The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

Well, WB is clearly behind his sudden urge to seek treatment and apologize, and for alot of fandom, that's all they need hear.

I'm still not gonna see the film given some of the most serious allegations against Ezra, and I still think very little of them.

Sorry, I just don't very much of them.
But we all have our own feelings about them.

That said, if they were going to do a mea culpa , it's much better they do it now as opposed to waiting for the film to be closer to its release .

Doing it now , a year before the film comes out, at least appears less like an obligation to make it easier to promote the film.

Whether there will be more bad news that comes out about Ezra's behavior, and whether they can stay out trouble between now, and a year from now ,remains to be seen.

But no doubt, their apology will satisfy alot of fandom .

I’m glad they finally decided to get help (with some major urging from the studio no doubt).

Also…maybe I’m reading too much into it but this tells me WBD wants to keep this current cast together long term.

I think Warner Bros. at least wants to do everything they can to release this movie since they spent so much money on it, and they want some ROI at least.

This "public apology" feels very insincere. Like when a kid is forced to apologize and recites something half-heartedly before going back fooling around. Plus, the tight timing just makes you feel the urgency for WB to sweep the s**t under the rug...

Ideally, Miller would have gone to treatment and only then talked. But the narrative needs to be corrected as soon as possible because "dollars." This is, once again, a very reactionary move. I totally expect more little secrets to come out and erase this little statement.

So they choose Door 1 on this...interesting.
I guess step 2 is now making sure Miller is laying low until the release, hoping people largely forget the stuff.

The apology sounds forced as hell and doesnt take away that many questions need to be answered.
Even if Miller lays low, there could be tons of things from the past that could still emerge. So yeah, it's going to be interesting. And I don't think there could be any sort of apology that would feel real from a guy that hasn't stopped doing all those awful things and was mocking other people in social media until very recently.

It’s not like they did one or two things in a short period. If that had been the case a quick apology might have seemed more genuine.

Almost certainly, the statement was written by a lawyer or agent. But we might assume that Miller more-or-less endorses it — otherwise, Miller would be quick to repudiate it.

Even assuming that a few months of rehab are effective and (importantly) no new scandals arise, it still doesn’t seem likely that WB would send Miller out to personally promote the movie. Inevitably, interviews would focus on Miller’s past behavior — giving the movie, itself, short shrift. The least bad option might be to have the director and the other cast members do the press tours and offer vague bromides like “Ezra is on the road to recovery…We wish Ezra well… Ezra is great in the film.” Etc., etc.

I'd rather they spent some time wishing Miller's victims well instead.

I wonder if the new reformed Ezra lets Tokata and the other girl take showers and wear makeup now and has given their phones back to them?

This is like Will Smith releasing a public apology the day after the Oscar slap. We all know this was written by a team of publicists and approved by the studio.

Ok… :ebr:

But if we’re talking about how to rehabilitate this movie’s damaged reputation, a press tour focusing on Miller’s victims would do the exact opposite. It’d be a PR disaster. Might as well not promote (or not release) the movie.

Aaaand crisis management for The Flash moves to the next phase.

I'll be blunt, I don't believe the sincerity in the slightest. Not after the massive waves of bad behavior that read as "psychopath" more than "drug addict".

Also, did anyone check to see whether Miller had a sniper zeroed in on them, or perhaps were wearing a bomb collar? *ahem*

There's no question this was a PR statement that Miller "signed off on." I'm just surprised its taken THIS long for something to come out from his team. This should've happened a long time ago.

Miller's done in Hollywood, I just want this movie to come out without any further drama and be judged on its own terms and then we can move forward from it.

If you have ever known someone that is neck deep in drug addiction, they can go full psycho. Cocaine Psychosis is a thing as are other forms of drug psychosis depending on what was used and how...

I am not saying they aren't everything people think they are, just saying one could cause the other.

Look I doubt any of us believe any of this, but this apology isn't for us. It is to change the narrative enough so the media will maybe not print repeated pieces about what is going on. (like THR putting out a timeline, like we somehow forgot) These things are always insincere and formulaic because they are written for a specific purpose for a specific reaction and it is carefully crafted. It won't make people forget, it will just be a jumping off point so hopefully everyone can breathe a bit. In 3-6 months, assuming they really work on things in any way, we will start to get small stories about how they went to rehab and realized bad things were causing them to be self-destructive and then former friends and castmates will speak kindly and wish them the best and then maybe, if things have sufficiently died down WBD will handpick someone to interview them for an "in-depth" story that will pretend to hold their feet to the fire but really be a glorified puff piece. Its sad and cynical but it is proven to work...

Look despite what people on Twitter think, scrapping a film this expensive would be disastrous even if it wasn't following the ridiculously terrible management that put the studio in a bad place. This isn't some $60 million streaming film or indy comedy this was a big budget tentpole summer blockbuster that cost as much as the GDPs of some small nations. It is easy for us to say "cAnCeL IT and eAt the MoNeY!1!1!1!" but we have no skin in the game. What is the correct and easy decision for us has a huge impact on a corporation and we need to remember that.

I guarantee at this point Zazlov and WBD are pretty much where I am...I just want then film to come out and be done with all of this.

If that was the case then WB/Miller wouldn't have bothered with this PR statement.

Oh no no , my friend. EVERYTHING WB is doing to “defend” them right now is solely to save the movie. Trust me, Miller is 100% finished with WB and finished in Hollywood. Theyve probably already officially severed ties but Miller is legally obligated to support the movie and stay out of trouble. WB could actually sue them if their behavior damages the film.

Absolutely. This is about the movie, nothing else.

I dunno, unless the grooming stuff results in criminal charges then I think there’s still a good chance Ezra keeps a career. WB may move on, but I won’t jump to assume they’re done in Hollywood just yet.
