X-Men - Part 8

Sabretooth continues to be pretty fun, but X-Men Red really clicked this week as well. Think that's the best issue of that run so far!

So glad to see X-men is the one comic thread around here that still gets regular comments
Fox might've screwed the pooch on the movies, but X is still King of Comics!

Not for a while there. The push for the Nuhumans, and then the Blue/Gold era were not exactly the lines best hours.

Hickman brought them back though, with multiple great books.

Oof yes, don't remind me! I do have fond memories of 2017's Astonishing X-Men, but the fact that this era had a book that was commenting on how the series had been dwindled down to nostalgia and complacency just about says it all. Next week is looking very promising though!

The hilarity that Guggenheim tried to pull a similar move in Gold with Kitty and Colossus as King did with Bat/Cat will forever be downright hilarious to me.

Read up on Eternals before AXE, but finding it hard to get invested in these characters. The fact that Gillen is writing AXE gives me a lot of faith though. Immortal X-Men is the flagship title of DoX as far as I'm concerned.

Well, the Hellfire Gala was a lot less explosive than last years, but a lot of fun little personal things starting to boil up. Gotta say, the new X team wasn't exactly what I expected. Cyke, Jean, and Synch I expected, and Firestar winning the vote made sense. The rest was a surprise.

A bit bummed when I read that Knights of X is only 5 issues, but Howard apparently is getting another book with Betsy? I just wish I understood their strategy. I guess Knights of X is a similar strategy as Sabertooth, as we are getting a new book out of that. I am actually damn curious about Sabertooth and the Exiles.

New Mutants continues to be great. Such a great exploration of Illyana, and it was great to see her Soul Armor again.

Legion of X is great. Yeah, I'm really liking Zsen, and I look forward to her and Kurt hooking up. And I am quite curious how this red god fits in, as Switch is clearly working with Loki.

Immortal continues to be great. Nice spotlight on Emma. Great seeing the self reflection on her past with Firestar.

Wait, I didn't know Knights of X was only 5 issues. That might be why the storytelling was a lot tighter than Excalibur though.

I'm not entirely sure what is going on with editorial. First the Trial of Magneto situation and now this. Howard says she has another book coming, possibly when the new Exiles books wave, and I know Alyssa Wong has a book in the pipeline.

Well, AXE is off. A little bit of a rush of an opening salvo. I do hope Ewing was talked to about this, as there seems to be some major implications about X-men Red going forward. I am just going to assume since Cable was there, Manifold was around to save most of the good characters. Still a tad unsure of how the Avengers fit in, but I guess we will see.

Knights of X felt rushed. But, I'm not sure if it felt rushed because I know it ends next issue or the actual content. And considering the cliffhanger, a rather big plot point was basically ignored. Still, props to Bob Quinn for the key page's art, it was great. And based on the data page, I am quite curious what plans Howard has for Rachel.

Oh good, another crossover later this year. yay....

sigh
I'm getting pretty tired of all the crossover stuff. I don't mind the individual stories, but we're derailing the ongoing books every few issues.

Presumeably, it is a much smaller crossover, only really affecting the X-men book. I get the fun logic of teaming up Maddie and Ben Reilly, I am just warry as they seem to have been trying to redeem Maddie recently.

Legion of X #4: Something hilarious about the whole issue being framed in the back drop of Kurt and Zsen's pillow talk. The god problem went in a different direction than I thought. I am very glad I read this before X-men Red, because it makes a bit scene a bit more... enjoyable.

Immortal X-men #5: Fun inner look at Exodus. Pretty much covers the initial psi attack by the Eternal Uni-mind, which goes to show why that was a bad idea. My main exposure to Exodus back in the day was Fatal Attractions and Bloodties from the 90s. So, it was kind of nice to get a better look at his character. Especially liked how he nearly killed himself before Mesiah Complex. And I am finding the relationship between him and Hope to be surprisingly good. "I have a sweary messiah".

X-men Red #5: Damn. Just, god damn Ewing. Makes me feel a bit better about the destruction we saw in Judgement Day. Still, brutal. I knew Gillen didn't kill off Magneto, but, god damn Ewing. God damn.

Legion of X kinda lost me somewhere along the way. I feel like it varies in quality quite a bit, though I do need to re-read it.

I loved how Immortal X-men and X-Men Red expanded on Judgement Day as well. Makes me a bit more excited for the event going forward.

Legion is a weird book. The various parts of it don't necessarily feel too connected. Still, I like Nightcrawler and Zsen.

I’m going to be honest here DOX hasn’t really excited me as the HOX POX did. While I understand that mutants need to be hated and feared I’m a bit sick of humanity getting the upper hand and Krakoa always being weeks away from falling because someone kept everyone else in the dark. I want the concept of a mutant nation to stick.

In terms of comics I have to be honest by saying New Mutants hasn’t really gripped me and can I ask are Mirage and Wolfsbane a couple? I’m fed up to the back teeth with Magik constantly meeting herself and having this debate on her personality. Her trauma should be dealt with but it seems to be all she’s about from she came back.

X-Men Red is good but my God please, please, please tell me that either Cable or Destiny know about Brand and that they are just playing her for a change.

Immortal is good too but I felt that Emma was focused on too much it was nice to see Exodus take centre stage.

The aftermath of this crossover I think will be good I think.

X-Men is the one I’m enjoying the most and I can’t wait to see the new members in action. I just hope that Firestar decides to be a mutant first and not be a spy for Tony.

Legion of X is trippy fun I like that they are exploring the Astral plane as well as continuing the stuff set up in previous comics.
Don’t read Knights or Excalibur.
X-Men 97 have done X of Swords way better in one issue than that whole overall disappointing crossover in so many.

Well, X-men Red, the meeting with Cable, Thunderbird, and Manifold does highly suggest they are aware of Brand being a problem.

With Immortal X-men, you are going to have to keep in mind that the conceit of the series is that Gillen is going to do a bit of a deep dive on one of the Quiet Council per issue. Sinister, Hope, Destiny, Emma, Exodus, looks to be Shaw is next.

And it looks like Alyssa Wong's X book is revealed, and it is Deadpool. kind of disappointed, as I wanted them to have a team, but I am enjoying Dr. Aphra enough that I will pick it up.

EDIT: Goddamnit Aaron. Someone take the Phoenix away from him. The Summers tree is complicated enough.

Man I gotta get caught up somehow... not a big fan of the current status quo, but what can I say, I'm an x-fan, we never give up

I do not, this is a big part of why this status quo isn't doing it for me. I always preferred the more relatable stories, not the space stuff, not Morrison's weirdness. And this is like taking the cosmic stuff and multiplying it by a factor of Morrison lol

Uh oh, what'd he do now? Giving it to Echo in the first place was some BS. Do I wanna know?

Ayala's New Mutants book is probably the one most for you. Its the smaller, more personal stories. You might like Way of X, as it is a bit of a criticism of Krakoa, and tries to move it forward a bit. And if you like Storm, read Ewing's books.

Apparently making the Phoenix of his Avengers BC into Thor's mother. whether it is host or the Phoenix Force itself, it is just.... sigh. I mean, fine, Odin was horny for Phoenix. Okay. Angela is right there if you want to retcon upon retcon again.

Just want to ask which titles you think will come to an end and or "resurrect" as a new title?

So far, Sabertooth and Knights of X are the only ones we know of so far. Sabertooth ended first, and we haven't seen the promised Exiles book solicited yet. And Howard has said she is getting a new book after Knights ends next issue. Personally, I am hoping that Willaims' X-terminators is good enough to get her more series.

The usual fatigue I have during crossovers is hitting me again, but then they've already announced the next one as well. Gerry Duggan's X-Men was the best book this week. Knights of X ending was oddly rushed and removed some of the things I liked about Otherworld.

I didn't realize Vita Ayala was leaving New Mutants. That really sucks. Loved that run. Glad it isn't fully canceled or rebooted though. Guess we'll find out how Charlie Jane Anders compares.

Legion of X has admittedly kinda lost me.

I guess they are. That's a pity. I really enjoyed their Limbo arc.
