Shang-Chi 2 Discussion Thread

I thought Shan chi was awesome more of a kung fu type of movie and the buss fight reminded me of like streets of rage. Do we have any idea when a sequle might come out? I know we didnt get a date or year or anything for comic con. I heard some rumors or something that the director would like to have Jackie Chan in a sequal or something that would be awesome been on a Jacki chan kick lately watching a lot of his movies.

Nothing confirmed yet but speculation is one of the unamed projects of phase 6, late 2024/early 2025 being the guess at the moment.

How well do you think it would have done had there not been Covid?

Not sure but I think 432 million for a character no one really knew about before the movie is still not bad. I think box-office started to get back to normal like a month later. If it had been out a little later maybe that 432 would have been 500?

Yeah I think more 2025 ones are "unknown" being further away, only a couple in 2024 but it might turn out Shang-Chi 2 is one of those, guess it jut depends on schedules/having the story ready etc to begin filming in time for it. The fact we might have a title already is good sign that things are formulating at least for the sequel.

Based on the current openings on the schedule, Marvel has spots in February 2025 and July 2025 reserved. I'm not sure I see many other opportunities to squeeze in another film, especially since Disney also has Avatar 3 opening December 2024. Phase 6 may only end up being 5-6 films with another 6 of the projects being Disney+ shows.

With Cretton getting Avengers: Kang Dynasty, I wonder what happens with Shang-Chi 2 now. Either it's not getting a Phase 6 release or it'll have a new director.

I can see it coming out in 2027 with Cretton in the director's chair. That's 6 years between the first and the second film, not out of the realm of possibility. Multiverse of Madness came out 5.5 years after the first, L&T came out 4.5 years after Ragnarok, Quantumania and The Marvels will also come out 4 years after their previous movies.

Perhaps it will be more of a wait for the sequel but then it also depends on what they plan for the characters as well as the director, might be that they are all too busy with the Avengers, so we may see them plenty before another solo effort, the gaps between them seem to be 4/5 years or so these days anyway, its a shame but the price of success I guess is, is your in demand a lot more.

I'm personally not a fan of this idea, but I'm guessing Shang Chi will face off against a Kang variant in his next movie. I only say that because of the leak says his next film will be called "Shang Chi and the Wreckage of Time". If there is time travel shenanigans they I guess Tony Leung can come back and they can explore how he got the rings in the first place.

I think if they show off two or more different Avengers face off against and Kang and kill him before Kang Dynasty, it'll really show how much of a threat Kang is. Even when you think you've killed him, another one comes back to take its place.

Although I must admit I would prefer they go in a different direction. But this is just my random guess for now based on that leak.

I guess it depends on if they want to bring Netflix Iron Fist into the MCU. It's not outta the realm of possibility to me considering they brought back Anson Mount.

Well is Marvel going to wait 5 years for a sequel though (2026). They could but damn.

And given that Hulk and Carol approached him in his movie, yes. He would have a key role at least in one of 2 Avengers films.

For sure there has to be a sequel but it def seems like 2025/26 might be the arrival of it although it might need to be released prior to Secret Wars and Kang Dynasty so audiences don't forget about him.

I don't mind Finn Jones that much.

I hope they bring him back for consistency. I don't want cherry picking which actors from the previous Marvel shows will return, unless the actor said no.

I do want a different actress for Elektra, Dagger and Nico though.

This is why the MCU isn’t what it used to be. It’s introduced so many characters that there’s too long a time between getting sequels to movies that were actually good. Unlike comics, actors do actually age. I doubt we will ever get a real sequel. We will be lucky if even see Moon Knight again.

Interesting that it was supposed to come after. Wonder if the delay to 2026 changes that. The sequel wait time is pretty long, but it's been okay mostly cause we see these characters usually somewhere. Hope Shang-Chi pops up soon.

Moon Knight season 2 I think it going to happen. It just may be a 2025/2026 release.
