Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: General Discussion & Speculation Thread

Just saw the leaked teaser. Everything looks fine, but I wish we could've gotten a bit more.

Adam looks about as expected, just Poulter painted gold like the Sovereign. I feel like they could've made him stand out a bit more. Have his hair a bit lighter in color or had the area around his eyes be a bit darker or have the eyes themselves a bit more glowy or something.

I'm glad Groot is bigger again, but he still has much of the "cute" baby face look of baby Groot and teen Groot. I hope we finally get an actual big, mature groot at the stage of GotG1 or even older again at some point...

Leaked teaser looked fine. I was disappointed by Vol 2 so cautiously optimistic here. I know they have to address Peter and Gamora’s relationship but hope it isn’t the main focus as we’ve been down that road before.

Loved GOTG2 more than GOTG honestly. This looks to be another tear jerker.

Why does Marvel gotta throw me so many potentially tear jerking movies in a row? Why ya gotta make me sad Marvel :csad:

Knowing James Gunn’s background with and dislike of religion as a kid, and the High Evolutionary, who deems himself a god ands creator, being in this film, I wonder if this film will deal with the disillusionment of someone’s faith in a higher power and the deconstruction and tearing down of the concept of religious institutions and how they control us.

I think after getting more info and some brief looks, my order for hype next year is:

GOTG3
A&W:Q
Blade
The Marvels

I am super stoked for GOTG3 and A&W:Q. Already planning on bringing a box of tissues to this movie lol

I'm very curious how Adam Warlock is going to fact in this without the soul gem .

Adam Warlock also has strong religious themes so I could definitely see this.

I'm guessing the Universal Church of Truth would've been too on the nose :D

I agree with Death of the Author in the sense that the author can't control how other people interpret what he created. That being said, unless it's contradicted by anything in the future, I think Gunn's intent goes a long way.

"James Gunn isn't the creator of Groot"

I mean sure, but does that mean that in the movies Peter isn't Ego's son because Gunn isn't their creator and Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Englehart, Steve Gann and Bob McLeod never intended for the two to be related? Does it mean Nebula isn't Thanos' adopted daughter but someone who claims to be his granddaughter in the movie, because that's how Roger Stern, John Buscema, Jim Starlin and Mike Friedrich thought about it?

I don't get this logic.

Even in the comics Groot's first appearance and his modern version have been retconned into distinct characters. Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers never intended their "Monster from Planet X" to become how Groot is seen now. Keith Giffen intended his Groot to be the same creature as the classic "Monster from Planet X", but Jeff Loveness confirmed they were two distinct beings.

Of course the MCU version is going to be different from the comics, but it's kind of weird to act like Gunn has no say over the movie versions of these characters only because he didn't event their comic equivalents.

No he's not the creator of Groot, but he's the "creator" of this version of Groot, so what he says pretty much goes, unless he's gone and someone else changes their minds.

I recall Gunn saying something about Gamora and Peter's relationship in the commentary for Vol. 2, that they don't have a romantic type of love, and then there they are in a relationship in Infinity War.
