headed after Burton was asked not to direct Batman III. Maguire bailed when Raimi was asked not to direct SM4. Jackman bailed when he saw no hope for a FOX/Marvel Studios merger or shared deal. They were all premature exits. Logan wasn't a swan song. It was a way to go out with class in a franchise on borrowed time.

If Feige brings Jackman out of retirement it won't surprise me. When the best man for the job is game, you don't pass up the chance to get him on your team just because he prematurely quit the game due to circumstance. Every Marvel character in the FOX films was headed for a creative dead end. McAvoy and Fassbender foolishly stuck around. Jackman was smart to bail.

What are you talking about? Dude is still ripped. Look at a recent picture of him. He’s a multimillionaire with trainers and personal chefs at his disposal.

That’s not the issue. The only issue is if he’d want to do it. I think he would. He mentioned years ago the thing that would bring him back would be joining the MCU. But we’ll see. I think we’ll definitely see him in the MCU, it’s just a question of if he will remain as the MCU Wolverine or not.

Premature exit? The dude appeared as the character in nine movies in three different trilogies in a span of 17 years.

Jackman bailed? His "Logan" was literally killed off for his character's swan song. You think his writers killed him off without his consent?

It would be different if people hated the death or that the movie was panned, but no it was universally lauded by critics and fans alike.

I tend to think Jackman may make an extended cameo as Wolverine in Doctor Strange MoM anyway.

That type of scenario I have zero issue with it , despite whatever Logan did with his character.

In terms of whether or not he should be the MCU version of Wolverine going forward, I would prefer a new actor who could carry the mantle going forward.

So , I'm for him appearing as his Wolverine in MoM, but I would prefer a new actor play Wolverine for the mainline MCU.

Not fans wanting Hugh Jackman's Wolverine reign to continue under MCU too...

He wanted to stop playing the character because he saw the X-Men franchise under FOX going nowhere. The virtual opposite reason of why Keaton came back to Batman after 30 years. He sees the DCEU going places and the money's good.

The MCU is obviously going places and the money will be really good if Jackman decides to come back.

Jackman has said this publicly. If FOX had made a deal with Disney the way Sony did, Logan would have not happened. Logan happened the way it did at his behest because he saw the character going nowhere under FOX.

So yes, Logan was a premature exit. He wasn't done playing the character. He just got tired of playing him in a dead franchise.

Hot take:

- Wolverine is clearly the best X-Men character and this explains his so called “overexposure”

- no one can do better than Jackman

Sure we could get a good performance from someone as a more comic book oriented Wolverine, but Jackman defined that role much like RDJ, Reeve, and Reynolds did with their respective characters. It’s going to be nearly impossible to acclimate audiences to a new Wolverine if the previous guy is able and willing.

You shouldn't use "nostalgia iron" when you are just rebooting the X-Men. It took years for MCU to feature the actors from the pre-Homecoming movies. Bringing back Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine would only hinder recasting the role eventually for the long run.

Also Hugh is 53. We aren't getting the reboot til X-Men '24 or X-Men '25.

A multiverse Hugh cameo would be great but he isn't the guy now to take the next Wolverine forward for the next 20 years.

Agreed. MoM can be a free for all and is the best time for any past non-MCU Marvel characters to appear or forever hold their peace. After that it's time for new beginnings on all fronts.
