X-Men - Part 8

Of course, Knights of X has the luxury of cherry-picking the best and fading out some of the worst elements from Excalibur, but I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed that first issue. The stakes feel higher and the book has much more of a clear goal. Reminds me of when Vita Ayala took over New Mutants, only it's still Tini Howard in this case.

I finally read some comiX this year, X-Men #6 to #10. And this era is still convoluted as ever. I feel like it is going to take so much effort reading the other titles, only to find things are more convoluted. Ugh over it.

I miss the days when the X-Men comiX are easy to follow.

I'm going to continue reading Inferno this week.

I really loved Knights of X. I was a big fan of the actual adventuring in Otherworld in Excalibur. I do wish Shogo would be left out, but the rest is fine. I do like the concept of there being more people like Meggan, who are part of Otherworld, but also mutants. Nice to bring in Roma's past with the X-men and bring back the Siege Perilous.

Kylun and Shatterstar becoming instant bros is perfect. Also glad to see Meggan getting a bigger part, I hope. Love Rachel's new look.

For me, the best X-Men books are everything published before the 80's reboot.

A small glimpse of New Mutants after the Maddie arc.

Marauders art is still pretty rough. Still sticking with it for the first arc. Sabertooth is very fascinating.

I just found out about AXE.

So its against between theX-Men and the Eternals, with Avengers on it as well haha.

i remember when they pitted the X-Men against the Inhumans and the Avengers not so long ago.

Can't wait for New Mutants to return. Loved what Vita Ayala did with it! Marauders art right now is definitely among the worst in the Krakoan area.

I'm really not looking forward to another "let's pit these teams against each other" story. We had way too much of before Krakoa.

AvX at least was an actual event and had some impact. Even though I though it was s***.

While IvX was actually pretty interesting considering Inhumans was being hyped up as the neXt big thing. The event ended pretty well in terms of writing, and Cyclops was killed at the beginning if I wasn't mistaken.

Now this A.X.E. just feels like another event. I'm not keeping up with X-Men comiXs that much since there are so many right now, but I haven't really heard about this event. Time will tell if would have an effect. Maybe Marvel should have left out Avengers and just let the two species duke it out and call the event as eX.

They had been hyping "what they did to Cyclops" for months. And the actual "inciting incident" was horrible, with how the characters had been talking about it.

I will say this about AXE, is that it seems to come from a decent question, all things considered. Its just I am annoyed about another big event.

the final issue of IvX was good. It started interesting but not great but the final issue was solid.

aXe, just seems random to me rn given how there are bigger stuff happening at Krakoa.

i finished reading Inferno #3 and #4. Then skimmed Knights of X, X-Men Red, Immortal X-Men and yeah....

I'm not feeling this Krakoan era. The only thing I am requiring myself to read is Adjectiveless. But the rest are just convoluted and all over the place for my taste. Too many characters popping in and out instantly. Too many storylines that don't really make sense and is just so damn confusing. And I'm pretty sure they've canceled a bunch of titles to make room for new ones.

Maybe I'd read aXe. But its not as intriguing as IvX and AvX.

I mean, Knight and Red are continuation books, though I don't think Red requires as much prior knowledge.

i don't know what Red is a continuation of, though I have read the issue in which Mars was turned to Arakko (was that Adjectiveless?)

I went to Wikipedia to read the timeline of this era from Powers to Destiny, and a lot of titles ended with less than 10 issues released. Way of X, Fallen Angels, Children of the Atom, X Corps, Sword... like I don't want to read more but if I'm going to read, i want it to last more than 10 issues. so sheesh.

But I have to say I'm surprised Marvel managed to keep this era going this long. Its almost 3 years since Power/House and from the looks of it, it might reach 2023 or 2024, especially they posted another X-Men poll for the neXt Hellfire gala.

I think I'm just missing the X-Men living in a mansion divided in 2 to 3 squads.

Knight is a continuation of Excalibur, and Red is a continuation of SWORD. The authors are a big hint here.

I really don't know what the issue is. I'm not finding the era to be any more interconnected than previous eras. I haven't felt the need to pick up Wolverine, Marauders, and X-force previously. The only exception was for the big crossover event, but that is standard in events.

Honestly, that's actually my favorite thing about this era of X-Books. Having everyone work from Krakoa / Planet Arrako, while the groups themselves occupy different corners of it, and focus on different problems has been a blast IMO. Agree with Sithborg though, the books themselves are still standalone outside of events.

But I have to say I'm surprised Marvel managed to keep this era going this long.
A big part of that is honestly them just trying new things. X-Men has been stuck in a nostalgia feedback loop for ages. There are some really fresh elements and ideas in the Krakoa era, which puts it miles ahead of the last 10 or so years. It's not perfect, but they've created a new status quo that allows them to tell some really different stories. That's what has given Krakoa longevity.

I forgot to post about last weeks batch. It was a very good week.

X-men was fun. Interesting twist with Stasis. I do wonder if that is part of what was going with the Chimeras in Moira's other lives. I can't see Gillen not picking up on this.

Immortal was good, if a tad downgrade from last weeks, but last weeks was soooo good, so a bit understandable. I will miss Selene. And Hope is still kind of blah to me.

Red was great. I love the conflict between Brand and Storm, and Storm laying the beatdown on Vulcan was wonderful. Glad they at least addressed Manifold, even if I am sad to see him leaving the book. He was a great part of SWORD. I wonder who else Brand is going to recruit. I am glad that it seems that she is also playing Orchis as well.

New Mutants was fantastic. The art was great. And I am loving what they are doing with Illyana and Maddie.

Knights of X continues to be miles ahead of Excalibur so far. Seems like they really learned the right lessons!

I've been very critical of these types of crossover events in the past, but I must admit A.X.E. is looking pretty good so far.

Gillen has earned a lot of trust. Still, bad memories of AvX.

Got caught up.

Legion of X: Given the various deities and other gods in the Marvel Universe, I very much support the Arrakko way of handling gods. You want to be an Arakkii god? In the ring *******. I am greatly enjoying the expansion of Arrakkii culture, especially with Red being all about preserving that culture. A much more balanced view than the common tropes of "warrior culture". Those without offensive or destructive "weapons" or mutant powers are not considered totally worthless.

Knights of X: Yeah, I am enjoying the Otherworld adventures. Howard has figured out the book and characters a bit more.

I generally like the new mutants title. I’m positive about Vita’s new characters. But I wish that she’d incorporate more of the recently resurrected new x-men kids, if only as background characters. A lot of them have missed years of development because of getting blown up by Stryker’s bigot parade.

I mean, they are writing a New Mutants book, not New X-men book.

The new mutants title has traditionally showcased younger mutants. I think the new x-men kids that I was referencing more than qualify. If you’ll remember that new x-men was a spin off of new mutants.

I will get around to the big haul of books I have, but I just want to say one thing. The Voices: Pride book, featuring the new trans mutant characters is worth reading. I haven't fully read it yet, but the backstory told in the style of Peanuts, is extremely moving.

This weeks issue of Immortal X-men was one of the single most beautiful romance narratives I've ever read and its left me craving a Mystique/Destiny ongoing title by Gillen

I love her so much already!

I think she'll be a fun addition to the Marvel universe
