Solo General News/Discussion Thread-Solo: A Star Wars Story. - Part 3

I'm someone who thought Ehrenreich did a commendable job with what he was given, so I don't think that ought to be the primary lesson Kennedy and Lucasfilm should learn from this movie.

Yes. This. The problems with Solo and its production were vast. The lead was not high on that list.

The movies have kind of stalled out. I hope the franchise isn't just relegated to streaming. Obi-Wan should have been a film.

Ehrenreich was OK, but people generally weren't that enthused about his performance.

I watched the movie recently for the first time, and to be honest Ehrenreich didn't feel like he fit the role. He seemed too "white bread" to me, too bland. He didn't have the charisma that the character needed to have.

Doesn't mean iconic roles in the Star Wars universe can't be recast. Doesn't mean another actor other than Harrison Ford can't play Han. But he was miscast, I felt.

I agree. He was OK, but he just didn't have that it-factor to me.

I’m a pretty casual SW fan. I enjoy it a lot and absolutely love the original trilogy.
Rogue One and Solo were my favourites of all the newer films. I thought Solo was a lot of fun and it’s kind of a bummer that they’re throwing Alden under the bus in that article. Maybe not the best choice for the role, but he did just fine with what he was given.
The new trilogy were bigger mess ups than Solo, IMO

Maybe the better lesson to have taken from Solo would be to not shoot a movie twice and trust your filmmakers. Just sayin'

"Solo" was just okay - I liked it but didn't love it. Emilia Clarke's character was good, and I loved seeing Darth Maul again...but Lucasfilm completely miscast the lead. If you're hiring an actor to play a role that's already been established, at least attempt to make it match, in looks and attitude. They didn't get either one right.
