THOR 5

The more I think about it, I don't want another Thor movie. I feel like a 4th solo movie was too generous for Marvel Studios, given that we didn't get an Iron Man 4 and Steve Rogers 4.

I'd rather see
Hercules and Thor fight in Avengers 5
.

Because of Ragnarok and IW’s popularity and how AEG left Thor story it was pretty clear that the character deserved a 4th film. Besides, Thor stories can continue for a long time, just as the character’s own history in the comics.

Not to mention that Cap 4 is also happening and they’ll surely bring back Iron Man at some point in some capacity. The difference here is that Thor is a god and his stories continue far into the future, even when the avengers are all gone…

Time to give us Beta Ray Bill. Also give him the most recent tragic origin story and we simply gotta have the sentient giant space armada turned best friend Scuttlebutt.

Mjolnir is now Thor’s once again and Stormbreaker’s wielder is in flux, what better time to somehow give it to its rightful owner. Maybe BRB helps Thor save earth and because of his worthiness is gifted the axe.

Also gives us one of Thor’s rogue gallery villains, The Midgard Serpent, maybe the Olympians conjure this ancient beast to help take down Thor. Since it’s a Earth based creature it would also serve to raise the stakes for both New Asgard and the planet/population.

The Midgard Serpent would serve as a threat to Earth as Surtur was a threat to Asgard. In order to add more dramatic weight and stakes for Thor and the overall story I would’ve actually have the Midgard Serpent bite Thor’s arm off towards the very end, eventually setting Old King Thor… Give me that and I’ll be very happy. :yay:

I think Thor 5 is still very much in the cards, the bigger question is with whom and what type of story will they choose to tell. There’s still a lot of unexplored great material from Thor’s comicbook history and I would be more than on board with another crack at this franchise and exploration of those great elements.

As much as I like Taika and love Ragnarok, I do feel that TLT was a big missed opportunity and I would be willing to see someone else at the directorial chair tackle the material moving forward. Of course Chris Hemsworth’s Thor needs to be the focus as always and I also would like to see the overall vibe toned down to a more Infinity War-like feel where stuff is taken a bit more serious with a fun component always present of course.

All in all I just hope for more Thor. :yay:

After TLT I don’t want another Thor movie from him.
I like his style and humor, but he should focus on his SW movie and the Time Bandits series for. Apple TV+
Thor 5 needs a different director.

I need to see more of that IW Thor style!

I would love to see Branagh come back for Thor 5 myself. Think he would treat Hercules and hopefully Ares better than Taika would.

What, would Hercules take his place?

I dunno. Hemsworth seems like he's still having a lot of fun playing Thor, so I could see him living on.

Only double posting since a bit of illuminating news came out from this Vanity Fair interview with Hemsworth:

Chris Hemsworth Changed His Life After an Ominous Health Warning

...the star of Thor and Extraction underwent a battery of genetic tests to see what, if anything, the future might have waiting for him, etched into his very DNA. What he discovered, he says in the show, was “my biggest fear.”

His makeup includes two copies of the gene APOE4, one from his mother, the other from his father, which studies have linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease. One in four people carry a single copy of the gene, but only 2 to 3% of the population have both, according to a 2021 study by the National Institutes of Health.

If anything, he talks about the finding as a blessing. Hemsworth can begin taking steps to manage the risk, maintain physical and mental health, and perhaps stave off the development of the disorder for as long as possible. He’s dealing with it a number of ways—gallows humor among them.

Well do you think Thor will survive the Multiverse Saga after Steve/Tony only reached phase 3, while Natasha ended her journey on phase 4.

Some of these older characters have got to go. It would be ironic how the one superhero who has headlined two of the two worst reviewed mcu solo films is getting a 5th solo film... I like Thor the most out of the big 4. But 5 Thor films? Too generous of Marvel Studios imo.

After reading the news, I'd say give Chris Hemsworth one final swan song movie for his Thor (before he is retiring from acting for good).
The character deserves some conclusion arc the same way as Cap and Iron Man had.

But this time, make it as epic and emotional as possible. No more too heavily lean into comedy.
Get rid of Korg and bring Thor back to his roots and seriousness like Thor 1 and Infinity War.
Take a note from God of War of how to do a proper and epic Norse mythology.

Unless they replace Taika as director, you'll probably get more of the comedic Thor and less of the more serious style we got under Kenneth Branagh or the Russos. Not to say that Taika couldn't do a completely serious Thor film.

But that just doesn't seem his style, especially with how attached he is to Thor in his present state.

With the recent interview of Chris Hemsworth praising George Miller‘s approach to filmmaking while working on Furiosa, I am wondering if George Miller wouldn’t make a great director for the next Thor film. You’d still get some of the wacky tone, weirdness and over-the-top of the previous two films, but the gravity and drama of the first two Thor films, not to mention less green screen. Also, he’s an Aussie like Chris, and I think both of their sensibilities would jive very well with each other.

The question is whether he would want to do it or not, and I’m not sure that he would, but it’s nice to dream.

Chris Hemsworth Says a Thor 5 Needs a Drastically Different Tone
"I’ve said this before but when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk in getting lazy then because I know what I’m doing," he said. "I don’t know if I’m even invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity… [laughs] Thor lost his mind that last one. He’s got to figure it out now."

First two = sci fi fantasy rom com

3 and 4 were Flash Gordon sci fi comedies

Maybe we can get dark fantasy for the next two?

I agree that the franchise needs to be reinvented once again. Thor 5 needs to be something different and I would welcome a change in the directorial chair as well. The best moments of Thor in the MCU is when the lighthearted personality wraps the real tragedy of the character. I would do a course correction in the franchise by tapping into something that has been hinted at many times before in the character's MCU journey.

In order to somewhat reset the franchise my pitch would be to explore "Thor's Warrior Madness", a concept of Thor's comicbook mythology which taps into the fact that Thor's thirst for battle, if not kept in check, can lead to destructive consequences for him and everyone around him. Thor's tragic past can easily be used as a catalyst to a different and unexpected turn of events, where everyone's hero suddenly becomes the worst version of himself. Something fresh and new that would likely appeal to fans and general audiences alike.

I would probably say that a character like Enchantress(asgardian "witch") would fit well in this story as the manipulative force/"brain" behind the scenes while i would pick the Midgard Serpent("Earth based" monster) as the force of nature/"muscle" to increase the stakes for Thor and everyone else.

Besides seeing 2 of the classic Thor villains, specially the Midgard Serpent(which would be a sight to behold) on the big screen, we would also see a no holds barred, almost evil version of Thor wrecking havoc and destroying friends and foes in his path. Instances in the comics where Thor was in a warrior madness/beserker rage, when he decided to rule Earth, or when he destroyed his own companions in battle are great moments that could be used to convey a very different, more serious and ruthless side of Thor.

I would love to see Thor lose his arm (maybe as a consequence of a hard fought battle against a legendary foe as the Midgard Serpent) and get his Uru arm, which would not only drastically change Thor's look but also give stakes to the film itself. Also as a perfect way of finishing it off, just end the film with an old weathered badass version of Thor aka Old King Thor with eyepatch and Uru arm sitting on the asgardian throne.

I think hardcore fans and fans in general would absolutely love this.
Then its just a question of building a worthwhile narrative around it for the general audience. Thor's comicbook history is so rich and has a ton of great material to pull from.

Chris Hemsworth displays his bulging biceps and ripped physique

Looks to me like CH is back on the Thor shape. The only project he had going before was the Furiosa thing with George Miller but that wrapped filming a while back, also CH’s role in that didn’t look nowhere near as physically demanding to get into this sort of shape. It’s also worth pointing out that CH isn’t always in this type of shape in his daily life because it’s very hard to maintain such a form, so that fuels my speculation that it might very well be for an upcoming MCU project, question is which one could it be…

Could be for Ant-Man 3 because of the Kang connection but that is so far along that it’s somewhat unlikely. The other more logical choice would be something for GOTG 3.
