Shang-Chi 2 Discussion Thread

I would like to see a sequel. There's plenty to like about Shang Chi and i think there's more to be explore and improved moving forward. More of Xialing please.

No timeline in the article but that seems optimistic to me given it’s almost 2022.
If they can write the sequel from now to the entire 2022, and film it in 2023. Then why not? I eXpect this to be out in mid or late 2024.

The usual 3 years after the first film. The only reason it should be 4 years later is if 2024 is fully booked with other Mcu films.

Nice!

As much as I loved the ending for the first one, I hope that the sequel is just a little more grounded. Maybe something along the lines of the introduction of Wenwu in that ancient battle and the “dance” with Li, and possibly some more non-powered ones like the bus and cage fight. Since Shang-Chi now possesses the Ten Rings, it probably won’t be able to stay away from the fantastical completely, but I hope they don’t go super crazy with all of the action like with him fighting the Dweller in Darkness. It would get old after a while.

On that note, I hope that the action choreography and the filming of it doesn’t suffer due to Brad Allan no longer being with us. I did watch a Corridor Crew video that covered the stunts from Shang Chi, and it seems quite a bit of the action (the bus scene, Wenwu vs Li and the 2nd Shang-Chi vs Wenwu fight) was done by a duo and one other guy, so hopefully they’re able to carry the torch.

Also, Bill Pope needs to come back for cinematography. He was part of the reason why the 1st one looked as good as it did, and it would be disappointing if he wasn’t able to return.

And keep Shang-Chi and Katy friends and develop their growing friendship more.

Good stuff. I enjoyed the film and they can certainly improve moving forward.

Not surprised but good to get confirmation and that DDC is back as well to continue the story, not a clue where they will go after the first one but thats the good part, open to endless possibilities. Cant wait to see what action set pieces they come up with this time.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton said he would love to get Jackie Chan in the sequel.

Chan would make a good Shen Kuei (The Cat). In the comics he is a Hong Kong based spy turned freelance espionage agent who was rival to Shang Chi. Kuei and Shang were almost evenly matched martial artists.

I hope Jackie Chan is in the sequel and gets a chance to be in the MCU. He should've been in the first film. Would also be good to get Donnie Yen. I hope the sequel is more grounded with a full-on martial arts fight at the end instead of all that CGI dragon stuff.

I'd prefer Shang remain on the West Coast for the sequel. He doesn't need to go to New York City.

How well do you think it would have done had there not been Covid?

I do hope they take more inspirations from the comics. Let's get Leiko Wu as a love interest (and Clive Reston and Black Jack Tarr) and have a more globetrotting James Bond feel.

Would that be main villain material or secondary?

So yesterday Marvel filed trademarks for movie titles yesterday. And many of them turned out to be true like Avengers Kang Dynasty and Captain America New World Order. And those are very specific titles that can't be as easily predicted like Secret Wars has been for years now.

That being said, I think we can feel confident that the next Shang Chi movie will be called "Shang Chi and the Wreckage of Time". This should give us a clue as to what the next movie will be about. As the title implies could we be dealing with more time travel shenanigans?

This would be a easy way to bring back dead characters like Shang Chi's parents if they wanted. I know next to nothing about Shang Chi comic storylines but I'm going to assume they're probably doing an original storyline for the next movie. If not do you comic book guys have any idea what this could mean?

If it means they can bring Tony Leung back in some way then great, might feel a bit cheap though after the first film.

IF it does imply time bending shenanigans then it doesnt sound like its going to go to plan though.

I thought Shan chi was awesome more of a kung fu type of movie and the buss fight reminded me of like streets of rage. Do we have any idea when a sequle might come out? I know we didnt get a date or year or anything for comic con. I heard some rumors or something that the director would like to have Jackie Chan in a sequal or something that would be awesome been on a Jacki chan kick lately watching a lot of his movies.
