It's Clobbering Time! The Ben Grimm/ Thing moments we want to see in the MCU

When I think of Ben Grimm I think of a great actor no longer with us, Ernest Borgnine.
In the 1955 film Marty , the guy is pretty close to being what Ben Grimm became.

Then again, my ideal vision of the F4 are all actors from the 1960s , so , my vision for who could be chosen for today's F4 is skewed.

Ernest Borgnine would be a perfect Ben Grimm, I don't think you could find anyone better. I'm cool with Russell Johnson as Reed, don't really like Elizabeth Montgomery as Sue. Who is that you have for Johnny Storm?

Would Russell Johnson be able to build a weapon to stop Galactus out of a coconut? More importantly, would he be able to fix the boat?

The guy I have as Johnny Storm was also a TV and Film actor of the 1950s and 1960s named Tab Hunter.

He fit into the " All American Boy next door" type image of that time.

If you would have told me that we would be picking between those two for The Thing, I wouldn't have believed you. I tend to think Rogen would make a better Thing, but Segel is the better actor IMO, so I'm not sure. And just to throw in some credibility, Segel is also Jewish (at least partly).
this should be an easier pick for me, as I've never really understood the Rogen hype (other then being Jewish and have an unique/rough voice) and Segel is someone I've used in some of my fan casts in the past (but did so knowing it was a very unconventional suggestion) at the same time that's what I liked about it, it's not your traditional stereotypical "fancast" pick (kinda funny to me that it's currently even rumored/ trending right now)

neither of them have the traditional look for Ben... but, I think people focus to much on the human Ben look, which will probably be a pretty small part of the role (few shots in an origin story/ or flashbacks) if anything, I'd probably have to give Segel bonus points just on height alone in those regards
(although, the tough guy/Jock persona I feel is a bit dated, anyway, and they might change that up)

he (Jason) is someone {especially with people "bro shipping" him with Krasinski) would at least be around the same height (if not slightly taller) then Krasinski, for their human scenes together (where Krasinski would over tower Seth)

tho, speaking of which, I can also remember a time when Krasinski's looks were considered too "unconventional" for a superhero/leading man type role, so, people eventually got over that

but I'm getting off track here... so what it comes down to is acting and personality
which again {of the 2, not that they are the only two options) I got to give it to Segel

even better, Segel is practicing his religion according to reports about his personal life

Ernest Borgnine is a very particular look. The closest i could find was Babe Ruth. If marvel are casting based on the look, they might have to do a wide casting call.

I really want the rumor to be true - not because I’m in love with actor X ( I like him, but don’t love him for the part, but that could change to love depending on how he does if it is him ), but I would love to see Ben appear so soon and in such a fun way.

But I’m also highly skeptical of the rumor. I feel like we’ve gotten tied up discussing the actor and haven’t really discussed credibility.

How do people feel regarding how likely it is to actually happen? I’m at maybe 5%..

Does anybody think it’s definitely going to happen, and if so, is that based on anything concrete or just a hope / gut-feeling?

This comment from Tatiana Maslany (that I believe came out yesterday) at least fits:

“She’s in a career that’s male-dominated and incredibly vicious and hierarchal. When she’s heading this superhuman firm, that’s where we get some really fun characters that she’s either defending or in opposition of. It’s like this really absurd take on a legal show.”

Here is my analysis of elements that could make it likely or unlikely:

Likely:

Worded in a way that seems credible - offering details that could have come from somebody working on some CGI or something. Also offers some odd details that would require some creativity if not legit. Not overdone with details that a low-level person likely wouldn’t have known.

All details seem to fit everything that is known.

Unlikely:

Source is highly suspect - anybody could say anything with no vetting.

It seems a little early to introduce the character as described.

It seems unlikely they’d do such a big reveal on a Disney + show (particularly with a character that could steal attention from main character).

Just generally seems too good to be true.

Question: Was it known or presumed prior to the big Reddit rumor that Daredevil would be in She-Hulk?

Because I see that’s confirmed with the latest trailer.

So the Reddit poster had that detail right (though it also could have been already known or guessed).

I wish they would let us know for sure whether or not The Thing is going to be in She Hulk or not. Because if he is, I would be onboard day one. If not, I'll probably take my time with it.

That’s why they won’t tell you. Because he’s not going to be in it, but they want you tuned in.:funny:

On its surface, the leak seems credible to me.

It’s reasonable that a relatively low-level person could have the bits and pieces that were shared, and nothing in the leak (other than the number of episodes which is a mistake a low-level employee could make as easy or easier than someone making up a story) contradicted anything that was known or has since been revealed (such as Daredevil).

In my experience, people who are making things up tend to offer too much detail. They’re writing a story and they flesh it out with lots of detail. And I find myself reading it and calling BS because anyone who would know that much detail would have to be high up the ladder - and someone high up the ladder isn’t going to post on Reddit.

BUT, I’m nearly certain it isn’t true for broader reasons. I just can’t see Marvel dropping something like that in this show.

So I think it’s BS, but a little better BS than I typically see.

You know what might be a cute idea? Ben’s poker night as an after credits scene.

so Ben, Johnny, Peter, T’challa, Jen, maybe one or two other people? That would be cute
Would love to see it. Though Ben would find Peter even more unbearable than Johnny. Jen is definitely there. Out of the Avengers, Scott seems most likely. Depending on if other Netflix characters return, Foggy, Jessica and Luke could all be there.

That's what I really hope to see more of from these shows. Let the world-ending calamities stick to the big screen and let the shows flesh out the daily work and community side of the heroes.

Well, that's where they've screwed up, because if I don't hear he's in it, I won't be tuned in. I do want to watch it eventually on its own merits though, but I won't be in any hurry.

Somebody on Facebook pointed this out from the She Hulk trailer as potentially meaningful:

Probably just a coincidence, but considering the Von D doughnuts in Moon Knight, they know we watch these things closely and talk about details like that.

So it could be intentional. And it could also be intentionally trolling us.

i caught this immediately too but dismissed it as coincidental - I am probably the only person I know that os excited for She Hulk - i think it looks great personally - especially She Hulk <3

No, I’m right there with you. My most anticipated Marvel project since endgame.

I caught that too, but I'm not so sure it's coincidental. The trailer shows different super powered people seeking out She-Hulk's services as a lawyer. So that fits in with the Thing rumor. I just don't see how they explain the Thing existing in the MCU without anyone ever bringing it up before though. Unless She-Hulk is set at a certain time, like after Quantamania maybe (if they introduce the FF there)? That's a pretty old rumor that I haven't heard lately though.

I think it would work fine if, for example, the flight took place a month before She Hulk.

The FF would become instant celebrities, so that would work.

I think the chance of the rumor being true is less than 10%, but that’s at least enough to keep my interest.

So much for that rumour apparently

I’m sure he won’t be, but who’s “Murphey”?

Is he/she a Marvel employee or just an internet BSer?

The easiest “scoop” in the world is to say it won't happen, because it almost certainly won’t.
