Picard Star Trek: Picard - General Discussion Thread

Unless you are one of the "Star Trek is too woke" crowd, sorry, not referring to you. Besides, I'm destined to like things you hate.

Found the 13 Monkeys alum that was teased. I'm feeling like I should recognize that young man from somewhere, but I'm drawing a blank.

I did laugh at them turning the bridge whistle into an actual whistle.
I would hope we would both know I'm not one of those. :funny:

My issues with the trailer is that it seems to be more and more of what I don't like about this show. The dark cinematography... A personal tale of vengeance. Not remotely a revival of the feel or type of storytelling that I adore from TNG and instead more of the same missteps made since the TNG movies in an attempt to sexy things up for the general audience.

Now the physical whistle, to be fair, I think Meyer already did that in TWOK and TUC. So there is precedence.

It's still inconceivable to me that my wife and I aren't devoted viewers of this show, but at least, we have SNW and Lower Decks.

That's fair.

The lighting reminds me a lot of the TNG movies, so I guess it doesn't inherently bother me. I'm not entirely convinced the season will be as tonally dark as what the trailers indicate. Season 2 wasn't quite as dark as what it implied.

Still damn curious what they mean by a DS9 continuation.

It also doesn't help that Moore and Braga already nailed the old man Picard gets the old team back together again for one last adventure story in All Good Things, providing this crew a perfect sendoff. I mean there is a reason why Feige had admitted to stealing liberally from All Good Things for Avengers: Endgame.

The TNG movie lighting comparison is fair, but this is even darker. I liked the "sexier" look as a kid, but as an adult I am much more fond of the brighter 80s NASA Futurism look of the TNG shows, TV lighting budget aside.

I'm really sad to hear they are billing this as a DS9 continuation. I don't have much faith in this team to do that show or its legacy much justice. I would rather they leave it in peace and let LD handle the DS9 references.

Clearly it isn't the main part of the show, but they keep teasing some little bit of DS9 is part of the season. We will see. At worse, it could be like the new Star Trek comic that is smashing together all parts of the shows. Seriously, the comic has Sisko, Data, Crusher, Jake Sisko, Tom Paris, and Scotty.

The Captain of the Titan A seems to be more a fan of the TNG Films than the Show with all his descriptions of Picard and Riker’s adventures.

Thomas Riker?! Riker half way through the trailer giving me weird vibes… 362A8E75-9673-4221-BA1A-1526E2B7E443.jpeg

RMB was on Critical Drinker After Hours praising season 3 for about 16 minutes.

All the early praise for Season 3 has me more excited, especially from those who disliked the first two seasons.

I like hearing that this season is kind of its own thing. Season 1 and 2 both started off strong, but fell off a cliff by the end of it. Especially Season 2. So, fingers crossed they finally nail it.

I am liking the look of Geordi and Worf, the white hair suits them. Don't know much about their characters other than trailer stuff, so just have to wait and see. Geordi's eyes look cool, still would like to see an updated visor though. Maybe they could show his room with some old visors he used over the years, just for some reference. I just want to see some different styles hanging around even though he no longer wears them.

Michael Rosenbaum interviews Jonathan Frakes (Riker) it's an insightful podcast episode that Jonathan bares all and he is upfront and bluntly honest (fair warning: course language in the full interview)

What I assume the opening credits will be. Still not a good Trek opening, in terms of showing the ship, but a step up from the previous two seasons, with the LCARS and easter eggs.

And god, the FC theme always gets me.

Ship lore nerds, have at it.

I never saw the series beyond the pilot that when it was on youtube but been watching it now hoping to have em all watched before the rest of season 3 is all up for streaming

You don't really need to have watched the first two seasons to enjoy this season. It's almost a reboot anyway.

Watching season 1&2 of Picard will give you context for the characters, but it might also ruin your enjoyment. That mostly depends on how you feel about what happens in those 2 seasons. There are a few things that were not thought out too well and effect the characters.

well finished all of season 2 just started watching new season. I loved the reference to voyage home where the doctor asked Rios if he was from space and that he said he was from Chile he only worked in space lol.

well now I am up to speed that season opener was good, love the Titan such a great looking ship. cannot wait to see Worf and Laforge show up later on.

I called who Ed Speleer's character was like a month ago when he was featured on the poster along with the legacy cast.

I thought Season 1 was weak; Season 2 much improved; Season 3 opening episode however was very enjoyable and much of that is down to having some of the TNG cast back in action - obviously with more to come. Their synergy is what made TNG the show it was, and what I feel has been lacking from Picard so far - compounded by Patrick Stewart being undeniably older and lacking that energy his character had years ago. Try as they might, the comraderie between Picard and Jurati/Rafi/etc in the previous seasons felt much more forced and less natural than the TNG chemistry

We shall see how good a doctor Beverly is, if she notices that Picard is in a robot body now. I still don't know how they plan on explaining that part this season. Geordi or even Lore should also have something they notice is a little off about Picard now. What exactly do you call Picard now, a synth, an android, a robot, a golem like they said in the show? In TOS there is an episode called What Little Girls are Made Of.
Dr.Koby finally realizes he isn't human anymore

From what it sounds like they’re basically just ignoring the first two seasons other than cherry picking a few things and characters. So it’ll either won’t be addressed or just a throwaway line.

Probably for the best lol

Unfortunately the whole Picard series is canon
