DC TV Series Sandman: The Series

Absolutely fabulous and very chuffed with how it turned out. I wasn’t 100% sure about Tom as Dream but he’s perfect. I did notice a few things were sanitised for television which is a shame because part of the appeal of the comics run was talking about stigmatised people and how they deserved compassion. But other than that, loved it.

I wonder if they would adapt Death’s solo?

Finished with the show. Something is stopping me from outright loving the show still but I do think it was really well done. 24/7 was the best episode for me. Super tense, great acting all around. Dream a Little Dream of Me, A Hope in Hell, and the Sound of Her Wings were also really great but I ended up not loving the adaptation of the Doll’s House. There was a lot to like about the last 4 episodes but I feel like something was missing. I don’t know what though. I think it was maybe the fact that I didn’t like the actors for Rose and Lyta. Considering how great the casting for even all the single episode characters had been prior to this, it was a little disappointing.

I liked Rose fine but Lyta did feel a bit off. I dunno if that was all on them, in general the directing and editing didn't feel quite as assured as the first 6 episodes.

That’s pretty cool; love that they (apparently) will release some bonus episodes to tide fans over.

I finished this last night. I have plenty of nitpicks, but overall I loved it and was very happy with the faithfulness of the adaptation. And please, give me that Johanna spin off. :mrk:

I’m still on ep 8, I have been devouring it so slowly because it’s so good. I am savoring it. It’s seriously perfect.

Same here. I’ve binged a different show’s 3 seasons while taking this one nice and slow.

I watched the Watchmen the same way, there’s a lot to unpack with both series. I still haven’t finished Doom Patrol, it’s a really smart show as well.

Yeah when I binge stuff it’s fun getting so much content in my head so quickly and finding out how seasons end soon after I start, but with shows like this and the ones you mention I find I miss subtleties if I steam through it.

I just saw that that :wow:. Dream of a Thousand Cats looks amazing and exactly the kind of stuff I want from this series. Can’t wait to watch them both later.

A Johanna spinoff and a Lucifer spinoff both please. I need them.

Edit:

Oh. Were they forced to release these episodes sooner than planned because of the leak? I wonder what happened.

The bonus episode was fantastic and once again, super accurate to the comics/story. Loved it.

I really hope we get more "bonus" episodes of stories that may work better in animated form in the future. Maybe they even make the Endless have their more comic book accurate designs with those too. Or at least Dream haha. Either way, this was excellent!

...honestly thought The Sandman would get a christmas special, not a double "extra" episode 2 weeks after it initially dropped.

Sometimes you have to love Netflix. Their "sure, let's do it" attitude can be a shaky business strategy and leads to a lot of questionable content but then also sometimes it's, "sure, we'll throw a cool chunk of change at making 'bonus episodes' out of Calliope and Dream of a Thousand Cats."

I think it's a brilliant move and I can't wait to watch these.

I think it's a good idea, but kind of a missed opportunity. Why release it two weeks from release instead of just releasing in the fall or winter to generate new interest in the show? Like for myself, I literally just finished the season yesterday so the excitement of new episodes is not nearly as high as it would have been if they'd released it as a Halloween or Christmas special.

The content doesn't make sense for Halloween or Christmas.

It's like bonus tracks on an album. They gave it a couple weeks and keep the initial Sandman hype rolling. Gaiman says Netflix wants to see how the show does in its first month before they greenlight a S2. If these bonus episodes can contribute anything towards getting that greenlight, then it's good they released them now.

Their strategy would be perfect if they didn't throw more money at the dreck that has no chance of actually helping their bottom line. The "greenlight everything" ideal is awesome but not if you are going to pay $200 million for a crappy action film and give Adam Sandler a blank check to make movies even his buddies won't watch. (and they are in them!)

And I havent watched Sandman yet (going to re-read it first, been 15 years!) but it is a terrible idea to release bonus content right now. If they havent even decided yet to renew why goose the numbers now? Wait until you make the announcement (in say a month or so) and then say "oh and btw in celebration of that here is more!". This is business 101 stuff.
